Upper Mustang Photography Tour takes you to amazing high country of Nepal Far North Western Himalaya at Upper Mustang. It’s a most scenic place truly a photographers paradise within deserted landscapes of barren and arid terrain. And yet, it offers charming and beautiful views.


Photography Tour to Upper Mustang certainly surprises you with the magnificent and dramatic dry landscapes. This place is an extension of Tibet Far South West plateau, where culture and people resembles across the border. Also, one can witness the Tibetan custom of Buddhism and pre Buddhist sect of ancient Bon traditions.


Upper Mustang Photography Tour also leads you to experience around former walled kingdom of Lo-Manthang and its beautiful surroundings. It is rich in eroded high cliffs and canyons reflecting with varied colors on sunlight including views of Mustang Himal and Dhaulagiri mountain range.


Our adventure starts right from the capital of Kathmandu by exploring its ancient monuments of both Hindu and Buddhism. It is done along with old palace courtyard of different era of past medieval times. And, here you witness the harmony of local impressive culture(like Tiji Festival) and traditional life as it was past thousands of years.


After an interesting tour with great photography opportunity, our next destination takes you to scenic and beautiful Pokhara city. Its a verdant valley, blessed with natural wonders of Annapurna Himalaya and serene lakes that catches reflection of snow-capped mountains.


From scenic Pokhara, now we get ready for our real adventure towards the remote corners of Himalaya around Mustang region. After a scenic flight of 30 mins(approx.) from the Pokhara city, we reach Jomsom, a headquarter town of Mustang district. It is located on Old Trans Himalayan Salt and Caravan route to Tibet, a strong trading post as well.


Now, from Lower Mustang, we start heading towards the interesting villages of Kagbeni and then, towards Chusang and Dhakmar. Then finally, we reach amazing former kingdom of Lo-Manthang. On this route, you can enjoy taking shots of beautiful landscapes and high snow capped peaks with traditional farm villages. Also, the place is highly adorned with long series of prayer bells and stone slate walls of great significant.


Within walled city of Lo-Manthang, you will be engaged with exciting visit and culture exploration with old heritage living style of Lo people. Also, one gets opportunity to explore the fort palace of former King of Mustang who ruled till last Ten decades. Visiting the old and important monasteries are another highlights of the trip.


With great time around Upper Mustang, we drive back to Jomsom for flights back to scenic Pokhara city. Now, it’s time to enjoy your time around this picturesque spots with stunning views of sunrise over array of Himalayan peaks. And finally, we head towards Kathmandu city, after enjoying lovely and fantastic Mustang Photography Tour.


Upper Mustang Photography Tour Best Seasons

All months from March to November.


March to May is best time for Upper Mustang Photography as per clear views.  Wild flowers are in bloom with fantastic views of mountains at that time. This season has a pleasant day with cooler morning and night time.


October to November is  yet another best time for this Mustang tour due to clear views of peaks. With a short sunlight days, it can be freezing cold in the morning and night time, depending upon the altitude and overnight stop.


As Mustang falls within rain-shadow blocked by high Himalayan Mountains, July to mid September is also regarded as the best season.

Tour program

Day 1

Reach Kathmandu via various international airline and transfer to hotel.

On arrival get received by our staff and guide and transfer to your respective hotels in the hub of Kathmandu. After checking into your lovely rooms, get refreshed from jet-leg. Then join in with other members of Upper Mustang Photography Tour.


Our guide / leader will brief with information about the hotels-including detail of trekking regarding local lodge, walks, view, history and culture.  Simultaneously, with few important do’s and don’ts while you are with us having enjoyable times.


Evening includes a nice dinner(with most popular Nepali foods)  in a pleasant Nepalese restaurant with local cultural programs. Remember the next day morning, we will have an Kathmandu tour.

Day 2

In Kathmandu with full day sightseeing tour around world heritage sites.

After breakfast, the interesting tour starts with a short drive to Pashupatinath Temple a holy Hindu Temple. It is situated 5-kms east of Kathmandu. It’s the temple of Lord Shiva-Pashupatinath which is famous for its superb architecture with two tiered golden roof and silver doors . Visitors can clearly see the temple and activities performed in the temple premises from the eastern bank of Bagmati River.


Beside Hindu people, other are not allowed entering main Temple premises. However one can witness the religious activities from the other side of Bagmati River and observe pilgrims in worship. From here a short drive leads to the Bouddhanath north east from Pashupatinath area.


The Stupa of Bouddhanath lays 8-kms east of Kathmandu. This colossal and ancient stupa is one of the biggest in the world. The area around known as ‘Little Tibet’ due to local people of Tibetan origin and culture.


