Imagine a morning in the mountains. Experiencing first rays of the morning sun as the grey outlines of the peaks start to adapt a serene tinge of orange-pink as the rays begin to get brighter and brighter. Sounds impressive, right? Well, the place we have been talking about is Poon Hill, Nepal's most famous place to watch unimaginably beautiful sunrises in all of the Himalayas. Want to see it by yourself? It's your lucky day! As we, Himalayan Planet Adventure is bringing you a nine-day trip package featuring Poon Hill Trek around Annapurna Himalayas.

The package is short, crisp as well as eventful trip taking a total of five actual trekking days. Moreover, the total package also features a day to explore Kathmandu as well as to spend some time in Pokhara, the beautiful lakeside city nestled deep in the Annapurna Mountains of the Mighty Himalayas.

What would this trip actually add to your life? Well, let's start with the unique mountain culture of the Gurung. They are the people who have been living and thriving in the land for over 1000 years. Next, you can count on world heritage, ancient temples, and palaces. We can conclude by answering this question by advising you to go for a trek in the Poon Hill around the Annapurna. It is in its real sense what you need to detox yourself from the regular stressful city life.

Tour program

Day 1

Arrival In Kathmandu

Collect your Nepali visa after your arrival at the Tribhuvan International airport of Kathmandu. Our spokesperson from Himalayan Planet Adventure will be waiting for you at the airport itself, and upon receiving, you will drop you in the hotel in a private car.

Upon freshening up, you will be greeted in the main office of Himalayan Planet Adventures. Here you will meet the staff as well as your guide for your Poon Hill Adventure. Afterward, the evening of your 1st day in Kathmandu will be planned, particularly with the display of Nepali dances and songs. Finally, you will get to taste the exotic cuisine of Nepal. Eventually, we will return you to your hotel for night stay.

Day 2

Exploring Kathmandu Valley

So it is your day 2 in Nepal as well as your first active day of the tour. Now, what better way to start off the journey than visiting the famous Kathmandu Valley? This culturally significant piece of hill resides in the western region of Kathmandu city. Kathmandu Valley can best be described as the musical wonder consisting of both natural enrichments and mythical ancient structures. This is a goldmine of tourist attractions. Thus we will start from the Kathmandu Valley and end up with the destinations nearby if not in the territory of the valley itself.

Moreover, today we will be focusing on three of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Nepal, which will include:

Kathmandu Durbar Square – We start at Kathmandu Durbar Square, where the kings of Nepal were enthroned for centuries. Kathmandu Durbar Square the legendary royal palace is the home of the famous Kumari, the living goddess which you may have an opportunity to see. Along with that you will find approximately, 60 temples here. Yes, she's real, and she comes out to bless the people at certain times of each day. Most of the temples here date back several hundred years, and therefore, the temples are protected as national heritage sites.

Swayambhunath Stupa – Upon visiting Kathmandu Durbar Square next, we will pay a visit to Swayambhu (also known as Monkey Temple). It is probably the most heavenly place in the Kathmandu Valley, and it is also the most antiquated holy site. Situated on a prominence overlooking the Kathmandu Valley, Swayambhu is over 2500 years old. Despite being mostly a Buddhist holy place, it is also a unique synergy of Buddhism and Hinduism, as you will only find in Nepal.

Bhaktapur – In the afternoon, we will travel by private vehicle to the next UNESCO World Heritage Site, the city of Bhaktapur. Located in the east corner of Kathmandu Valley, Bhaktapur is also known as the City of Devotees. This site can fairly be described as a city suspended in ancient times. Not only the temples, residential houses, and the architectural intricacy but also the lifestyle of the inhabitants are quite traditional and transudes the very essence of ancient Nepali religious culture. It holds its own Durbar Square with the renowned 55 windows Royal Palace. Each window is masterfully carved. There are mainly two temple areas to explore, which includes the tallest temple in the Kathmandu Valley. There are also narrow alleyways to walk where you see craftsmen doing crafts and pottery as they have done for centuries.

In the evening, you will return to your hotel for the night and prepare your luggage for next day departure.

