Día 1

Salónica - Kalambaka

Individual arrival. From Thessaloniki, the journey leads to Kalambaka with the Meteora monasteries. Kalambaka is particularly famous for its spectacular rock towers, which can reach a height of several hundred meters. For tourists from all over the world, Kalambaka is of course the ideal starting point for a visit to the world-famous Meteora monasteries, which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are 24 monasteries in total, but they are no longer all accessible. The first hermitages in Meteora date back to the 11th century. Don't miss a visit to the Metamorphosis Monastery, which is located at an incomparable height of around 610 meters on a huge rock. One night in Kalambaka. Approx. 215 km/driving time approx. 3 hours.
After breakfast, drive towards Athens. The capital of Greece is world-famous for its numerous ancient treasures. The National Archaeological Museum, which is dedicated to Greek antiquity, and the Olympic Stadium, where the 2004 Summer Olympics were held, are well worth a visit. Discover the charming old town of Plaka with its narrow, cobbled streets and original boutiques. Stop off at one of the many street cafés and tavernas and enjoy the typical Greek flair with a wonderfully refreshing frappé. Of course, don't miss the city's most famous building, the Acropolis of Athens with the famous Parthenon Temple (UNESCO World Heritage Site). You can also view the treasures of the Acropolis in the Acropolis Museum, which was opened in 2009 with its modern architecture. Here, for example, the entire magnificent temple frieze of the Parthenon is reproduced. One night in Athens. Approx. 340 km/driving time approx. 3.5 hours (breakfast).
After breakfast, drive to the Peloponnese via the Corinth Canal to Argos and Tolo. Make a stop at the Corinth Canal, which was opened in 1893 and is 6.3 kilometers long with a width of 24 meters. As the passage is only suitable for smaller ships, the canal is rarely used today. Nevertheless, the view into the approx. 75 meter deep gorge of the canal from one of the 5 bridges is very impressive. One night in Tolo, the pleasant tourist center of the region. Approx. 180 km/driving time approx. 2.5 hours (breakfast).
Today you can look forward to world-famous sites of Greek antiquity! After breakfast, you will start with a visit to the ancient open-air theater in Epidaurus, one of the most famous archaeological sites in Greece. It is still known today for its outstanding acoustics. Your journey continues to Mycenae with the main gate of the ancient city, the Lion Gate. The most magnificent of the royal tombs preserved in Mycenae is the tomb of Agamemnon. It was built around 1250 BC. You leave Mycenae to travel on to Olympia. Located in the north-west of the Peloponnese, this is the former venue of the Olympic Games. The archaeological site has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1989. For more than 1,000 years from 776 BC, competitions were held here every four years in honor of the god Zeus. Probably the most impressive building in Olympia is the great Temple of Zeus. It is said to have housed a statue of the god Zeus, which was one of the Seven Wonders of the World. For the duration of the battles, a sacred truce prevailed in the entire region. After these incomparable impressions, you will spend the night in Olympia. Approx. 305 km/driving time approx. 3 hours (breakfast).
After breakfast, your journey takes you via Pyrgos to Patras, Rion and over the bridge to Antirion to your destination for the day, Delphi. Delphi was very important in ancient times. It was here that the famous Oracle of Delphi predicted the future of the respective Greek rulers. The oracle was also consulted before important decisions were made, with a priestess serving as a medium. Today, this site is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The site's sights include the Sanctuary of Apollo with its temple in the center, the round Tholos Temple with its Doric columns and the Archaeological Museum. The bronze statue of the charioteer is particularly worth seeing here, as it is one of the best-preserved original statues of Greek antiquity. The view of the excavations and the surrounding atmospheric panorama from the "Holy Street" as you climb up to the Temple of Apollo is wonderful. One night in Delphi. Approx. 220 km/travel time approx. 3 hours (breakfast).
After breakfast, drive via Amfissa to Thessaloniki, the second largest city in Greece. Numerous sights await your visit in the lively metropolis, e.g. the White Tower from the 15th and 16th centuries, the imposing rotunda from the Roman period (UNESCO World Heritage Site), the church of Panagia Achiropitos and the citadel with the Acropolis. 2 nights in Thessaloniki. Approx. 410 km/driving time approx. 5 hours (breakfast).
Go on an individual voyage of discovery and get to know the beauties of Thessaloniki. For example, stroll along the spacious boulevards by the sea, take a stroll along the lively shopping streets or discover the delicious culinary offerings in one of the numerous coffee houses or a beautifully decorated, typical Greek taverna. You will find that time flies by! (Breakfast).
Individual departure or extension in Thessaloniki or Halkidiki with its beautiful beaches. (breakfast).