After a wonderful visit of great Stupa, tour continues towards centre of Kathmandu city around its old Durbar Square (palace courtyard) an interesting place full of lively activities.


Tour of Kathmandu Durbar Square (old Palace and courtyard), Akash Bhairab Temple, Hanuman Dhoka, historic seat of past royal, belonging to Malla and Shah Dynasty.Visit Temple of Kumari and holy quadrangle with Buddhist stupa, center form the residential quarters of the Chaste Virgin Living Goddess called KUMARI. Kastha Mandap located near the Temple of Kumari a unique type of wooden temple also known as Maru Satal built in 1596 A.D. by King Laxmi Narsingh Malla, where the name Kathmandu derived from a temple built by a wood of a single tree called ‘Kastha Mandap.


From here visit Swoyambhunath (Monkey Temple), stands as one of the world’s oldest Buddhist Chaityas and the land mark of  Nepal. It has a history of more than 25 centuries old. This Great Stupa of Swayambhunath, is the wonder and the glory that was Nepal, listed as World Heritage Site.


After a great full day tour of Kathmandu at place of interest back to hotel with afternoon free at leisure.

Day 3

Drive to Pokhara 860 m -08 hrs and get transfer to hotel by the lake.

After having a good breakfast, an exciting drive leads to one of the famous place in all Himalaya at picturesque Pokhara. On reaching Pokhara overnights in nice hotels by the serene Phewa Lake.


Afternoon you can have a free walks around the lake side with interesting shops and stores.The place includes world class restaurants with close views of Annapurna mountain range and stunning peak of Machhapuchare Himal.

Day 4

Drive to Jomsom 2,715 m – 07 hrs ride.

With overnight stop in Pokhara, after the breakfast, we take a long scenic drive to Jomsom. On the way, we encounter numerous villages like Beni, Tatopani, Kalopani and Marpha which is really typical to encounter. Jomsom is approximately 157 km far away from Pokhara and 357 km approx. from the capital city of Pokhara.


After a 5 hours of drive, we reach a beautiful village of Kalopani, a place with stunning view of Nilgiri South. Here we take our first Himalayan lunch. Then, the drive continues towards another scenic village of Marpha and then finally to the stunning destination, Jomsom.

Day 5

Drive to Tsarang (Charang) 3,560 m via Kagbeni- 05 hrs.

From Jomsom, the trail leads along Kaligandaki plains where walk leads you past Ekle-bhatti village. And then into an impressive old village at Kagbeni, the door to Upper Mustang and beyond towards Tibet border.


At Kagbeni, you enjoy time with great photo opportunity taking pictures of local people interwoven with Tibetan Buddhism religion. Also, can enjoy interesting traditional farm life, visiting its monasteries and streets lines with shops and stores with Himalayan views.Then, the drive leads within towering colorful canyon and high eroded cliffs to reach at Tiri-Gaon village with well cultivated farm fields.


Journey leads through beautiful landscapes with short up and downs and on winding path to reach at Tshele village. It is a moderate size village. And from here onward into more Buddhism culture and custom similar to Tibet across the border.


From this nice village of Tsele, continue with some stops for photography and then drive climb to reach at Gyakar village. And then step into windswept terrain within dry and arid country. Finally, we reach Samar village, one of the attractive looking villages.


With time at Samar village continues to reach a small place of Bhena and then a steep climb leads to a ridge on top Yamda La(3,860 m) pass. It offers stunning views of Upper Mustang landscapes with high snow capped peaks of Mt. Dhaulagiri and Mustang Himal range.


Enjoying great scenery descend to Syangboche village another interesting traditional village. With pleasant and wonderful stops drive t0 Tsarang also spelled “Charang”. Visit its old monastery and witness Buddhist prayer wheels propelled and supported by fast flowing water. After an interesting tour of the Gompa / monastery, continues drive past Ghami and Dhakmar villages. Then finally reach nice looking village of Tsarang, an impressive place surrounded by vast fields of buck wheat’s and barley.


Here we visit its old monastery enriched with ancient religious relics and painting on walls and ceiling with great statue of Buddha.

Day 6

Drive to Lo-Manthang 3,810 m – 02 hrs.

From here our journey leads to our main highlight and goal of the trip at Lo-Manthang. In former times it was known as the walled city. But at present, it’s actually a large village within the fort and Dzong of Lo-Manthang guarding the villages from invaders.


