Tour program

Day 1

Arrival in Ushuaia

Individual arrival in Ushuaia. Welcome to Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world and the starting point of our Antarctic expedition! After your arrival at the airport, you will be greeted by our staff and taken to a high-quality hotel (group transfer depending on flight times). The rest of the day is at your leisure to explore this vibrant port city and the center of the adventure. For an introduction to the local history and wildlife, a visit to the interesting Museo del Fin del Mundo is well worthwhile. If you still have time, you can enjoy a range of outdoor activities suitable for all interests and fitness levels, from hiking in the nearby Tierra del Fuego National Park to wildlife spotting in the Beagle Channel. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and get ready for an exciting day. Today the expedition cruise departs on our beautiful Sea Spirit towards the sub-Antarctic islands. Cruise through the Beagle Channel and time to explore the ship. Overnight stay on board.
Birdwatchers in particular will get their money's worth on the crossing to the Falkland Islands. Take part in interesting briefings and lectures by our team of experts and prepare for your arrival on the Falkland Islands. In our cozy bar, in the restaurant or in the lounge, you can discuss equipment, photography and the upcoming highlights. Overnight stay on board.
The remote and sparsely populated Falkland Islands are a paradise for birdwatchers. The Falkland Islands are also a great place to spot marine mammals. Whales such as Peale's dolphins and Commerson's dolphins live in the waters around the archipelago. Our exact route and opportunities to explore these isolated and often windswept islands will depend on the weather. Of course, a visit to the port of Stanley, the charming British capital of the Falkland Islands, is also planned. Attractions within walking distance along the waterfront include the Falkland Islands Museum, the Governor's House, a cathedral with an impressive whalebone arch, a war memorial, good souvenir stores, pubs and views of shipwrecks in the harbor. 2 nights on board.
From the Falkland Islands, you will head east towards South Georgia. You will cross the "Antarctic Convergence", the biological boundary of the Southern Ocean. Briefings, biosecurity measures and lectures by our experts will prepare you for our arrival in South Georgia. 2 nights on board.
South Georgia is the best place in the world for wildlife and landscape enthusiasts and photographers. The archipelago is home to hundreds of thousands of king penguins, making South Georgia the perfect place to photograph these magnificent creatures. We will try to visit the most beautiful sights such as Gold Harbour, Cooper Bay, Drygalski Fjord and other great locations such as the beaches of Salisbury Plain and St. Andrews Bay, where over 100,000 elephant seals and three million fur seals roam amongst countless penguins. The rich waters around South Georgia are also inhabited by an ever increasing number of whales. The historic Grytviken whaling station is now home to the excellent South Georgia Museum, managed by the South Georgia Heritage Trust. It is also the final resting place of the legendary polar explorer Ernest Shackleton, but the specific route and the exploration possibilities and landing sites on South Georgia depend heavily on the weather conditions. The experienced captain and the expedition leader determine the itinerary and constantly adapt the plans to the conditions and possibilities. You can be sure that we will make the most of the conditions that nature offers us in this wild and remote corner of the world. We take every safe opportunity to go ashore in this amazing place and take the best photos of the wildlife. 7 nights on board.
Immerse yourself in the fascinating presentations by our experts during the crossing and socialize with other travellers. Admire the sight of the birds and marine mammals that accompany our journey on the open deck. South Polar skuas, snow petrels and albatrosses may accompany our ship and enrich your experience with their majestic presence. Encounters with the sea ice provide a dramatic backdrop to your adventure. 2 nights on board.
Today is another day for exploring the Falkland Islands. Millions of seabirds and marine mammals are counted in this remote and breathtakingly beautiful wilderness. Whales and dolphins such as Peale's dolphins and Commerson's dolphins live in the waters around the archipelago. Overnight stay on board.
South Polar skuas, snow petrels and albatrosses may accompany our ship and enrich your experience with their majestic presence. Encounters with the sea ice provide a dramatic backdrop to your adventure. As you approach the Drake Passage, the seabirds you saw at the beginning of your journey will reappear, offering you a full circle wildlife experience. Enjoy the amenities of the Sea Spirit and let the impressions of the last few days sink in. Overnight stay on board.
Disembarkation in Ushuaia after breakfast and transfer to the airport (depending on departure time). Individual journey home or onward journey.
