Programa del tour

Día 1

Viajar a Sudamérica

Flight across the Atlantic and Caribbean to the Peruvian capital Lima. South America awaits us!
As an introduction to this fascinating continent, we get to know historic and modern Lima. The colonial heart of the city beats around the Plaza de Armas with its cathedral and the archiepiscopal palace. In the modern Miraflores district, we find embassies, shopping centers, hotels and restaurants. At the Miraflores market, we meet some traders and get to know their daily lives and products. During an optional visit to the Larco Herrera Museum, you will learn lots of interesting facts about Peru's pre-Inca cultures. In the evening, we recommend an optional visit to the Parque de la Reserva ─ the illuminated water fountains create a spectacular play of colors and lights. This includes a visit to the neighboring street food market, where the tour guide accompanies us to a typical street restaurant and we can try a local specialty. (F)
We fly up into the Andes and immediately drive on to the lower Urubamba Valley after arriving in Cuzco. On the way, we stop at the Sunday market in Chinchero, the meeting place for the rural population from near and far. The market sells textiles, jewelry, fruit and vegetables and you can browse to your heart's content. Afterwards, we visit a weaver's family who will demonstrate how the llamas' wool is made into elaborate items of clothing. 80 km (F)
We drive to Ollantaytambo and visit the Inca fortress. The village itself has remained virtually unchanged since the Inca period. At the train station in Ollantaytambo, we board the panoramic coach that takes us to Aguas Calientes. The tracks of the train line are built into the spectacular and increasingly narrow Urubamba Valley. From Aguas Calientes, a bus takes us up the mountain to the legendary Inca fortress of Machu Picchu: one of the highlights of any trip to South America. We see the rock on which "the sun is tied", the Temple of the Condor and enjoy the mystical atmosphere of this unique site. The return journey is by train. 120 km (F)
The Urubamba Valley between Ollantaytambo and Pisac was the "Sacred Valley" for the Incas. We see Inca towns whose appearance has hardly changed since the heyday of the empire. First we visit the market and the fortress of Pisac. Our journey continues to Cuzco. The Sacsayhuamán fortress with its walls of gigantic boulders towers over the ancient Inca capital. (F)
Today we take it a little easier and stroll through the alleyways of Cuzco to the central Plaza de Armas. We visit the cathedral, see some curious examples of the Cuzco school of painting and go in search of the dodecagonal stone. In the afternoon we have time for our own discoveries. Optionally, you have the opportunity to take part in an excursion to Maras and Moray. Maras is a small town about 40 kilometers from Cuzco. The salt mines close to the town are the main attraction here. In Moray, the circular terraces that form the famous sunken amphitheater are impressive. Experts suspect that this was an Inca agricultural experimental station. (F)
We leave Cuzco and set off on a varied journey through the Andes to Puno on Lake Titicaca. On the way, we visit the Viracocha temple and Raqchi and marvel at the village church in Andahuaylillas, a jewel of baroque church architecture in the Andes. At the La Raya Pass, we reach the highest point of the trip at over 4,300 meters. The landscape then changes noticeably as we reach the Peruvian Altiplano with its herds of llamas and alpacas. We reach Puno in the evening and check into our hotel on Lake Titicaca. 390 km (F)
A morning boat trip brings us closer to the culture of the Uros, who live on their floating islands in the lake. The journey then continues along Lake Titicaca to Bolivia. Just before La Paz is the important archaeological site of Tiahuanaco with the famous Sun Gate. 260 km (F)
A fascinating metropolis awaits us. We discover places with a special flair, the exciting witches' market and explore the unique landscape in the Moon Valley just outside the city. (F)
Flight via Santa Cruz to Buenos Aires, a dream destination on the Rio de la Plata, the cradle of tango and a city with an irresistible mixture of Latin American temperament and Mediterranean charm. In the evening, we recommend a visit to a tango show in the San Telmo district. (F)
The most important sights in the Argentinian capital include the Plaza de Mayo with the Presidential Palace and the former port district of La Boca with its colorful houses. You will then have time to discover this lively metropolis for yourself. (F)
We fly to the tropical north of the country to Puerto Iguazú. On the Argentinian side, we get close to the famous waterfalls on footbridges. We continue across the border to Brazil, the fourth country on our South America trip. (F)
The Brazilian side of the Iguassu Falls is also well worth a visit! A remarkable change of perspective. Later, we fly on to the cosmopolitan city on the Sugar Loaf Mountain: Rio de Janeiro. (F)
A visit to Rio naturally includes a ride on the cable car to the city's landmark, the Sugar Loaf Mountain. During a city tour, we get to know other aspects of the "Cidade maravilhosa", the wonderful city. In the evening, there is an optional visit to one of the most famous folklore and samba shows. (F)
This morning you have the opportunity to take part in an optional excursion to the famous statue of Christ on the Corcovado. We will meet back at the hotel at lunchtime to share our experiences over a farewell dinner. Transfer to the airport and flight home. (F, M)
Arrival at your departure airport and individual journey home. Flight schedule, hotel and program are expressly subject to change. (F=breakfast, M=lunch)
