Mount Toubkal Ascent & Berber Villages Trek – 4 Days from Marrakech

Depart from Marrakech and drive towards Oukaimeden (the trek’s starting point), where you will meet your mule team and begin the adventure. Before setting off, visit the area’s ancient rock carvings, a fascinating glimpse into Morocco’s prehistoric past.

The trek starts with a climb over the Tizi n’Addi Pass (2,960m), offering spectacular views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. From here, descend towards the beautiful Imnane Valley and the village of Tacheddirt (2,300m), one of the highest Berber villages in the Atlas Mountains.

• Overnight in a local gîte (Berber guesthouse) or tents.
• Trekking time: approx. 5 hours.

After breakfast, begin your trek from Tacheddirt and climb steadily towards the Tizi n’Tamatert Pass (2,279m), where you’ll enjoy sweeping views over the valleys of Imnane and Imlil.

Descend into the Imlil Valley, the heart of the High Atlas and the main starting point for Mount Toubkal expeditions. Continue to the nearby village of Aroumd (1,900m), where you will spend the night in a traditional Berber gîte (guesthouse).

Trekking time: approx. 4 hours.

After an early breakfast, begin your ascent from Aroumd, heading towards the Sidi Chamharouch Shrine, a small white-washed pilgrimage site set against the rocky mountainside. This stop is both cultural and spiritual, attracting locals and visitors alike.

After around 3 hours of trekking, pause for lunch along the trail before continuing the steady climb towards the Toubkal Refuge (3,200m). The final stretch offers incredible alpine landscapes as you gain altitude and prepare for the summit day.

• Trekking time: approx. 6 hours.

After an early breakfast, begin the ascent of Mount Toubkal (4,167m), the highest peak in North Africa. The climb is challenging but non-technical, and as you reach the summit, you are rewarded with panoramic views over the High Atlas, the Anti-Atlas peaks including Mount Siroua (3,304m), and the vast Haouz plain stretching towards Marrakech.

After enjoying this unforgettable moment at the summit, descend back to the Refuge for lunch. In the afternoon, continue your trek down to Imlil, where your vehicle will be waiting for the transfer back to Marrakech.
