Buna Treks & Expeditions welcomes travelers to join in our classic journey trekking to old Kingdom of Upper Mustang, where one can witness fabulous vista of exotic landscapes, old traditional villages, and ancient Walled Village of Lo Manthang, walk leads with super views on daily around high eroded red color hill cliffs with high smaller caves where old treasure of ancient scrolls, idols, manuscripts where preserved.

This exotic journey offers tremendous views of snow-capped mountain range of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri’s, Bhirkuti and Damodar Himal which is less seen in other areas of Himalaya or by trekkers.

On this Upper Mustang trek vista of Mt. Dhaulagiri I (8,167m) Tukuche Peak (6,920 m) Nilgiri’s Peaks (7,061m) Annapurna I (8,091m / 26,545ft) Annapurna South (7,219m-23,693ft), Gangapurna (7,455m-24,457ft) and Annapurna III (7,555m-24,787ft) to Mt. Machhapuchhre (Fish-tail) Base Camp with 08thhighest Mt. Manaslu 8,163 m, range of mountains with Lamjung Himal.

Upper Mustang trek one of the classic trekking regions, located in the remote area of Far North West Nepal on the old Trans Himalayan Trade and caravan route to Tibet. Actually, an extension of Tibetan vast plateau as culture, religion, traditions, custom, and way of life is similar to Tibetans, where this kingdom stands after separating from Tibet in early 7th Century.

Upper Mustang is known as Lo where culture remains as it was for hundreds of years, on this trek where all types of travelers can join taking a little more than a week in the comfort and hospitality of Lo people in warm cozy lodge known as teahouses along the route.

Upper Mustang is rated as one of the best cultural and classic trekking destination, for its unique ancient traditions and way of life as it was from many centuries, this journey leads from Mediterranean of mid hills to arctic landscapes and climate zone, all these drastic changes in temperature found only in Mustang and Kaligandaki area, this makes a drastic change in vegetations and its awesome scenery and beautiful landscapes.

Day 04:       Trek to Samar (3,290m)Approx – 06-07hrs.

Tour program

Day 1

Pokhara

Day 01: Morning drive to Pokhara and transfer to hotel.

Morning travel by tourist coach over the busy scenic highway towards amazing picturesque Pokhara valley driving through the Himalayan foothills, on arrival at Pokhara transfer to respective hotels nearby beautiful Phewa Lake with afternoon free for short walks.

Day 2

Kagbeni

Day 02: Morning Flight to Jomsom 2,700 and trek to Kagbeni - 04 hrs.

An early start from the hotel in Pokhara for a short flight to Jomsom, the flight takes only 22 minet with mind blowing views of Annapurna, Manaslu and Dhaulagiri range of mountains.Jomsom a large town and a headquarter of Mustang district.

First day walk of this fabulous journey starts right from Jomsom walking on a gentle path most of the day on the Kali-Gandaki river valley, after four hours of good walk on this windy valley reaching at Kagbeni village from here starts the Tibetan culture and religion with great scenery of Mt. Dhaulgairi, Nilgiri’s, this village, the door to Forbidden Kingdom of Upper Mustang.

Day 3

Chhusang

Day 03: Trek to Chhusang (2,920 m) Approx - 06 hrs.

After leaving the Kagbeni village, the walk is uphill for half an hour leaving the Kali-Gandaki River behind for a while. The path leads to harsh barren countryside all the way with occasional stop, passing through few small villages as the walk progress coming to the village Tangbe, another hour of good walk brings you to the overnight stop at Chhusang line up with few trees amidst the red earth surrounding. Chhusang lies at the confluence of the Narsang stream and the Kali Gandaki River.

Day 4

Samar

Day 04: Trek to Samar (3,290m) approx. 6-7 hrs walks.

Todays walk leads first to Chele village after crossing the stream through the broken canyons and ruin castle walls on the surrounding cliffs, across the river from Chusang are some spectacular red eroded cliffs above the mouths of inaccessible caves. After crossing the small bridge an uphill walk for 45 minutes brings you to Chele village. From Chele village the walk gets steeper for an hour up to the ridge at 3,130m, from here you can get a good view of Gyagar across a huge canyon. The trek continues with a slow climb on the windswept terrain till the pass is reached at 3,540m. From here a gradual descent leads you to Samar for the overnight stop.

