Relish the scenic splendour of the Cape Winelands,Klein Karoo and Garden Route

South Africa is well known for its attractions that entice, and the Garden Route, a safari experience and the Cape Winelands are some of the most sought after. The Garden Route, Safari & Winelands package combines the best elements for a journey beyond expectation.

This round trip begins in Cape Town and travels through Barrydale, Oudtshoorn and Knysna, where you will experience local life at a farm school, before enjoying the ‘ostrich feather capital’ Oudtshoorn and Knysna, a verdant paradise. Your safari will be revealed at a private game reserve that is malaria-free and features the Big Five. The journey concludes with a trip to Hermanus, a whale-watching mecca (in season) and ending in Stellenbosch, South Africa’s City of Oaks, where wine and art create the ambience of a distinguished experience.

Day 1

Cape Town - Oudtshoorn

This morning you will be met at your hotel by your representative and depart for the ‘Little Karoo’, travelling via Montagu, a picturesque spa town. Enjoy tea and scones at the only original Art Deco Hotel in South Africa. Stop off in the town of Barrydale, where we will have the opportunity to visit a local farm school, interact with the children and teachers, spending time with them in the classroom, learning more about this rural community. A portion of the trip monies go towards our Barrydale Farm School Development Fund, that support local education of underprivileged children in rural communities. (The school visit is subject to the school being open). Sample top quality port style wines in Calitzdorp, before continuing to Oudtshoorn, the ‘ostrich feather capital’ and centre of the world’s Ostrich farming industry. Overnight in Oudtshoorn. Enjoy dinner at an Ostrich Farm, dining on local specialities. [Included Meals: Dinner]

Day 2

Oudtshoorn - Knysna

After breakfast take a tour of the spectacular limestone caverns of the Cango Caves, one of the world’s great natural wonders, sculpted by nature through the ages. Return to Oudtshoorn for a fun filled interactive tractor tour and light lunch at an Ostrich Farm, including local specialities such as Ostrich Steak. Our journey continues over the scenic Outeniqua Pass to George, where we’ll visit the Outeniqua Transport Museum. This museum offers a unique experience of the Garden Route’s railway history, showcasing a vast collection of vintage vehicles, locomotives and other transport related artifacts. Afterwards, continue to Knysna, known as the oyster box of South Africa, nestling on the banks of a beautiful lagoon in the heart of the Garden Route. Along the way, visit the ‘Map of Africa’, an extraordinary viewpoint in Wilderness. Overnight in Knysna. [Included Meals: Breakfast & Lunch]

Day 3

Knysna - Plettenberg Bay - Knysna

After a leisurely breakfast, drive through the Tsitsikamma Forests. Explore this breathtaking stretch of the Garden Route, where mountains, indigenous forests, deep gorges, and lush vegetation hug the rugged coastline of cliffs and sandy beaches. Visit the spectacular Tsitsikamma National Park and Storms River Mouth (weather permitting). In the afternoon you’ll return to Knysna, with a stop in Plettenberg Bay, originally christened "Bahia Formosa" (beautiful bay) by early Portuguese explorers.


Our next stop is Mungo, a family owned and managed textile mill in Plettenberg Bay, producing fine quality textiles, using antique looms alongside modern weaving technology. There is also an option (for own account and subject to availability) to visit Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary, where you will be able to see a variety of primates, roaming free in the forest. A portion of the trip price of this TRAVEL WITH A PURPOSE Activity, goes towards ensuring that these already endangered species can survive and reproduce for a future reintroduction into the wild. There is also an option, (for own account and subject to availability) to visit the Birds of Eden Sanctuary, the biggest single free flight aviary in the world. A portion of the trip price of this TRAVEL WITH A PURPOSE Activity goes towards protecting genetically pure species of various Taxa in a semi-wild state and to hold the seeds of these Taxa for future reintroduction into the wild. Lunch will be enjoyed en route.

Day 4

Knysna - Albertinia

After a leisurely breakfast, travel via George and Mossel Bay to Albertinia, a town set against the backdrop of the majestic Langeberg Mountain Range. En route, enjoy a leisurely walk or swim at Victoria Bay, one of the smallest and most beautiful bays along the Garden Route. Join an afternoon open vehicle game drive, at a malaria free private game reserve, that is home to an abundance of animal and birdlife, including the Big Five. Enjoy a relaxed dinner of safari cuisine, discussing the day’s game viewing. Overnight in the region of Albertinia. [Included Meals: Breakfast & Dinner]

