The “Munich-Venice” long-distance cycle path connects cycling pleasure and crossing the Alps to the Adriatic Sea. Active pleasure cyclists can experience three countries with their tourist regions and many outstanding natural and cultural beauties on cycle paths, bike routes or small side roads. “Munich-Venice” leads from the Isar metropolis, the Bavarian lakes and rivers over the Tyrolean Inn Valley, over old railway lines, relaxed through the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Dolomites and Treviso to the Doge Palaces and Canals of the lagoon city of Venice.

Day 1

Individual arrival to Munich

Individual arrival at the starting hotel in Munich. If you arrive early, use the time to explore the capital of the Free State of Bavaria. If you arrive during the Oktoberfest 20.09-05.10.2025, you will spend the night in Bad Tölz
Always along the Isar you leave Munich. It goes past monasteries, through Bavarian villages and through the Isar floodplains to the rafting town of Bad Tölz with its worth seeing old town.
From Bad Tölz, continue along the Isar to Sylvensteinsee. You cross the German-Austrian border through the Karwendel Nature Park and reach the Achensee vacation region and the mountain lake of the same name. If you wish, you can take a boat trip on the Achensee. Overnight stay depending on availability in Jenbach/Schwaz.
From Jenbach or Schwaz, cycle along the well-developed cycle path along the River Inn to Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol. Stroll through the historic old town, visit the famous Golden Roof or take a trip to the Bergisel with its ski jump or the Bergisel Museum, which commemorates the battles on the Bergisel under the supreme command of freedom fighter Andreas Hofer. The first challenging section of today's route from Innsbruck to the Brenner Pass, the border between Austria and Italy and at the same time the watershed and cultural axis, is covered by train transfer (cycling on the main road is not recommended due to the constantly increasing volume of traffic). Only a few buildings remain as reminders of the former border. From Brenner you cycle along the old railroad line to the Fugger town of Sterzing and on to Franzensfeste and Mühlbach.
From Mühlbach, a well-maintained cycle path leads through the Pustertal valley, past the Mühlbacher Klause, a former border post. This once formed an ancient gateway between the provinces of Rhaetia and Noricum. Along the river Rienz you reach Bruneck. We recommend a visit to the folklore museum in Dietenheim, which documents rural life in South Tyrol, culture and customs. From Brunico you cycle on the cycle path along the river Rienz to Dobbiaco, your stage destination today. After you have already spent a few kilometers on the saddle, we offer you a bike pit stop in Dobbiaco to check your bike.
Today you follow the cycle path on the former Dolomite railroad through the Höhlensteintal valley past Lake Dobbiaco and the war cemetery, which commemorates the First World War. Shortly after, a unique panoramic view of the rock formation of the Three Peaks opens up before you reach Lake Dürrensee. Slightly ascending, the bike path leads to the border of the two provinces of Bolzano and Belluno. Now you roll leisurely downhill on the former railroad line and reach the Dolomite town of Cortina d'Ampezzo with its fantastic mountain scenery. The view of the Sorapis mountain range on the left and the rock formation of the Five Towers (Cinque Torri) on the right is a steady, gentle descent - for the most part still on the former railroad line. Through the Boite Valley you continue south to the Pieve / Calalzo di Cadore junction.
On the newly built bike path we go to Longarone. This town was rebuilt in a very short time after it was flooded by a tidal wave in 1963 following a rock fall into the reservoir. The route continues to Conegliano.
You leave the Alps behind and cycle through the plain to Treviso. Along the way you will be able to admire the villas of the Italian master builder Palladio, who built his magnificent buildings here, in the immediate sphere of influence of the maritime power of Venice. On the home stretch towards the Adriatic Sea, the river Sile will be your companion to Venice mainland, from where you can set out for an extensive exploration of the Serenissima with all its magnificent buildings.
