Itinerary

A soft adventure experience combining the tour of an archeology findings of the Country and a stay in a “off the beaten track” simple Resort in Ulu Muda Forest a pristine and relatively unknown gem.

Tour program

Day 1

Overland Penang – Bujang Valley – Alor Star (148 km)

Depart from Penang to the renowned Bujang Valley. Upon arriving at Bujang Valley, be amazed by the wonders of Malaysia’s earliest civilization at the Lembah Bujang Archeological Museum that serves evidence of a vibrant trading centre of a prosperous kingdom that once existed.


Visit the bustling Pekan Rabu or Wednesday Market (which interestingly, is open daily) in Alor Star. Enjoy a panoramic view of the Straits of Malacca and the vast expanses of paddy fields from the Alor Star Tower. Explore Masjid Zahir, Balai Besar or Balai Penghadapan, Balai Nobat, and Kedah Royal Museum. In the Rice Museum (Muzium Padi) to learn how Kedah produces the largest rice harvest in the country. 

Day 2

Overland Alor Star – Ulu Muda Rainforest [B, L, D]

Enjoy your 1½ hrs journey with a traditional long-tailed boat to Earth Lodge, Ulu Muda.

Visit Sira Bonggor or Sira Keladi, for a good introduction to trekking in the rainforest. If you are lucky, you could spot the Asian elephant, guar, tapir, deer, wild boar Malayan tiger, panther, clouded leopard amongst others. Relax with a river cruise in search of wildlife.  (Sightings of wildlife are not guaranteed).

Day 3

In Ulu Muda Rainforest [B, L, D]

Experience a two-hour relatively easy trek through the pristine jungle to Bukit Labu (Labu Hill), a newly discovered limestone hill with several caves. 

Enjoy a simple lunch by a cool, wide stream and a casual walk, in search of Ulu Muda’s abundant avifauna and other wildlife. Ulu Muda is listed by Birdlife International as an important bird watching area. A home to many rare and globally threatened bird species includes the very rare Plain –pouched Hornbill, Masked Finfoot, and the Argus Pheasant, Ulu Muda has recorded sightings of over 300 species of birds and is still counting!

Day 4

In Ulu Muda Rainforest [B, L, D]

Take a short boat ride to Kuala Batu salt lick, on-route, visit the wild honey collection area where you may see honey collectors climbing up Tualang trees that can reach up to 85 meters harvesting honey in a traditional method that is sustainable for both the honey collectors and the bees.

Enjoy lunch by the Muda. Take a dip in the water or relax.  Journey back to the Lodge floating along the river on inflated rubber tubes. A quiet and relaxing way to travel that gives you a better chance of spotting wildlife. The rest of the afternoon is free at leisure.

At night, go for another river cruise in search of wildlife.

Day 5

Ulu Muda Rainforest – Kuala Kedah Jetty [B, L]

Visit the Ayer Hangat Hot Spring Saltlick before returning to Muda Lake Jetty and Kuala Kedah Jetty to board your ferry to Langkawi.

Cancelations made 60 days or less prior to arrival:  subject to cancellation fee (by the hotel)

Cancellations made 30 days or less prior to arrival: subject to 50% cancellation fees.

Cancellations made 21 days or less prior to arrival: subject to 75%  cancellation fees.

Cancellations made 14 days or less prior to arrival: subject to 100% cancellation charge.

No Show/ Shorten Stay: subject to 100% cancellation charges.

 


Do note that Cancellation fees are levied by Asian Overland Services in cases where charges arise from outside contractors or where actions taken extend beyond reservation for tours and hotel accommodation. Charges are levied at the sole discretion of Asian Overland Services for operation planning, consulting and ancillary expenses relating to development of services of a specialized nature.


General PAYMENT Term

Non-refundable deposits may be required for certain product (program involving Selingan Island and Mountain Climbing), or if travel during high season. A deadline to make deposit payment will be advice upon booking confirmation.

Full Payment is required to be made for all services at least 30 days before travel period, or by the given dateline.

Accommodation

4 nights lodging 

Alor Setar - Raia Hotel Alor Star (1 night)

Earth Lodge, Ulu Muda (3 night) - Chalet style accommodation with two single mattresses, attached bathroom with sit toilet, balcony, and ceiling fan. There is no water heater, bath towels or toiletries. 

Transport

  • Transport to/from destinations included as per itinerary.
  • 1-way ferry ticket Kuala Kedah - Langkawi (unguided). 

Insurance

Insurance is not included. Travel insurance is required for this tour. Please make sure you are adequately covered.
