Day 1

Arrival in Muscat

Today you board your flight to the Orient. Depending on your flight connection, you will reach Muscat in the evening or early morning of the following day.

Day 2

Sultan's Palace and Mutrah Souk

Oriental flair and modernity meet in Muscat. A first exploratory trip to the old center gives amazing insights. We visit the Great Mosque of Sultan Qaboos. We then start our walk to the Sultan's Palace. This is surrounded by the two forts Mirani and Jalali, which once guarded the bay and harbor of Muscat. The Riyam Park offers a beautiful view of the harbor. From here we take a leisurely walk over a hill and through a wadi to the Mutrah Souk. After a short break, we have the opportunity to visit the souk, which is filled with the scent of incense. Day 3

From Muscat to the Jebel Shams

We leave Muscat and pass the fishing village of Seeb. Finally, we reach the oasis of Nakhl at the foot of Jebel Akhdar. The fort with its countless protrusions and corners is well worth seeing. We continue through a landscape of bizarre beauty to Wadi Bani Auf. With its striking watercourse between palm trees, the rocky gorge looks like an ideal movie set. The village of Bilad Sayt with its terraced fields is reminiscent of Yemen. Day 4

Hike Oman's Grand Canyon

Today we are going high up! We drive by off-road vehicle to the "plateau", which lies at an altitude of 1,950 meters. Our hike on Jebel Shams begins there. Maybe we'll be lucky and see vultures circling in the wind. The breathtaking views of the wadis, which lie around 1,500 meters below, make us forget the time. We follow the canyon, treat ourselves to a picnic in the midst of the quasi-alpine nature of Arabia and cross a few plateaus. Day 5

On foot along the canyon

Together with our local guide, we set off in an off-road vehicle to the starting point of our hike: the village of Al Khitaym. We follow an old mule track right next to the canyon. We will certainly remember the magnificent views. Finally, we reach an old town built into the rocks. The sheltered location and good water supply once prompted the inhabitants to settle here. Today, a few families still live there. They cultivate their gardens and stone terrace fields with watermelons, onions and tomatoes and keep goats. After the hike, we descend to Jabrin. The palace with its beautifully decorated windows and wooden galleries is one of the most beautiful in the country. Day 6

Hike with a view of the Wadi Muhaydin

Nizwa has played a central role in both the history and religion of Oman. We get to know the old capital on a tour. After the Julanda kings converted to Islam here, the city became the preferred place for the election of the Imam. The towering fortress and the colorful souk are impressive even from a distance. We then drive to Birkat al-Mauz, a place that has retained the atmosphere of an oasis town to this day. You start today's hike in Al Aqor. Your path leads you along terraced fields, through original mountain villages and past fossil sites with impressive views of the Wadi Muhaydin. At the end of the hike in Sayq there is a rose water distillery. We change to off-road vehicles ─ and continue to the Wahiba Sands desert. Day 7

Oasis in the desert

Oman is one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world ─ not least because of its high proportion of desert. Not far away is probably the most beautiful wadi in Oman: the Wadi Bani Khalid. We make our way along narrow paths along small watercourses until we reach pools of clear water between rounded rocks. We continue our way to the Muqil Cave and those who wish can enjoy a dip in the pleasantly cool water afterwards. After a picnic in the wadi, we return to the desert. What a contrast! Day 8

Across the desert

The off-road vehicles first take us to the coast. The Indian Ocean awaits us with lagoons and salt flats as well as an almost unbelievable abundance of bird species. On a walk, we breathe in the salty air and listen to the waves. Later, we drive to the port of Shannah and take a ferry to the island of Masirah. 350 km (F, P, A) approx. 1 hr.

Day 9

Masirah Island explorations

We will explore large parts of the island, which is particularly known for its pristine and secluded beaches, on relaxed trails. We have time to swim and are sure to spot one or two animals. Whales feel at home off the coast, as do sea turtles. In the evening, enjoy the sunset against a scenic and undeveloped backdrop. (F, A) ICON_DURATION approx. 1.5 hrs.

Day 10

Seafarers and turtles

We leave Oman's largest island and make our way back to the mainland. Sur, a former seafaring town, welcomes us with a fantastic panorama. We discover the town with its picturesque harbor and head to Ras Al Jinz in the evening, where nature guides accompany us to the beach and, with a bit of luck, we may see turtles laying their eggs. Day 11

Hike to the Falaj canals

Our destination today is two of the most beautiful wadis in Oman: the expansive Wadi Tiwi and the wild Wadi Shab, which lives up to its name "gorge between the cliffs" with its rocky outcrops, lush vegetation and cool water and is an almost oriental "picture book landscape". In both valleys, we will take a short hike to the Falaj canals. These are probably one of the most unusual UNESCO World Heritage Sites. They have been supplying people in the oasis valleys with fresh water from the mountains for over 1,000 years. 280 km (F, P, A) ICON_UP 400 m, ICON_DOWN 500 m, ICON_DURATION approx. 2 hrs.

Day 12

Farewell to Oman

This eventful trip ends at Muscat airport with the return flight to your home country.