It is the place, once a former kingdom where Raja (king) of Mustang ruled over around huge Mustang region, where drive leads to Marang village. From here climb a ridge top, past chhorten and mani stones prayer walls in between Tsarang and Lo Manthang.


The drive carries a facing views of Nilgiri’s, Tilicho and Bhrikuti peaks. And then up to Lo La(3,950 m) high offering grand scenery looking down towards Lo Manthang walled village and a fortress. From here descend to the base of a pass then on nice path to reach at Lo Manthang for  overnight stops.

Day 7

At Lo-Manthang for local excursion and explore the village-town.

Today you will be fully engrossed taking pictures around this exciting place within walled town of Lo-Manthang. Exploring narrow neat stone paved alley within impressive villages and houses with Tibetan design and carving.


Tour around its historical and cultural centers one of the main attractions of Lo-Manthang. Explore four grand monasteries of Namgyal Gompa, Champa Lakhang (God House), Red Thubchen Gompa, Chyodi Gompa and its Great Entrance Hall.


Take a special permission to enter King’s palace and visit the interior of the old palace. And to grant audience with late King of Mustang family if possible.

Day 8

Drive to Kagbeni 2,804 m – 05 hrs.

After a most glorious and amazing time within former walled kingdom of Upper Mustang at Lo-Manthang, we take morning drive to the same route. You get more opportunity to photograph the villages-people and beautiful landscapes and slowly reach Kagbeni, the cultural village with a complete Tibetan influence.


Great fun shooting with your camera taking photos of cheerful people of Tibetan origin with wide smile along with views.

Day 9

Drive to Muktinath and drive back to Marpha 2,650 m – 03 hrs ride.

Today, the drive leads further up to reach at holy spot of Muktinath one of the highest place of the trip.


Muktinath, located on route of popular Annapurna Circuit trekking routes of Manang via high Thorang la a high pass. It joins the trail here while coming from upper Mustang region. In auspicious time the place flooded with pilgrims of both Hindu and Buddhist, a great photograph opportunity.


Enjoy views of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri’s peaks where Muktinath history and its temple goes back to antiquity of thousands years. Both Hindu and Buddhist come on the pilgrimage to this sight of natural power.


Visit Temple of Muktinath and its 108 water spout, one of the sources of Kaligandaki River. Rest of the afternoon visit the village around Muktinath and immerse within its culture and traditional life.


After enjoying the beautiful time around Muktinath, we take a drive from holy place of Muktinath to Jomsom town. And then, further drive takes place to reach the beautiful village of Marpha. It’s a last overnight spot in a nice lodge around Mustang area.


Jomsom area from Kagbeni to Marpha is famous for delicious apples and products cider, brandy and juice. Celebrate last night dinner with staff and other members.

Day 10

Drive back to Pokhara and transfer to hotel -07 hrs ride.

Last day of our Upper Mustang Trek package completes after taking a quite long scenic drive to reach beautiful Pokhara city.


Pokhara is a charming place blessed with high Annapurna range of peaks with calm lakes of Phewa and Begnas. After reaching the city, you get transfer to hotel by the beautiful Phewa Lake, with time to explore around interesting streets of lake side.

Day 11

Morning drive to Sarankot for sunrise views and photograph afternoon drive back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotels.

Early morning short drive to Sarankot hill top which is a famous view point for super sunrise views over range of mountains. The range includes from Dhaulagiri-Annapurna to Mt. Manaslu. Also, offers an aerial view of Pokhara valley and Lake Phewa, a popular spot for Para-Gliding as well.


After catching the views of sunrise and mountains, we get back to hotel. After having refreshment, we take our lunch in Pokhara. And then, we head back to Kathmandu city where on the way you get stunning views of landscapes, rivers and mountains. Then, you will be transferred back to your hotel.

Day 12

International departure for homeward bound.

Enjoying marvelous time and experience on  Upper Mustang Photography Tour and over high Larke-La pass it ‘s time to return back. Morning board in a vehicle for exciting and interesting overland journey to reach back at Kathmandu for last moment within amazing Nepal and its Himalaya.

Booking with us:

After going through our norms and conditions you ask for information and queries if in doubt, all trip booking for Nepal destinations should be made by two months earlier minimum of two weeks times, so that we arrange necessary details well in advance to avoid disappointment like hotel-domestic airlines booking and as well chartering bus-coach or booking tourist bus tickets ahead before your arrival.

25% down payment which you can transfer to Bank Account in Kathmandu / Nepal rest of the trip cost to be made on arrival in Kathmandu before trek / tour departures, where applicable foreign currencies accepted like US $ – UK Pounds, and Euro or Chinese / Indian.