Day 5

Albertinia - Hermanus

Our safari adventure continues with an early morning open vehicle game drive. Our expert guide will endeavour to spoil us with sightings of the ‘Big Five’, general game and prolific bird life. Leaving the bush behind, our journey will take us to the picturesque Cape Dutch town of Swellendam. This charming town was founded in 1745 and is famous for its youngberries, eclectic architecture, and National Parks, as well as outdoor activities. Our journey further continues to the seaside resort of Hermanus, known as the heart of the whale route, offering the best land-based whale watching (August to November) in the world. Dinner at the Heritage Restaurant, one of the oldest fisherman’s cottages in Hermanus, where delectable dishes are created using seasonal, local produce. Overnight in Hermanus. Day 6

Hermanus - Cape Town

After a leisurely breakfast depart Hermanus and travel to historic Stellenbosch with its Cape Dutch architecture, absorb the quaintness of this lovely university town before continuing to Cape Town, the oldest city in South Africa, spectacularly set at the foot of Table Mountain where the tour ends on arrival. STANDARD CONDITIONS OF BUSINESS

1 CANCELLATIONS

1.1 General Conditions

1.1.1 Cancellations made more than 45 days prior to arrival will not normally result in cancellation fees being charged. However;

1.1.2 Cullinan Guided Journeys reserves the right to recover any costs incurred or charges received from suppliers up to the date of cancellation.

1.1.3 In the event of services being cancelled 45 days or less, prior to arrival, the following cancellation fees will apply.

• 45 days to 36 days before commencement of services: 25% total quoted tour price due.  

(Subject to 2. above) 

• 35 days to 16 days before commencement of services: 50% of total quoted tour price due.

• 15 days or less before commencement of services : 100% of the total quoted tour price due

We recommend that you ensure that your passengers take adequate personal cancellation insurance cover before departure from home.

1.2 Special Conditions

For tours that include services of certain suppliers with more stringent policies, e.g., National Parks Board, Blue Train, Private Lodges and others, different cancellation fees will be enforceable.  These will be provided when applicable.

2 AIRLINES

Cancellations and refunds

In the event of cancellation or failure, for any reason whatsoever, to use confirmed space, as ticketed, 25% (twenty five percent) of the applicable airfare will be forfeited.  A change of reservation constitutes a cancellation. Extension of ticket validity is no permitted, save when a passenger is hospitalised due to illness or in the event of death of a member of the passenger’s immediate family.

All airfare reservations are arranged subject to the conditions imposed by the respective airline.


3 UNDERTAKING

Cullinan Guided Journeys undertakes to provide all services offered subject to the terms and conditions set out herein, which terms and conditions are accepted by the passenger.

4 DEFINITION

Cullinan Guided Journeys means: Cullinan Holdings LTD T/A Cullinan Guided Journeys 

Passenger means: Individuals, groups, companies or other legal persons using the services offered by Cullinan Guided Journeys and includes the agents of passengers.

Services means:   The provision of accommodations and/or transportation and/or meals as offered by Cullinan Guided Journeys and accepted by the Passenger.

5 TERMS OF PAYMENT

5.1 On confirmation of services - a deposit of 25 % of the quoted tour price is required (N.B: For tours that include Blue Train and/or Private Game Reserves and Lodges, a different schedule of deposits, payments and cancellation fees apply. This will be provided when applicable.)

45 days before commencement of services - full payment plus rooming list is required.

Notes

i) Bookings made within 45 days of commencement of services must be accompanied by full payment of the tour plus rooming list.

ii) Where circumstances do not permit the timeous receipt of funds, explicit confirmation of transfer of funds will enable us to reserve services.

5.2 If payments are made in negotiable foreign currency, the payer will be responsible for any short payment resulting from exchange rate fluctuations. The exchange rate applied by the official bankers of Cullinan Guided Journeys on receipt of moneys will be accepted as the applicable rate.

5.3 If the required deposit or final payment is not received by due date, Cullinan Guided Journeys reserves the right to withdraw services.

6 LUGGAGE

One suitcase and one overnight bag per person is allowed. Cullinan Guided Journeys accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to luggage or personal property from whatsoever cause arising. Passengers are advised to take up adequate insurance cover.

7 DELAYS

Cullinan Guided Journeys shall not be responsible for the consequences of any delays whether arising from accidents, breakdowns, or any other cause.

8 RESPONSIBILITY

Cullinan Guided Journeys carries comprehensive passenger liability insurance details of which will be made available on request.  Cullinan Guided Journeys is not responsible for any damages sustained by any passenger as a result of any act or omission whatsoever of any hotel, airline or other person, notwithstanding the fact the Cullinan Guided Journeys acted as agent of such hotel, airline or other person.

9 LAW

The law of the Republic of South Africa shall govern the relationship between Cullinan Guided Journeys and the passenger and the Courts of the Republic of South Africa shall have sole jurisdiction in respect of any claims and/or disputes which may arise between Cullinan Guided Journeys and the passenger, or Agent.
