Itinerary

On your 18-day Island Peak Expedition, you will not only summit the magnificent Island Peak but also trek through the most sought-after Everest region. Island Peak, also known as Imja Tse in Nepalese, is a popular choice among amateur climbers who want to start their mountaineering journey by summiting Island Peak before moving on to other peaks. The mountain was named "Island Peak" in 1952 A.D. because of its striking location in the middle of the Chhukung Valley, resembling an island in an icy sea. Island Peak has an impressive, highly glaciated west face that rises from the Lhotse Glacier, which is difficult to climb. However, the spectacular views from the summit are certainly a fitting reward for your efforts.

Highlights of the Island Peak Expedition are:

● Jaw-dropping views of many 7000 m+ peaks.

● Explore the culture, tradition, and lifestyle of Sherpas.

● Visit the biggest monastery in the Everest region, Tengboche Monastery.

● Encounter different endangered flora and fauna.

● Explore the Khumbu icefalls and glaciers.

Tour program

Day 1

Arrival in Kathmandu

Welcome to Kathmandu, Nepal!

When you arrive at the airport, our Aisan Heritage Treks and Travels representative will meet you with a sign or board displaying our company's name. They will collect your luggage and direct you to our private vehicle, which will transport you to your hotel. On your way to your hotel, you'll pass by the Open Cremation Place (Pashupatinath temple), the Royal Palace Museum, also known as Narayanhity, the Garden of Dreams, and Thamel. Your hotel will be located downtown in the tourist district.

Our representative will assist and discuss your travel plans. There will be enough time to wander the streets of Thamel.

Accommodation: an overnight stay at Yatri Suites & Spa or a similar hotel.

Start point

Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) त्रिभुवन विमानस्थल, त्रिभुवन विमानस्थल, Kathmandu, Bagmati, Nepal

Day 2

Flight to Lukla (2,800m) and trek to Phakding (2,652m)

You will fly from Tribhuvan International Airport to Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla, Solukhumbu. The flight takes you over the Himalayas, providing a breathtaking panoramic view of the higher mountains, including the famous Mt. Everest, which stands out with its snow-covered peak in all its glory. When we arrive at the airport, the Sherpa (local people) crew will unload our trekking equipment, and our guide will brief you and introduce our porters before we start our trek to Phakding.

Accommodation: an overnight stay in available local lodges in Phakding.

Day 3

Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m)

After breakfast, you will walk through beautiful pine forests and along the Dudh Koshi River, wrapping up your nature-filled journey in Namche Bazaar. After walking for nearly an hour, you will see the gleaming Mt. Tamserku (6,608m) on your right, as well as the tranquility of pine, fir, and juniper forests along the way. If the weather is clear, you might even see Mt. Everest peering over the Lhotse-Nuptse ridge.

Continue walking until you reach the entrance to Sagarmatha National Park, Namche Bazaar, the gateway to Mount Everest, and the region's main trading center. On that day, you will cross five suspension bridges, the last of which, known as the Hillary Bridge, is the highest. It is an uphill walk from Hillary Bridge to Namche Bazaar.

Accommodation: an overnight stay in an available local lodge.

Day 4

Acclimatization at Namche Bazaar

Namche Bazaar is also called the Sherpa Capital. You can spend your time acclimating, relaxing, and exploring the surrounding areas. Most trekkers prefer to wake up before sunrise to take in the breathtaking views of Mount Everest, Thamserku, Amadablam, and other majestic peaks in Sagarmatha National Park. One can truly appreciate the magnitude of the mountains by observing the shadows they cast on the clouds above. As an energy source, try salt-butter tea and champa, a type of barley commonly consumed by Sherpas in the region.

Accommodation: an overnight stay in an available local lodge at Namche Bazar.

Day 5

Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,870m)

After breakfast, we will begin our trek toward Tengboche. The Everest Expedition Trail is a winding, smooth path that leads you up through a thick rhododendron forest to a fantastic view of Mount Everest (8,848m), Thamserku (6,618m), and Amadablam Peak (6,856m), which is located exactly on the east side of Mt. Everest. You will almost certainly encounter the Himalayan flora and fauna. Tengboche is well-known for its Buddhist monastery (where visitors can attend the daily puja ceremony) and viewpoint. After arriving in Tengboche, take a good rest at a local lodge.

Accommodation: an overnight stay in an available local lodge at Tengboche.

Day 6

Tengboche to Dingboche/Pheriche (4,360m)

In the morning, we will go to the Tengboche monastery. The trail then descends through the evergreen forest to Debuche, crosses the Imja River, and ascends to Pangboche. In addition, we plan to visit the Pangboche monastery. Then we descend into the river and begin the ascent to Dingboche, where we will spend the night.

Accommodation: an overnight stay in an available local lodge at Dingboche.