Day 5

Ghiling

The walk today leads to a short climb above Samar village to a ridge, with a downhill leading to a large gorge past a chorten painted red, black, yellow and white-all the colors are made from local rocks. The journey continues into another valley with juniper trees, after crossing the stream the walk follows uphill path to a ridge at 3,800m, the trail climbs over to another pass, from here the route descends to Shyangmochen, a small settlement with few tea shops at 3,710m. After a good break here, the trek continues to a gentle climb to a pass at 3,770m entering towards a huge valley, from here taking the right downhill path towards our overnight stop at Geling with its large fields of barley on the outskirt of the village.

Day 6

Tsarang

Day 06: Trek to Tsarang (3,560m) - 06 hrs.

Morning an optional tour of old Geling monastery before beginning the walk to Tsarang “Charang” village, an interesting old monastery of Geling here visiting the monastery with Buddhist mani (prayer) wheels run with water power, after a quick tour, morning walk leads to cross over Ghaymi Khola (stream) and then following a long row of interesting Mani walls (holy prayer stone) and reaching at Dhakmar village, after a short rest here couple of hours of god walk brings at overnight stop at Tsarang village encircled by large crops fields with buck wheat’s and barley the only crops that can be grown on this high elevation and cold climate, at Tsarang after getting organized in local lodge or guesthouse for overnight stop, with time to visit another monastery of Tsarang village

Day 7

Lo Manthang

Day 07: Trek to Lo Manthang 3,700 m - 04 hrs.

Walk today leads to our main highlight and to our destination reaching the higher side of Upper Mustang at Lo Manthang. A half day walk to Lo Manthang for lunch and overnights, the pleasant morning walk follows a gentle path and then crossing a steel bridge to reach at Marang village, from here the trail winds up to a ridge top, coming across chortens and mani stones in between Tsarang and Lho Manthang, offering amazing views of windswept terrain landscapes and of true Tibetan plateau country with super panorama of Nilgiri’s, Tilicho and Bhrikuti mountains, after a wonderful moment walk leads to a climb at Lo La pass 3,950 meters elevation and looking below  views of Lo Manthang walled city with its fortress, and then on the downhill path reaching a stream and an hour walk reaches inside a mystical, medieval walled city of Lo Manthang here check into a lodge  for overnight stop for two nights.

Day 8

Ghami

Day 08: Trek to Ghami (3,440m)Approx - 06 hrs.

Today’s walks is more of a descend with few short climb all the way to Ghami, once outside the walled Lo Manthang village-town the path leads to a steady climb to the pass offering the last glimpse of Lo Manthang, the walk from here on is more or less gradual on the downhill slopes most of the way to Ghami village. Ghami is another important village of this region.

Day 9

Samar

Day 09: Trek to Samar- 05 hrs.

The trek today follows the straight route to the Nyi La, with a climb to the ridge and then contouring upwards and encountering the road from Tsarang. From the top of the ridge a steep descend awaits you all the way to Geling Valley. The trail continues bypassing Geling to a lone teahouse and then a gentle downhill to a small settlement of Tama Gung. A steep switchbacks trail leads to a stream; the trail climbs to a large painted chorten. From here it is straightforward route to the overnight camp at Samar.

Day 10

Yak Kharka

Day 10: Trek to Yak Kharka (3,845m) Approx - 06 hrs.

Our route from Samar diverts to the less known area by the westerners, our first portion of the walk leads down hill on the same trail for 2-3 hours through Chele village and then reaching to the Mustang Khola, from here our walk leads uphill for another two hours towards the remote village of Chhomang at 2,940m. Passing through this village our walk climbs further up to the ridge, on leaving the village way down below the walk is more less on the gradual uphill trail, then coming to our overnight camp near the pass at Yak Kharka, depending upon the time of our arrival and the availability of clean water we camp before the pass on the nice grassy field.

