Marangu Route is also known as the “Coca Cola” or “tourist” route. It is the easiest and shortest route to the summit. This is also the only route with the comforts of sleeping huts at every camp site with solar lights and comfortable beds. The huts are communal, and the huts have a sponge mattress, pillow and solar power. 5 Days Climbing via Marangu Route




There are 60 beds at both Mandara and Kibo Huts and 120 beds at Horombo Hut. Bathrooms and running water are available at the two lower huts, but at Kibo hut running water is not available because its dry camp.




All climbing groups, often from several countries around the world, share meals in dining huts providing a jovial and energetic atmosphere. 5 days marangu route




This route is usually done in 5 days but can be done in 6 days for better acclimatization. The extra day can be spent resting at Horombo or conduct nature walk to Zebra rock.

Tour program

Day 1

Arrive in Kilimanjaro international airport

Arrive anytime at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). We will arrange a private transfer from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) to your Hotel and Hotel is included, We will gather in the hotel for a pre-climb briefing and an equipment check. We will also confirm you have the appropriate mandatory medical coverage and travel insurance. The Kilimanjaro trekking begins and end at moshi.

Start point

Moshi, Kilimanjaro, Tanzania

09:00 - 10:00

After breakfast at your hotel, you will check out and depart to Marangu Gate. It’s about 1 hours drive from Moshi town, and a getaway point to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. You will be accompanied by mountain guides and crews all the way. After completed the registration process at the gate you will start trekking toward Mandara Hut as the first where you will spend your overnight. The walk will take you about 3 to 4 hours and you will cover an altitude of 1900 meters up to 2720 meters. Along the way you will have enough time to rest and have lunch before proceed with the trek while learning about the mountain history, vegetation and different species of wildlife found at the park such as birds and animals.  This will be your first day at this altitude, so it is strongly recommended you heed the following instructions from this point on:    Abstain from consuming alcohol and caffeine    Drink over 4 liters of bottled water daily (little by little, frequently)    Take a Diamox pill to help alleviate symptoms of altitude sickness. Most mountain climbers take Diamox in the morning, before they start their ascent, in order to reduce discomfort associated with altitude sickness. We recommend you consult your doctor prior to the trip in case of potential allergies.  Trekking from Marangu gate to Mandara Hut: Change in Elevation: Marangu Gate (1,860 m) — Mandara Hut (2,700 m) Hiking distance: 11 km Hiking time: 5–7 hours

After an early breakfast, you will depart from Mandara Hut and start trekking all the way up to Horombo Hut where you will spend your second night on the Mountain. A total of 11 km will be covered during the day that will take approximately six hours with an altitude rise up to 3720 meters. Along the way, you will enjoy the beautiful scenery of Mount Kilimanjaro that consists of the various landscapes such as a clear view of the snow-capped peak of Kibo and Mawenzi peak, forest and animals which together they will fill you with lifetime memories to cherish. During the trek, you will have time to break for lunch and learn about different and fascinating plant species found along the way such giant groundsels, lobelias. After hours of trek finally, late in the afternoon, you will arrive at the camp in time for your dinner, relaxation and overnight. Note:The acclimatization hike is an easy trek with a slight gain in altitude done in order to speed up the acclimatization process. You should take the acclimatization hikes very seriously. They help increase your chances of successfully summiting Kilimanjaro and save you from the consequences of altitude sickness Trekking from Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut: Change in Elevation: Mandara Hut (2,700 m) — Horombo Hut (3,720 m) Hiking distance: 10 km Hiking time: 5–6 hours Acclimatization hike: Change in Elevation: Horombo Hut (3,720 m) — Destination point en route to Kibo Hut (3,920 m) Hiking distance: 2.5 km Hiking time: 1–2 hours

Today serves as an acclimatization day. This should not be underestimated and greatly improves your chance of success in reaching the summit. After a relaxing breakfast, a 4 hour trek follows to the Zebra Rocks (4020m). The distinctive black and white stripes give the rock formation its name. On your return to Horombo Hut, a warm lunch will be waiting for you. You can relax in the afternoon and regain your strength for the hike the following day.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Included

Today, your trekking will cover approximately 9kms, and rise for about 1000 meters. This route will take you to the southern part, where on this path you will have last chance to fill up your water bottles at Maua River. This is the last point to collect fresh and usable water and lunch will be served. Then you will proceed trekking towards Mawenzi Ridge and into the dry terrain famously known as Saddle. The route itself is very steep consist of less vegetation, but despite that you will have a great view of cones of Mount Kilimanjaro. Late in the evening you will arrive at the camp for dinner and overnight at Kibo Huts. Today you’re advised after dinner to bed early as the next day you will depart in the midnight and head for the summit. Trekking from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut: Change in Elevation: Horombo Hut (3,720 m) — Kibo Hut (4,700 m) Hiking distance: 10 km Hiking time: 4–8 hours

Today is the summit day, you’re scheduled to wake up early in the morning around 23:00 hours. After breakfast, 30 minutes later you will trek for 13 hours and rise to an altitude of 1176 meters which will cover approximately 23kms. You’re expected to reach the summit before sunrise around 07:00, and today is considered to be the toughest day ever. During the trek you will pass by the rocky terrain followed by the switchbacks, and you will pass different points before reach the summit such as William’s Point 5131 meters, Hans Meyers Cave 5258 meters, and finally Gilman’s Point 5719 meters. After reaching the summit you will have short time to celebrate and take photos with friends and guides and congratulates yourself before start to descend to Kibo hut. Upon arrival at the camp you will have two good hours of rest followed by lunch, before set off again and continue to descend up to Horombo Hut where you will arrive in time for dinner and overnight. Note:Don’t forget that 90% of all accidents occur during the descent, including all broken arms and legs. Please pay attention to your feet, as there is a high risk of damaging your toenails. Trekking from Kibo Hut to Horombo Hut: Change in Elevation: kibo hut (4,700 m) — uhuru peak (5,895 m) — horombo hut (3,720 m) Hiking distance: 16 km Hiking time: 9–12 hour

DAY 5: HOROMBO CAMP – MARANGU GATE


The last stage passes through the heath and moor zone to the Mandara Hut (2700m) where a warm lunch is waiting for you. Soon, you will once again pass the tropical rainforest and after a total time of 6 hours trekking, you will be back at the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (1860m). After saying goodbye to your mountain guides, a short transfer follows to take you back to your hotel in Moshi. Once there, you can take a warm and relaxing shower and celebrate your success in reaching the summit of the Kilimanjaro.

The menu on Kilimanjaro is designed to ensure your food intake matches your level of exertion. It will provide you with a good balance of protein, carbohydrates, fruit and vegetables. When you are at altitude you could start to feel nauseous and your appetite may be suppressed, so the meals prepared at high altitude usually contain more carbohydrates and less protein to help you to digest your food.

Your meals will be prepared by your cooks on Kilimanjaro and the food will be carried by your porters.
