Start early in the morning, ensuring you arrive at the meeting point on time to catch the local transportation to Thethi.
The trip will depart from either Tirana or Shkodra, depending on your starting location. The group will travel with shared transportation provided by our partners.
Travel to Thethi:
As you drive towards northern Albania, the landscape becomes increasingly rural and more picturesque, with fewer cars and more stunning nature. This area is famous for its cultivation of medicinal herbs due to its ideal climate and terrain.
The road to Thethi is winding and steep, reaching up to 1700 meters above sea level at Qafa e Thores, a scenic pass offering panoramic views of the Albanian Alps. Here, you'll have opportunities for photo stops or a coffee break while admiring the breathtaking scenery.
Arrival in Thethi Village
Lunch at the Guesthouse:
Upon arrival in Thethi Village, enjoy a traditional lunch at the guesthouse, where you’ll be able to relax and enjoy the local flavors in this serene mountain setting.
Free Time:
After lunch, you will have some free time to relax or explore the village before beginning your hiking adventure.
Hike in Thethi Village
Start the Hike:
Thethi is a remote village in the heart of the Albanian Alps and is known for its stunning and rather inaccessible location. Many writers have been inspired by its beauty and tranquility, and it still maintains a traditional, authentic atmosphere.
As you begin the hike, you'll explore the picturesque village. The houses, or ‘kulla’, are made of grey stone and roofed with wooden planks, and they exude a rustic charm. These structures, together with the village’s natural beauty, make Thethi one of Albania's most captivating destinations.

The Church:
Visit the charming church of Thethi, which is an integral part of the village’s history and religious life.
Kulla e Ngujimit (Tower of Refuge):
Discover the Kulla e Ngujimit, a tower house that was used in the past as a shelter against vendettas. This historical structure provides a glimpse into the difficult and violent past of this remote region.
Thethi Waterfall:
Continue your hike to Thethi Waterfall, one of the most impressive natural features of the area. Here, you can enjoy the beautiful sounds and views of the cascading water.
Grunasi Canyon:
Reach the Grunasi Canyon, where you can peer at the rocky narrows from the wooden bridge of Grela. The canyon offers dramatic views and a chance to marvel at the landscape.
Stonewalled Terraces: Near the canyon, you’ll also find stonewalled terraces, dating back to the late Bronze Age. These terraces were only revealed in 2007 and offer a glimpse into the village’s long history.
Return to the Guesthouse
After completing the hike, return to the guesthouse and enjoy some free time to relax and unwind.