Day 11

Muktinath

Day 11: Trek to Muktinath 3,870 m – 07 hrs.

Today one of the longest trek of this trip, but interesting as the route leads to an awesome Muktinath Temple area, where hundreds of pilgrims visits this temple in auspicious time from all over Nepal and India.

Walk follows the upper trail leaving the villages behind passing several Yak herders huts and shelters around summer grazing area, with fantastic vista of Dhaulagiri, Tukuche, Nilgiri’s peaks as the walk eventually end reaching at Muktinath, here in the comfort of nice lodge, as this place leads to famous and popular Thorang la pass, on route Annapurna circuit and Manang area.

Here, visit the holy Muktinath premises with 108 water spouts and other places of interest.

Day 12

Jomsom

Day 12: Trek to Jomsom 2,715 m - 06 hrs.

After a wonderful time at Muktinath with long walk of previous day, today an easy short trek to Jomsom as the walk leads downhill passing the old Jharkot village and towards Kaligandaki River valley near Eklabhatti small place with few lodges, after a stop here walking for another few hours on the valley floor reaching at Jomsom and the end of the long walk of this amazing trips, in Jomsom in comfort of nice and good lodges and enjoy the party with fellow members and staffs with apple products of Mustang area, as Jomsom, Kagbeni to Marpha famous for apples and its products.

Day 13

Pokhara

Day 13: Fly back to Pokhara.

Morning transfer to Jomsom airport for a scenic short flight back to Pokhara on reaching Pokhara airport, transfer to respective hotels by the Phewa lake side, after a wonderful memorable trip in Upper Mustang, afternoon free at leisure.

Day 14

Kathmandu

Day 14: Drive back to Kathmandu.

Morning drive back Kathmandu on reaching Kathmandu our staff will receive and transfer you back to respective hotels and then our service concludes after providing our outmost hospitality and good managemen

Buna Treks & Expeditions extends its best to provide convenience to our entire guest at all times. As per your booking for an adventure or leisure holiday involves traveling into remote Himalaya area, weather conditions in the Himalayan region can be unfavorable and unpredictable sometimes, availability of porters, yaks or other pack animals “beast of burden” and any other means of transport, vehicle breakdown, domestic flight delays or cancellation, trekking trails and road situation or local strikes may require in need for change or even delays at times in our tour and trekking program itinerary days.
Assuring, we will do our best in our limitation and capacity to see that you are inconvenienced and hassle free as possible on this mentioned conditions and situations: Which is beyond and out of our control?
Regarding if such problem arise, no claim or refund will be entertained or provided, including early return from the trip or change in the travel itinerary due to unforeseen reason conditions beyond our control.
All your return expenses including hotel bills where applicable or extra transportation cost to be borne by oneself.
Important things to remember on booking with us:

 

01: After booking trip of your choice you are required to send us a non-refundable deposit of US$ 200 for each person and your holiday insurance as deemed appropriate: The balance of the total payment for the tour or trekking must be made 30 days before the departure date of the chosen trip: If the booking is made only 2 weeks before the departure date then full payment must be made for the booking to be confirmed to place you seat on the chosen trips:We reserve the right to cancel any booking if the balance payment is not made on time: In such cases the cancellation changes as mentioned below will be applicable.All balance or money if you paid to our travel agent aboard in respect of a booking with BUNA Treks & Expeditions is held by the agent on behalf of BUNA Treks & Expeditions.

 

02: The minimum number of persons in a group should be 4 persons, as our trip costs rated are priced respectively. If the minimum number requirement is not reached, this rate is no longer cost-effective, so a surcharge on the trip cost might be added to cover the extra costs for similar number of person in the group or BUNA Treks & Expeditions has the right to cancel it.

 

03: The daily routine is our ultimate goal of the trip is taken as aims and not as contractual obligations: The campsites / Itinerary in some places may need to be rearranged according to situation and circumstances.Clients will be responsible for any expenses incurred due to international or internal flight cancellation / delays, strikes, local regulations, sickness, unfavorable weather, riots etc…..No claim or refund or compensation will be made applicable on this type of Himalayan Adventure holidays and breaking the journey early due to sickness or for any reason beyond our control.

