On our Small Group Walking Tour in the Amalfi Coast you are rewarded with stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea and Coastline whose rocky mountains rise nearly 5000 feet steeply from the deep blue sea. Wildflowers such as broom and cistus rose decorate the hillsides in Spring and cyclamen carpet the woods in Autumn.

The Amalfi coast has long been a favourite destination for the flamboyant lifestyles of the stylish Jet Set so it is hardly surprising to find out that Roman Emperor Tiberius moved his court to Capri, that the Russian dancer Rudolf Nureyev owned an island near Positano and American writer Gore Vidal chose Ravello for his home.

You might spend a couple of days beforehand in Naples, famous for coffee and pizza, masterpieces preserved inside the numerous churches around the city and the archaeological museum. Mt Vesuvius from its slumbering crater, observes the busy world passing by.

Tour program

Day 1

Meet at Naples Airport and travel to Pompeii & Paestum

Pick up at 13.00 at the Naples airport. Please make sure you have had lunch before we meet you as we will be going straight to Pompeii! Guided walk in the Ruins (3 hrs) of this fascinating and unique archaeological site. Life came to an abrupt halt with the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD and the entire roman city was completely buried for 1700 years. A scenic drive south follows along the bay of Salerno to Paestum where we stay overnight.

Meals: Dinner

Walk: 3 hrs in the archaeological Park ruins. Feels like 5km.

Note: We can also meet you directly at the entrance to Pompeii at 14.00 if you are already traveling in the area beforehand.

Start point

Aeroporto Internazionale di Napoli Capodichino Ugo Niutta (NAP), Viale Fulco Ruffo di Calabria, Napoli, Naples 80144, Italy

Paestum is an ancient Greco-Roman city, a little off the beaten path, 40 km south of Salerno and an excellent complement to Pompeii. Settled by Greek colonists in the 6th century BC, Paestum was by Greek-Lucanians, Romans and Christians. Malarial swamps led to the abandonment of the city in the 9th century AD, but also helped preserve its finest artefacts. Today, Paestum boasts three well-preserved Doric Greek temples, ruins of an ancient city and an excellent museum. The site is a little off the beaten path makes an excellent complement to the Pompeii.

Lunch is at a Buffalo Mozzarella farm. In the afternoon we take the famous Amalfi Drive to Ravello.

Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

Walk: 3 hrs/5 km; 2hrs in the archaeological park + 1hr uphill optional walk from Minori to Ravello — 1500 steps/stairs!!

Walk through lemon groves down to the tiny village of Atrani. Tour of Amalfi and the cathedral. Free time to explore and have lunch. Ride or walk back up to Ravello for a free afternoon to visit the Duomo and gardens of Villa Rufolo and Cimbrone whose magnificent location offers the best views of this beautiful coastline.

Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

Walk: +/- 350 mt / 3 hrs / 10 km

We take our first boat trip on the Amalfi coast to look out and admire the colorful houses and villages nestled in the coves and built high up on the hillsides.

Visit the sophisticated resort town of Positano, with its steep slopes and sweet-scented wisteria, smart boutiques selling lemon-themed ceramics, summer clothing and artisan leather sandals. There is plenty of time for Gelato ice-cream too, maybe even more than one!

We return to base to relax and enjoy a free evening.

Meals: Breakfast / Lunch

Walk: Town strolling

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, departing mid-morning in the minibus to reach the start of the Sentiero degli Dei or ‘Path of the Gods’, a majestic, rugged hiking trail overlooking spectacular coastal scenery which leads to the elegant resort of Positano. We put on our hiking boots to walk on a narrow, rocky path for about 5 hours including a break for a picnic lunch.

Walk: total elev. gain/drop +/- 500 m / 5 hrs. / Feels like14 km

We take a ferry to the Island of Capri, favored in ancient times by Roman emperors Augustus and Tiberius. Today the island is very popular with a labyrinth of charming alleys and gardens of aromatic flowers and shrubs if you take the time to go off the main drag!

Enjoy lunch in the Piccola Marina and then walk up to Capri. Weather permitting sail around the island in the emerald blue waters and through the faraglioni rocks.

The best way to enjoy Capri is to stroll and take in the atmosphere of the elegant boutiques and outdoor cafes in Capri’s main square and explore its alleys. We will not be the only tourists doing this but with a little care everyone can be a happy tourist!

We return by ferry and you can now relax and dine at your leisure.

Meals: Breakfast / Lunch

Walk: 3km; 2hrs strolling

From the hamlet of Scala above Ravello we walk into the ‘Valle delle Ferriere’ Natural Park through cleverly cultivated vineyards and lemon groves on steep, terraced hillsides.

After lunch, we enter the gorge and make our way past waterfalls, abandoned iron-works and paper mills as we descend into the bustling town of Amalfi for a well earned and thirst-quenching ‘sorbetto al limone’ in the heart of Amalfi.

We get together to celebrate our achievements and have dinner in the heart of Ravello.