For Tibet and Bhutan at least minimum of one month booking ahead to arrange all logistic and entry permits for neighboring countries with 50% in advance.


Booking in Last Hour:

We accept your last hour booking in the eve of trip departure with 100% payment (07 days prior to tour starting date only for Nepal Trips, excluding trips Tibet, Bhutan and India not accepted as this requires at least 3 weeks in advance prior to trip departure for Nepal neighboring countries.

Trips Cancellation Policy:

On booking, some might be compelled to cancel the trip with various reasons from personal / domestic, medical, health, job or with some other situations, in this case where cancellation fees will be applied of 25% as cancellation charge, where you will be notified us or to our overseas agents with minimum of month in advance before trip departure.

60 % cancellation fee applied on 2 weeks to a month notice.

No refund on last minute or no show situation.

If clients has to return or break from the tour, trekking / or any other trips earlier than proposed itinerary days due to medical / physical or personal reasons clients has to borne his / her own expenses on route of trekking and at hotel in Kathmandu or in any other last main cities before you departure for home.

There are no refunds, if the company has to reroute to other areas due to unavoidable circumstances and from bad weather.

If such conditions arise company holds the right and providing you a hassle free adventure holidays with enjoyable time.

Clients’ Responsibility:

A tour / trekking guide representing our company holds all authority during treks and tours. If one behave badly or commit any unlawful act, where you will be compelled to leave the tour / treks. No refund will be made in such condition.

NEPAL VISA & PASSPORT CONDITION:

All clients are requested to have a valid passport with at least six months validity from the return date. Nepal visas can be obtained from the Nepal Consulate or Embassy in your country or upon arrival in Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport.  The costs of Nepalese visas are sole / own responsibility of clients.

CANCELLATION & BOOKING CHANGES FOR BHUTAN:

01: Required minimum of 30 days for cancellation notice prior to trip departure and it must be in written form, such notice will be implied from the day the note is received. Cancellation shall be valid after the company approval on receiving the documentation. The Trip shall then be termed as cancelled and then 50% of the trip amount would be deducted from the advance paid as cancellation charge.

02: There will be no refunds if a passenger cancels the trip or leaves a trip for any reason whatsoever, either voluntarily, involuntarily or if you commit any unlawful act after the trip has commenced. We will make no refunds for any meals, accommodation or services not used.

03: On the eve of trip departure if you are prevented in joining the chosen tour, unfortunately there is no refund regarding this, transfer or postponing options are available as the Bhutanese Government has strict Tourism act and policies.

BHUTAN VISAS & PASSPORT CONDITIONS:

All clients requested to have a valid passport with at least 6 months validity from return date. For Bhutan visas you need to send your passport details to Destination Holidays for visa applications at least 45 days prior to the fix departure date.

TIBET CANCELLATION & BOOKING CHANGES:

01: As per the company rules, there will be no refund to clients with less than 20 days notice given to us, on or before Trip departure and if a clients leaves the trip earlier for due to personal or medical reason whatsoever, either voluntarily or involuntarily and if committed any unlawful act after the trip has commenced. Then the company is compelled to make no refunds for any meals, accommodation or services not used.

02: If client require any changes from the chosen original tour, the person who have booked the tour must submit a written document with any changes required. Then we will make every effort after the notification, but the changes cannot be guaranteed.

03: If you are compelled to cancel from travelling on the tour by genuine reason or circumstances, for example (without restriction) due to death, injury or any serious illness of the person, close relative or friends, redundancy or jury service, in this case one may postpone or transfer your booking to another close person, as long or provided they meet all the requirements relating to that trip. You are requested to provide proof of why you were unable to travel at the time and need to change your booking.

NEPAL / TIBET VISAS & PASSPORT CONDITION:

All clients are requested to have a valid passport with at least six months validity from the return date. Nepal visas can be obtained from the Nepal Consulate or Embassy in your country or upon arrival in Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport.  The costs of Nepalese visas are sole responsibility of clients.

As you are unable to obtain visas to Tibet you need to send your passport details to Destination Holidays for visa applications to this country, we require this information at least three weeks prior to departure.

HEALTH & FITNESS:

All Treks and Tours requires where one should be in sound health and good level of fitness before signing trip with us, client requires should with your Doctor or Physician regarding your health and fitness before the trip departures to Himalayan destinations.

It’s solely client’s responsibility to inform Eco Holidays Nepal of any pre-existing medical condition or disability that might reasonably be expected to increase the risk of your required medical attention, which may affect your capability to travel on the trips booked with us.