Day 3

Travel To Pokhara

Now on the 3rd day, our journey will begin the drive-by luxury bus from Kathmandu to Pokhara. And we tell you what; it'll be a drive to remember. One of the best highlights of this journey is the Trisuli river valley. Now you must know that the Thrishuli River puts for a beautiful destination to get an Ultimate River rafting and fishing experience from the banks.

On your way to Pokhara, you will cross the Mugling, which is one of the busiest highways of Nepal. Surely, you will be amazed upon watching such majestic picturesque beauty of the valleys and mountains. Next, upon reaching Pokhara, you will find that the place is full of creeks and pools. Located in the southern region of the valley, Phewa Lake is one of the most magnificent lakes you will ever have the privilege to gaze at. After checking in the hotel, you are free to experience the abundance of tourist experiences this city has to offer.

[Please note: Those who take the deluxe trip will fly to Pokhara, giving you a day to explore all of the fantastic sites that the city has to offer.]

Day 4

Trek To Ulleri

The fourth day of this trip will mark the beginning of our trekking expedition. In the morning, we go by private vehicle to Nayapol, where the trek begins. Next, we will trek to the village of Ulleri. It's about a five-hour trek. These trails will have flagstone steps placed by the local Village Development Committees for the ease of the residents who use these trails as their "highways." You will also see mule trains with their jingling bells bringing goods in and out of the mountains. As we have risen 860 meters from the time we have left Nayapol. There are sharp cliffs that we will walk along, as well as see some magnificent mountain scenery along the way. In the evening, we will take the time and explore the village of Ulleri, which is a charming place. And for the night, we will check into the village of Ulleri itself.

Day 5

Trek To Ghorepani

As the dawn brings a new day with it, we will get ready and leave Ulleri after breakfast and head for the next stoppage, the village of Ghorepani. As we start the climb, it will reveal even more of the astonishing mountains of the Annapurna Region. It is the home to the 10th highest mountain in the world (Annapurna I, 8061 m). We finally arrive after a 5 to 6-hours trek to Ghorepani, where we stop for the night. This place was once on the main salt route to Tibet. And it also used to be a stop for the merchants, hundreds of merchants used to stop here, let their horses have water, and get ready for the journey ahead. Hence the name Ghorepani is given, which translates for horses and water. Explore this beautiful little Gurung village with its unique stone houses and fertile terraced fields.

Day 6

Poon Hill & Trek To Ghandruk

Finally, this is the day we were talking about in the intro. Today we will make our way from Ghorepani to Poon Hill for the latest sunrise of your life! Of course, we leave when it's still dark; using our flashlights as the sources for lights, we will walk about for 45 minutes to the top. You will stand in awe as you behold the dark skies lighten, and the first sun rays of the day fill the landscape with a sweet golden tinge.

Moreover, the sparkling white snow will be the cherry on top. After experiencing the sunrise, we will return to our tea house in Ghorepani to have breakfast and collect our belongings. Today we will be moving to the Gurung village of Ghandruk, which will be an eight-hour journey. It will mainly be a long day as we travel through the deep gorges, colorful wildflowers, and picturesque villages. Ghandruk is a significant Gurung community where we will spend the night.

Day 7

Trek To Nayapul, Drive To Pokhara

Okay, this will be the last day of our trekking excursion. It will mostly be the descent of climb down as we make our way back to Nayapol. It will take approximately four hours to arrive at Nayapol. There we will be making the return trip to Pokhara via car. And finally, after so many days with little sleep and increased hardships, you will get a good, long, hot shower and a cozy good night sleep on a soft bed in a hotel fitting room.

Day 8

Return To Kathmandu

Today we will be leaving for Kathmandu on a first-class bus soon after taking our morning brunch. We will leave the vast ranges of mountains and those beautiful valleys as we will be heading towards Kathmandu. Moreover, we reverse the route we took just a few days ago as we leave the beautiful lakeside city of Pokhara and the Annapurna Mountains behind. In the evening, you will be rewarded with a farewell dinner arranged by us to conclude the trip in a high note altogether.

[Please Note: Those taking the deluxe trip will fly back to Kathmandu. Spend the day exploring or just resting in the capital city before enjoying the farewell dinner in the evening.]