Day 7

Dingboche to Lobuche

We'll start our trek and follow the trail to Everest Base Camp. The climb from Thukla to Memorial Park is the most difficult part of the Everest Base Camp trekking trail. This route includes points that provide breathtaking views of nature's beauty. Many brave mountaineers have left prayer flags along the way. When you reach Lobuche (the second-highest village on the EBC trail), you can spend the night there.

Accommodation: an overnight stay in an available local lodge at Lobuche.

Day 8

Trek to Everest Base Camp (5,365m) then Returning Back to Gorakshep (5,180m)

Because of the climate at that altitude, the trail to Gorakshep is sparse. Along the way, the trail will be covered in snow. From this high viewpoint, you will have breathtaking panoramic views of Mt. Everest and its surrounding peaks.

We're ready for some well-deserved rest now that we've arrived in Gorakshep. However, if you are feeling particularly energetic, you can also visit Everest Base Camp on the same day. An incredible view of the Khumbu Glacier Valley will provide visitors with an unforgettable view of nature in its purest form.

Accommodation: an overnight stay in an available local lodge at Gorakshep.

Day 9

Hike to Kala Patthar for the Sunrise View (5,450m) and Return to Dingboche

You'll leave early in the morning for your next destination, Kala Patthar, which stands at 5450 meters. This hike provides an excellent opportunity to witness the breathtaking sunrise from the mountaintop. From Kala Patthar, you can see Pumori Mountain, which stands just behind the rocky hills. Following the thrilling hike, you will return to Gorakshep for breakfast. Take some time to rest and recharge before beginning your descent to Dingboche, where you can expect a comfortable night's sleep.

Accommodation: an overnight stay in an available local lodge at Dingboche.

Day 10

Dingboche to Chukhung

Today, we will travel to Chhukung Valley via the Imja Khola Valley to enjoy a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains, particularly Lhotse's massive south wall. Along the way, we'll have the opportunity to see the region's unique flora and fauna, which will enrich our experience.

Accommodation: an overnight stay in an available local lodge at Chhukung.

Day 11

Chukhung to Island Peak Base Camp

The trek to Island Peak Base Camp is a challenging climb. We begin with a southward ascent and navigate through winding paths before following a stream. Our route then runs through the rough terrain of the Imja and Lhotse glacier moraines, finally revealing the majestic Island Peak.

Accommodation: an overnight stay at a camp.

Day 12

Pre-climb Training on Island Peak Base Camp

After breakfast, you will be trained in peak climbing techniques and how to use essential climbing gear such as an ice axe, climbing boots, crampons, harness, ascender, and more. While not required, this training session will be crucial in providing you with the skills and knowledge needed for the ascent ahead.

Accommodation: an overnight stay at a camp.

Day 13

Island Peak Base Camp to Island Peak Summit (6,189m)

We will get up early, around midnight, to have breakfast before beginning our climb. Given the possibility of strong winds, it is critical to reach the summit before noon. After taking in the breathtaking views from the summit, we will descend back to Island Peak Base Camp, ending our intriguing ascent.

Accommodation: an overnight stay at the Island Peak Base Camp.

Day 14

Island Peak Base Camp to Tengboche (3,985m)

Today, we will descend from Island Peak Base Camp to Tengboche through a picturesque trekking route that winds through diverse landscapes, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayan range along the way. We take a short break in Pangboche before continuing our journey to Tengboche, which takes about 2 to 3 hours.

Accommodation: an overnight stay at the available local lodge at Pangboche.

Day 15

Tengboche to Namche Bazaar

The trail starts with a gentle descent through a lush forest before crossing a suspension bridge over the Dudh Koshi River. Once across, the path ascends steeply to Namche Bazaar, a vibrant town that serves as the Everest region's gateway. On the way, you'll pass through quaint villages that provide glimpses into the local culture and lifestyle.

Accommodation: an overnight stay at the available local lodge at Namche Bazar.

Day 16

Namche Bazaar to Lukla

After breakfast, you will continue your journey through Chumoa, a lovely village, to have lunch. After lunch, you'll walk along the river to Phakding and then head to Lukla. After a few hours of walking, you'll arrive in Lukla, where you can relax and immerse yourself in the local culture and lifestyle. When we arrive in Lukla, we will reflect on our time together as a group as well as our personal achievements throughout each of the treks.

Accommodation: an overnight stay at the available local lodge at Lukla.

Day 17

Flight to Kathmandu

Take in the final views of the majestic mountains you've recently explored as you board the flight to Kathmandu, typically departing before 10 a.m. However, please note that the departure time may vary depending on weather conditions. Once you arrive in Kathmandu, our team will be waiting to transfer you to your hotel for some well-deserved rest and relaxation.