CHILDREN:

An authorized guardian by the parents must accompany all travelers under the age of sixteen. If you have any queries regarding age and suitability, please contact us for further information.

PUBLICITY:

Request to allow Eco Holidays Nepal to use pictures, snaps or images of you taken during the trip without being informed and as well without compensation, for company promotion and advertising purpose only through whatever medium takes place.

CHANGES TO YOUR HOLIDAY AND PRICING:

Travelling with us requires a degree of flexibility, positive attitude good humor and understanding where mode of transport, accommodation and itineraries may change, even after the tour has commenced, without prior notice due to local circumstances such as flight delay, cancellation or postponement, road block due to riots and political crises.

WEATHER:

Himalayan regions or other unpredictable circumstances such as land-slides, road blockage, flood, snow, political unrest or delay arrival etc. Eco Holidays Nepal is unable to refund any payment under the above circumstances due to prior supplier arrangements. If possible we will always endeavor to provide you an alternative or substitute trip of same category.

Eco Holidays Nepal does not accept any responsibility for loss on employment, delays or compensation resulting from situations beyond our control.

Our holidays, tour / trek packages, are based on twin share accommodation. Thus, single room supplement charge will be imposed to clients who do not have another tour participant to share accommodation with.

We reserve the right to revise pricing rates posted in our marketing material, under any circumstances, or on the pressure of various external factors that are further than our control, for instance changes in exchange rate, government action etc.

PRIVACY:

In order to gather information from you to make a booking through Eco Holidays Nepal  Destination, may ask many questions to obtain necessary permits etc. No private or personal information that you supply to us when making a booking will be disclosed for any other purposes.

Eco Holidays Nepal shall not be responsible for any changes in the itinerary due to unavoidable circumstance such as govt. restriction, Land slide, road blockage, flood, snow political unrest, cancellation of flight, delay, sickness or accident, Any extra cost incurring there of shall be borne by the clients on the spots.

Client also should understand that what you might be accustomed to the western affluent countries, Himalayan or Third World and Developing Countries can’t afford such facilities.

Weather is another factor that directly impact on the journey. Hence, patience and positive in mind, enthusiasm and proper preparation before hand is must in taking part around third world countries.

The best thing is to take as it comes and think positively, then you will enjoy the holiday with us.

Travel Insurance:

You must have complete travel insurance package against medical, travel for natural calamity, helicopter evacuation, personal accident, trip cancellation etc. This is strongly suggested to all our respected clients.

Tour Amendment:

To make alterations of any trek / tour itinerary, prior notice is requested.

You are advised to stay in touch with us thus, but occasionally, you may be obliged to do so en route under certain circumstance for instance bad weather etc.

Your personal belongings:

On any account, we are not responsible for any loss or damage of your baggage / luggage or property even when it is shouldered by Eco Holiday Nepal  porters, yaks-ponies or vehicles.

That means your personal possessions; luggage might be at your risk at the times, and however our trip escorts and guides will provide necessary safety precautions that this does not arise while with us.

Papers & Documents:

All necessary documents should be presented in sequence for example to issue visa, obtain necessary permits etc. We are not accountable in case of any trip formality not completed in time before the trip departure on the absence of essential papers and documents.

Risk & Responsibility:

Assuring your complete safety and satisfaction which is our main responsibility and concern, we therefore carry out our service sincerely & earnestly ensuring a hassle free holiday.

Nevertheless, unless stated otherwise, trip may change under uncertain and inherent circumstances such as land-slides, road block, floods, heavy snow, political unrest, cancellation of flight, delay arrival, sickness or accidents etc. Any extra cost incurring there is your personal responsibility and should be borne on the spot.

Trek / Tour Grades information:

Leisure tours or walking trips:

For any physically fit of all ages with sound health, these trips involves short walking days of few hours and more of tour with scenic drives at places of interest.  The whole trip goes from 4-5 to 8 days on trek or scenic tour.

On rafting for a day or two days.

Moderate Trips:

For any physically fit of all ages that have done normal walk and with sound health. These trips involves few ups and down and the length of treks will be from 4-5 hours of walk every day with plenty of break in between. The whole trip goes from 2-5 to 8 days.

Adventurous Trips:

For physically fit person of all ages with sound health who have done moderate to vigorous walk or activity before or at present. These kind of treks involves long ups and down and the length of treks will be from 6-7 hours of walk every day with break in between. The whole trip goes from 10 to 20 days in the high altitude. On Rafting it involves river expedition for 7 -10 days.
