Itinerary

Embark on this nine-day journey from northern to southern Kenya’s most majestic landscapes. Enjoy a safari experience in Samburu, spotting unique wildlife such as reticulated giraffes and Grevy's zebras in the picturesque landscape. Head to Nyahururu Falls, marvel at the scenic beauty and explore the surrounding area. Travel to Lake Naivasha, a freshwater lake surrounded by lush landscapes and conclude your journey with a visit to the iconic Masai Mara Game Reserve admiring rich biodiversity and enjoying game drives to spot the "Big Five."  Immerse yourself in the diverse landscapes, and appreciate the unique wildlife and cultural experiences each destination has to offer.

Day 1

ARRIVAL NAIROBI

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, a representative will meet and transfer you to your selected hotel. Enjoy an afternoon at your own leisure, perhaps taking advantage of the hotel facilities or heading out to explore the city. Overnight in Nairobi.

Day 2

NAIROBI – SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE (310km – 5.5 hrs)

Heading north after an early breakfast, you pass near Thika and continue north through some breathtaking scenery dotted with rushing mountain streams and fields of tea and coffee. After Nanyuki town, continue north, eventually reaching a dusty outpost known as Isiolo, the last major stop on the journey into the remote northern frontier district. From here it's a fairly short hop to Samburu. Arrive at the lodge in time for lunch and then depart for an afternoon game drive arriving back at the lodge as the sunsets. Overnight at Samburu.
Day 3

SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE

Early morning game drive followed by breakfast. Samburu is renowned for its unique and diverse wildlife, including species not commonly found in other parts of Kenya, such as reticulated giraffes, Grevy's zebras, and Beisa oryx. The reserve features a semi-arid landscape with acacia trees, open savannah, and the Ewaso Ng'iro River, providing a distinct backdrop for wildlife viewing. Samburu is also a haven for bird enthusiasts, with over 450 bird species recorded in the area. Species like the Somali ostrich, vulturine guinea fowl, and various raptors can be spotted. On return relax by the pool or terrace, overlooking the river and after lunch prepare for another game drive returning to the lodge as the sun sets. Overnight at Samburu.
Day 4

SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE – NYAHURURU (235km – 4 hrs)

Leaving Samburu behind, travel south through Isiolo, crossing the northernmost foothills of Mount Kenya, until you get to the town of Nanyuki. Head north-west towards Nyahururu, located close to the equator and home to Nyahururu Falls, a 74-meter-high falls on the Ewaso Nyiro river. Visit the equator for a photo stop, before continuing to your hotel located near the Falls. Following lunch, depart on an escorted walk of the hotel grounds, before continuing your walk to the falls and a visit to the Hippo Pools. Return to your lodge in the late afternoon. Overnight at Nyahururu.
Day 5

NYAHURURU – LAKE NAIVISHA (110kms – 2.5 hrs)

Following an early breakfast, drive in a southerly direction to your next destination, the spectacular Lake Nakuru. Once in the national park, embark on a game drive followed by lunch at a lodge. The national park, known for its birdlife, offers the possibility to view flamingoes (in season). It is also home to Black and White rhinos as well as the endangered Rothschild Giraffe. After lunch, view the game en route to the park gate and continue to your next stop for the night Naivasha, arriving late afternoon. Following check in formalities, depart on a 1 hour Boat ride on Lake Naivasha. Overnight in Lake Naivasha.
Day 6

LAKE NAIVISHA – MAASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE (240km – 5 hrs)

Following an early morning breakfast, leaving Lake Naivasha behind, begin your drive to Masai Mara ascending first up over the top of the Mau Escarpment; then, heading due south, towards Narok, the gateway to the Maasai Mara and district headquarters of this part of Maasailand. Travel across the "breadbasket" of Kenya, covered with acres of wheat and barley, before you reach the Mara in time for lunch. Following lunch and a siesta, an afternoon game drive returning to the camp as the sun sets. Overnight at Masai Mara.
Day 7

MAASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

Enjoy an early breakfast before departing for a morning game drive. The Maasai Mara National Reserve is home to millions of wild animals, including the fabled Big Five of lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhinoceros as well as antelopes, gazelles and wildebeests among others. Return to the lodge for lunch and perhaps a siesta before enjoying an afternoon game drive. Return to the lodge as the sun sets, for dinner. Overnight in Maasai Mara.
Day 8

MAASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

After an early breakfast enjoy another day on the morning and afternoon game drives. Lunch and dinner will be served in the lodge. Overnight in Masai Mara.
Day 9

MAASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE – NAIROBI (280km – 5 hrs)

Following breakfast depart the Masai Mara and head across acres of rolling wheat and barley farms to Narok, the district headquarters of this part of Maasailand. From here cross the vast plains on the floor of the Rift Valley, before heading up the rift escarpment on a road built by Italian prisoners during World War II. Arrive in Kenya’s bustling capital around mid-day. Once in the city, clients will be dropped off at the airport or Panari Hotel or Ole Sereni Hotel for ongoing travel arrangements.

  • Day 9, the drop-off at a city centre hotel in Nairobi or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 01:30 pm approx. Flights to be booked from 04:30 pm onwards

  • Due to limited luggage space in vehicles, suitcases are unsuitable for scheduled road safaris. We recommend luggage packed in inexpensive barrel/sausage bags or soft-sided bags not exceeding 15kg and 65x46 cm. Excess luggage can be handed over to the representative at the time of briefing. It will be handed over to you on your return from the safari. Additional costs may apply to pick up drop off luggage at specific points
