Viajar a Apulia

After your flight or train journey to Bari, the transfer bus will take you to your hotel in Italy's beautiful south. After a small welcome cocktail with the tour guide, the first typical Apulian dinner awaits us there if you are arriving by flight. For those arriving by train, dinner is not included on the day of arrival due to the late arrival. 60 km (A)
At the beginning of the trip, we visit the old town of Alberobello. Here in the Zona Monumentale we see hundreds of the region's typical whitewashed round buildings with conical roofs, the so-called trulli. The entire trulli district is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to stroll through the town of Alberobello. Perhaps take a look inside one or two of the trulli that have been converted into stores or restaurants before returning to the hotel in the afternoon. 40 km (F, A)
Today is at your leisure. For an even more authentic Apulian experience, we recommend taking part in our optional excursion to Ostuni and Monopoli. First, we visit the "white city" of Ostuni with its oriental-looking terraced houses. We take a leisurely stroll through the winding alleyways of the old town and see the cathedral, the bishop's palace and the column of Sant'Oronzo, dedicated to Ostuni's patron saint. For lunch today, we invite you to taste the culinary specialties of Apulia. In the afternoon, we stroll through Monopoli, a charming medieval town with Greek origins directly on the Adriatic coast. If you do not take part in the excursion, you will have the opportunity to relax at the hotel today. 110 km (F, A)
Lecce is known as the pearl of Apulian Baroque: The striking buildings and the undisputed beauty of its churches make the city the Florence of the south. We visit Piazza Oronzo, which forms the heart of the city, and see the remains of the Roman amphitheater. We then stop at the Palazzo dei Celestini. Beautiful examples of Lecce's Baroque style are the church of Santa Croce and the cathedral. Of course, you will also have time to shop in the numerous stores in the town. The journey continues south to Otranto with its famous cathedral, whose unmistakable mosaic floor will delight us. 300 km (F, A)
We invite you to an olive oil tasting not far from Cisternino. With over fifty million olive trees, Apulia is the most important olive-growing region in Italy. This exceptional product owes its incomparable taste to the special production standards to which Apulian olive oil is subject. Let us spoil ourselves with culinary delights! We then drive via Locorotondo, where we make a short stop, to the Castellana Caves. This remarkable system of underground karst caves was discovered in 1938 by the speleologist Franco Anelli and is one of the largest stalactite caves in Europe. Let's admire the underground caves and recesses with their impressive stalactites and stalagmites. We then drive back to the hotel. 80 km (F, A)
Today, the beautiful town of Trani is on the program. This charming little town lies on an almost closed harbor bay and impresses above all with its magnificent Cathedral of San Nicola Pellegrino, the church between the sky and the sea. The Castel del Monte, the so-called "crown of Apulia", then awaits us. Even from afar, we can see the enigmatic building majestically enthroned in the landscape. The castle is the most famous monument from the era of the Hohenstaufen Emperor Frederick II and impresses with its octagonal layout. We then reach Bari ─ capital of the Apulia region. We take a leisurely stroll through the medieval old town and visit the famous Basilica of San Nicola, the burial place of St. Nicholas and a magnificent example of Apulia's Romanesque architecture. 275 km (F, A)
We recommend that you take part in our optional excursion on this day. This will take you to Matera. The capital of eastern Basilicata is picturesquely situated on the rocks above a deep gorge of the Gravina torrent. In addition to fantastic views, this place is famous for its extraordinary "Sassi di Matera". These cave dwellings have existed since prehistoric times, were used as primitive dwellings until the 1950s and have been on UNESCO's list of cultural assets worthy of protection since 1993. Let the maze of walls, stairs, gables and narrow alleyways take you back to a bygone era. Or would you like to use the day to relax in the hotel's beautiful garden or by the swimming pool? 165 km (F, A)
It's hard to say goodbye to the Apulian way of life today. On the way to the airport or train station in Bari, take a last look at the landscape you have grown fond of before you start your journey home. If you have opted for a connecting vacation, we wish you lots of fun. (F) We expressly reserve the right to make changes to the timetable, flight schedule, hotel and program. (F=breakfast, A=dinner)
