Itinerary
Deep green islands. A mild sub-tropical climate. Rich coastal waters filled with hundreds of whales and dolphins. The Azores Islands are a paradise of scenic landscapes and outdoor adventures, tucked away in the mid-Atlantic – waiting for your discovery.
A mixture of picturesque villages and protected lakes, hills, and forests, this 9-island archipelago is part of Portugal but with its history, identity, and laid-back lifestyle. We’re always close to the land, the sea, the hills, and the adventures they bring. Life here is on island time – perhaps a bit slower than you’re used to… but we like it. There are no traffic jams or stress – just the hills, forests and an endless ocean.
That's why we built this 5 days itinerary that will allow you to explore the hidden gems of the biggest island of the Azores archipelago. A hiking focused itinerary for those looking to wander around whilst immersing themselves on our nature. The itinerary includes 5 days of activities (4 walking tours + 1 sightseeing and relaxing) as well as accommodation at a 3* hotel with breakfast included.

Day 2
Serra Devassa & Grota do Inferno
This full-day adventure will allow you to discover the volcanic complex of Sete Cidades on a different path,
but always including the most emblematic sites. This hike is challenging, but the landscapes are incredible with hidden lakes, aqueducts, and water springs, all surrounded by endemic vegetation. It will lead us to the highest point of Sete Cidades: Pico das Éguas.
This 10 km, circular trail starts at Muro do Carvão, where our guides will tell you about the places of interest that we will visit during the day. Hiking through Serra Devassa, we will have the chance to see Lagoa do Caldeirão, pass by the Pico das Éguas, Lagoa das Éguas and Lagoa do Canário. There, it will be time for a break to have our light meal.
Have you already heard about the Grota do Inferno viewpoint? It is one of the most famous places in São
Miguel island. We will go there and then continue along Canario springs to reach Serra Devassa back. Taking a
different route, we will be able to see another lake, Lagoa Rasa, and enter the area of Lagoa das Empadadas to go back to the starting point.
Day 3
Hiking Tour Fogo Lake (7hours)
This tour will take you to one of São Miguel's most beautiful lakes: Fogo Lake. It is a complete experience full of landscapes, History, and nature. The path to Lagoa do Fogo runs through a great variety of native and endemic vegetation and offers the opportunity to enjoy the lake from a less famous but as well wonderful perspective. You will discover the story behind the water springs and the old ruins of the flax factory, which produced materials and fabric from it. The walk is around 11km long and could be quite challenging with its way up and down to reach the lake, but the effort is worth it all! At the end of the day, a stop at Agua d'Alto beach or Caloura could be made to refresh ourselves with a swim in the ocean.
Day 4
Van Tour Furnas (7 hours)
On this full day tour, you will feel and experience the volcanic origins of the island in Furnas, a magical place
full of geothermal activity. After the pick up in Ponta Delgada at 9am, we will start by a visit to the local tea factory Gorreana before reaching the viewpoint over Furnas: Pico do Ferro. You will definitely have to take
pictures for your album about the Azores. Then, we will go to the Caldeiras das Furnas to visit the famous
fumaroles and taste gasocarbonic mineral waters from different springs.
Passing by the Lagoa das Furnas, the local restaurant is our next stop to taste the famous “Cozido”, one of the
most emblematic dishes of the Azores. It is a mixture of regional vegetables and meats cooked with the help of volcanic activity. A gastronomic experience you cannot miss. This is a very special meal cooked only with the
steam of the Earth. After lunch, we will visit the centenary Terra Nostra botanical garden, famous for its extraordinary collection of native plants from the Azores, as well as others from all over the world that have adapted to the local conditions. At the end of the visit, you are invited to go for a dip in an iron-rich hot water swimming pool that has a temperature of 35-40ºC (95-104°F), a relaxing experience.
Day 5
Hiking Tour Salto do Cabrito (3 Hours)
This is a circular walk that starts next to the Caldeiras of Ribeira Grande. It is about 4km long and a relatively
easy walking route although it has some steep slopes. On this trail, our guide will give interesting information
about the water resources of São Miguel island. This is a great opportunity to be in contact with nature and at
the same time discover how it becomes very useful in our lives. The trail crosses all the fundamentally important sites of the Fajã Redonda Hydro Power Plant.
The first part of the trail is to descend on a dirt path with lush nature until you reach the Hydroelectric Power Station of Salto do Cabrito. This is where we will enjoy Salto do Cabrito waterfall and take some time to take pictures. Then we will go up some stairs with a very steep slope and on the way we will pass by an iron walkway. For those who fear heights, be prepared to overcome this challenge! However, it is a footpath that is very worth it because it is very close to the river and we really have the feeling that we are surrounded by nature.
Day 6
Hiking Tour Faial da Terra + Van Tour Nordeste
You can combine the adventure of one of the most beautiful hikes in São Miguel Island with a comfortable
van tour to Nordeste all in one experience. We will leave from Ponta Delgada in the direction of Faial da Terra. It is here that we will start our circular trail Faial da Terra – Salto do Prego, visiting as well a hidden village in the mountain, called Sanguinho. During the hike it will also be possible to refresh ourselves in the amazing waterfall Salto do Prego, especially during summer. After this wonderful hike, we will stop in the center of
Faial da Terra village to relax and enjoy the old whalers harbor, before we continue for the second half of the
day. The road will take us to various viewpoints on the coastline of Nordeste, a beautiful part of São Miguel
Island! We will visit the viewpoints of Ponta do Sossego and Vista dos Barcos.
Our last stop of the day will be in the Park of Ribeira dos Caldeirões where you will enjoy the sight of another
breathtaking waterfall, before going back to Ponta Delgada.
Day 7
Free Day
On this free day, you can take your time to shop for souvenirs or choose one of our optional tours.
At the scheduled time, we will transfer you from the hotel to the airport.

1. GENERAL NOTES:
1. All activities are done in a shared mode;
2. For these multi-day and multi-island activities in a private mode, a budget must be
solicited.
3. The order of the activities composing the multi-day experiences follows the availability of
our weekly structure.
4. The activities are done in Portuguese / English. For activities in other languages, the
services must be requested with time in advance, and it may be added an extra
percentage over the regular price.
2. OTHER SERVICES
1. Extra services, such as transfers or others from Futurismo, may be added on request and
prior consultation from Futurismo.
3. CANCELLATION POLICIY
1. In a shared mode, for up to 8 people, counting from the starting date (and hour) of the
first activity scheduled in experiences done exclusively in São Miguel or Pico:
1.1. Until 20 days before: free cancellation.
1.2. Until 10 days: 50% charge of the experience’s total.
1.3. Less than 7 days before the activity or no-show: 100% charge.
2. For private groups, counting from the starting date (and hour) of the first activity
scheduled:
2.1. Until 20 days before: free cancellation.
2.2. Until 10 days: 50% charge of the experience’s total.
2.3. Less than 7 days before the activity or no-show: 100% charge.
3. The activities release may be reviewed according to the specific characteristics of each
request, should these be in private mode or on-request.

Accommodation
The accommodation is included at a 3* hotel in Ponta Delgada, on a bed & breakfast basis.
On the arrival day, check-in is available from 15h00 (early check-in upon request with extra cost). On the check-out day, you must leave the room until 11h00.
Transport
All the activities include transportation by mini-van or bus, depending on the final number of participants of each tour.
Insurance
All the activities include personal liability insurance.
Flights
Flights are not included on this package.

Meals
The package includes breakfast at your accommodation as well as lunch during all the 5 days. On the hiking days, the lunch will be served as light meal on a picnic basis.
