Itinerary
It is said that if you get the overall experience of Mount Everest itself, go on a trek to Gokyo Valley. Several trails lead to Mount Everest, but Gokyo is one of the bests among them. Gokyo valley has incredible scenic beauty, Sherpa village, scared lakes, and mountain streams. You will experience the true beauty of nature when the trail passes through the raging rivers, alpine forests, and massive glaciers. This trail sums up the journey to the Everest. Let’s have a look at how we will explore the king of the mountains:
Tour program
Arrival in Kathmandu
Early Flight to Lukla and Trek to Phakding village
It is early morning when we will start our journey to Lukla, the gateway to the Everest region. The flight will take 35 minutes to reach. We will get a magnificent view of snow-clad mountains as we will fly along the backbone of the eastern Himalayas. You will be able to see snowy peaks one after another as Mount Everest will be more visible on the horizon. We will collect our luggage at Lukla, and from here, our four-hour trek to the village of Phakding will start. This way is impressive, with some high suspension bridges crossing the Dudh Kosi River. Today’s most remarkable sight is of the triple snow-capped peak of Mt. Kusum Kanguru (20,890 Ft.). Along the way, there will be Manali walls; those are carved by the faithful Buddhists of the region. You will be able to explore the local culture of Phakding village.
Trek to Namche Bazar
Namche Bazar is the district city, and there are no roads that connect this village to anywhere in the world. To experience this land, you must walk around. This beautiful trail passes through the forests of pine and rhododendron with stunning views of Mount Thamserku. We will be able to see some charming Himalayan waterfalls. Next, we will enter Sagarmatha National Park in the village of Monjo. It’s time to move uphill to Namche bazaar, the largest Sherpa community in the Khumbu region. The gorgeous little city of Namche bazaar nestles at the lap of the Everest region. The trekking time is six hours. We will spend the night at a good hotel in Namche bazaar.
Acclimatization and exploration at Namche Bazaar
We take the process of acclimatization very seriously. Therefore we spend a day adjusting to higher altitudes of the Everest region. You can also visit the Sherpa Museum to get a glimpse of the amazing local culture and tradition. If we reach here on a Saturday, we can enjoy the weekly market day. This market is very colorful with Sherpa’s selling local goods, handicrafts, etc. If you want, you can also hike to the top of the hill to Everest View Hotel for a charming view of Mount Everest.
Trek to Dole Sherpa village
Our day will start with a delicious breakfast, and after that, we will start trekking to the village of Dole. You will be able to witness the mind-blowing scenery of Alpine mountain. From here, you will be able to get the breath-taking view of some highest peaks in the world, including Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and several others. We will see the terrace farms of Sherpa while walking past their villages. Dole village will be our destinations, and the trekking takes about 5-6 hours. It is a small village where we will spend our night.
Trek to Machhermo village
We will have to climb to Gokyo, and for that, we must cross the ridge to experience the beauty of Gokyo valley. This is also called the land of Yeti, the one that was allegedly seen here in 1974. You will be able to enjoy your night stay at a comfortable guest house. Our journey will continue to the beautiful Gokyo village from here.
Trek to Gokyo village
This region is the abode of some of the highest mountains in the world. Apart from Mount Everest, this trek offers a charming view of Mount Cho-Oyu, the sixth highest mountain in the world. It is a beautiful peak and the westernmost point of the Khumbu region. Here, we will be able to see three sacred lakes. Our guest house in Gokyo is on the third of the holy lakes. We will reach here, by noon and have lunch. For the rest of the day, you can explore the lake region located amid the glaciers of the Gokyo region. The trekking takes about 4 hours.
Trek to Gokyo Ri and explore Gokyo Lakes
Gokyo Ri is a trekking peak that gives you the most exquisite panoramic view of Mount Everest and other surrounding mountains. Early in the morning, we will start our journey so that we can enjoy the sunrise over the Eastern Himalayas. From here, you will see how the morning sun greets the day while scattering its own aura, and the mighty Mount Everest blushes in red. You will be able to witness how the color of the snow changes with time. You will definitely get charmed by the out worldly beauty of the mountain range and the Alpine forest. This is the day when we will explore the lakes. You will be able to see the reflection of the mountain on the mirror-like water surface of the lake. Besides this, we can explore the world’s most massive glaciers, Ngazumpa, from various viewpoints. This will definitely be a lifetime experience for you.
Trek back to Mongla Hill
On this day, we will trek back to Lukla, but we will follow a different route this time. This trail takes us to Mongla hill. It is a small place, and the trekking takes around 7 hours. The trail leads us through the forests of silver fir, pine, rhododendrons, and Mongolia trees. You will enjoy the serenity of the land with the sounds of birds chirping, some unknown wildflower blooming, and the cool breeze caressing your face.
Trek back to Jorsalle village
This time we will trek through the small villages. We will pass through the little village of Jorsalle. Though the trekking takes about 7-8 hours, the gorgeous scenic beauty will take away the tiredness from you.
Trek back to Lukla village
This is another long day, as we return to the region’s airport. It takes 7-8 hours to reach. The trail gives you the chance to meet with the people who had taken the route to Everest Base Camp. It is exciting how those who trek to Mount Everest base camp cannot see the summit of Mount Everest from the base camp. But, we had already witnessed the grand view of Mount Everest from the top of Gokyo Ri. In the evening, we will confirm our morning flight to Kathmandu to celebrate the last part of our journey.
Fly back to Kathmandu
Sometimes due to bad weather at Lukla, flights to Kathmandu are delayed. We have prepared an extra day into our schedule to avoid such problems. The Himalayan weather is fickle, and it changes frequently. Therefore, we try to book the earliest flights back to the capital city. Once we reach Kathmandu, you will be taken to a hotel. You can spend the rest of the day on your own. You can take a luxury hot bath, relax or even go shopping to collect souvenirs for the trip.
Rest in Kathmandu or Flight Reserve
This day is totally yours so that you can explore the land of the mountain on your own. On this day, you will get a chance to roam around and explore the Kathmandu valley. The best way to enjoy the beauty of the land is to walk around. This will allow you to get a glimpse of local people and their lifestyles, and this is the way you will get to know the culture and tradition of the community. This free day is actually kept for any inconvenience caused by the weather. You can visit UNESCO world heritage sites, or go shopping or just relax. In the evening, there will be a farewell dinner for you, where you will be able to enjoy the local cuisine. You can also share your experience with the Gokyo Trek experience with us.
Departure from Kathmandu
This is the time to leave. There are so many things to explore in Nepal that you may end up extending the time of your journey. It will be the happiest moment for us if you return with the best memories from the land of Himalayans.