 

04: On the trips you are expected to abide by the authority of BUNA tour / trip leaders or guides; that represents BUNA Treks & Expeditions.Under all circumstances, the decision of a group leader or head guide regarding conduct, itinerary and objective of the tour is final. When you sign the form it signifies you agree to these conditions: If the group leader or guide comes to the conclusion that your behavior or physical condition is detrimental to the safety, welfare and well being of the entire group or if (in consolation with the trip doctor when there is one) the group leader or guide decides that your general well being will be put at risk by your continuing with the trip, you may be asked to abandon the tour without the right to any refund.

 

05: All baggage and personal items are at all times at your own risk, even when carried by yaks-pack animals or porters: We will not be responsible for any loss, damage or accident to any baggage and property, how so ever incurred.

 

06: Refunds or compensation are not provided for any unused hotel accommodation, air tickets or any service or feature of the trip that you did not use.

 

07: To take part in this holiday you must be covered by medical / travel insurance, which must include the cost of repatriation and helicopter rescue including Travel and Medical bills; if you become too ill to continue and might require immediate evacuation by any means of transport or helicopter.If rescue evacuation is required during the trip due to sickness or injury, our staff / guide or leader will contact us at BUNA company head office. We then try to send helicopter or other means of transport as soon as possible.The amount for such Helicopter cost and other relative expenses to be settled by party after their arrival in Kathmandu from the trip or before international departure to respective destination.

 

08: 25% deposit of the trip cost should be paid along with booking at least 30 days before the trip departure. If we do not receive the payment in time, BUNA Treks & Expeditions reserves the right to cancel your booking.Remaining balance should be paid on your arrival in Kathmandu, before your trip departure.

 

09: When we confirm your booking we assume that you realize and accept the potential risk and hazards that can involve on trips of this nature.It is also understood that you have the mental and physical capacity to participate in the activities demanded. It is your full responsibility to bring with you the proper clothing and equipment about which we have informed on all trips:BUNA Treks & Expeditions guides and group leaders as well as anyone else working in association with us cannot be held responsible for nay accident or mishap that may occur in connection with any part of or services connected with the trip.

 

10: Your own responsibilities include medical vaccinations and other preliminary arrangements including your visa procurements. We cannot be held responsible if these cannot be completed in time for departure.

 

11: In case of physically unfit or ill health on arriving Kathmandu before leaving for trek or tour, we reserve the right to cancel the trip for the concerned client with 60 % refund from the trip cost except for visa fees.

Cancellation Policy:
When signing the booking make sure that you have read and understood the clarifications and agreed to abide the rules set by BUNA Treks & Expeditions.
Should you wish to cancel the trip it must be done in writing by the same person whose name the trip is invoiced to or to agent who handled the booking overseas? Please note that if the reason for your cancellation is within the terms of your insurance policy, your money will (normally) be refunded to you directly by the insurance company. You will forfeit the insurance premium on cancellation.
If you are forced to cancel the trip, please do inform us at earliest so that we can minimize the cancellation charges.

01: A cancellation charge of 25% will apply if one cancels the trip 35 days before the trip departure.
02: 50% cancellation charge will apply those who cancel the trip within 2 weeks prior to trip departure.
03: No refunds, thereafter in case of no show or delay on arrival for what so ever reasons.
04: Although every endeavor will be made to remain to the planned itinerary, adjustment may have to be made. Under any circumstances, we reserve the right to cancel your booking with us.

However, your booking will not in normal circumstances be cancelled less than 3 weeks before the departure date. If the need arises to cancel your booking, an alternative holiday trip or similar standard will be arranged for you. If this offer is not acceptable to you, any trip cost paid to Buna Treks & Expeditions or to our agents to respective countries abroad will be refunded. We are not liable for any loss or damage arising out of cancellations under any circumstances whatsoever.
