Itinerary
The Annapurna Himal, stretching 55 km (35 miles) entirely within Nepal, is renowned for its Annapurna Circuit, a relatively easy trail that circles the range. This trek is celebrated globally for its diverse terrain and rich cultural experiences, ranging from lush green foothills and charming Gurkha villages to arid, Tibet-like landscapes. The route passes through deep forests, dramatic gorges, and the high Thorung-La Pass, making the Annapurna region a premier destination for nature lovers.
This three-week trek begins at Besi Sahar, following the Marsyangdi River with views of Manaslu and Himal Chuli. The trail takes you through villages with a diverse mix of ethnic groups and offers breathtaking vistas of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Fishtail. With its rich flora and fauna, ever-changing mountain views, and trekker-friendly climate, the Annapurna Circuit provides a truly unforgettable experience.

Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) त्रिभुवन विमानस्थल, त्रिभुवन विमानस्थल, Kathmandu, Bagmati Zone, Nepal
Drive to BESI SAHAR (800m/2625ft)
The drive to Besi Sahar, the starting point of the Annapurna Circuit trek, takes about six hours along the Kathmandu-Pokhara highway. Besi Sahar, the headquarters of Lamjung, has long been a key starting point for this trek.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Trek to NGADI (900m/2953ft)
We trek towards Bhulbule, then continue up the east bank of the river. Along the way, we pass a stunning 60-meter waterfall surrounded by tropical pandanus trees and may spot langur monkeys playing in the treetops. The trail meanders through expansive rice terraces, offering ongoing views of Manaslu and Ngadi Chuli. Ngadi is approximately 3.5 km (2.2 miles) from Bhulbule. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Trek to JAGAT (1330m/4364ft)
Beyond Ngadi, approximately 6 km (3.5 miles) away, we reach Bahundanda, a large settlement of Hindu upper caste. Continuing, we arrive at Ghermu, about 5.5 km (3.4 miles) from Bahundanda. The trail then crosses to the west bank of the Marsyangdi River. We proceed through villages such as Syanje and Srichaur before beginning a steep 150-meter (500-foot) climb up a stone-paved stairway. The slope then becomes very sheer, with rails for safety. Eventually, we can see the village of Jagat in the distance, perched on a low hill. The trail descends to Jagat, which is 1,300 meters (4,290 feet) from Ghermu and consists of around 50 houses.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Trek to DHARAPANI (1960m/6431ft)
After about half an hour of walking from Jagat, we reach Chamje. From there, the trail rounds a bend and passes by a large rock shelter before arriving at the cluster of thatched huts in Sattale village. The path descends into a broad valley where the Marsyangdi River winds gently through. The village of Tal, located on the riverbank, is just 15 minutes away. Continuing for approximately 7.3 km (4.5 miles) from Tal, we arrive at Dharapani, named for the water tap where travelers once collected water for their journey. Opposite Dharapani, on the east bank, a magnificent waterfall cascades from the Dana Khola, fed by the Tulagi Glacier of the Manaslu range, into the Marsyangdi River.
Trek to CHAME (2710m/8892ft)
Leaving Dharapani, the trail follows the right bank of the Marsyangdi River. A stairway leads us up to the village gateway, or kani, of Bagarchhap. From there, a half-hour climb through forested slopes brings us to Danaque, where the eighth highest peak, Manaslu, is visible to the east, while Lamjung Himal is seen to the west. Continuing, we pass through the villages of Timang, Thanchok, and Koto Qupar. Koto Qupar offers stunning views of Manaslu to the east, and Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal to the southeast. As we proceed towards Chame, impressive rock formations on the opposite bank of the Naar River come into view. Chame, the largest settlement after Besi Sahar, features a long, roofed mani wall adorned with prayer wheels dividing the road. From Chame, Lamjung Himal dominates the southern skyline, while Manaslu is visible to the east.
Trek to PISANG (3310m/10860ft)
A mani wall near the gompa marks the end of Chame. After a 1km walk, we reach Talekhu, known for its apple orchards. The path continues pleasantly through pine forests. As we descend, we pass a mani and soon arrive at Bharatang village. Beyond Bharatang, we reach Dhukure Pokhari, a picturesque spot with a lake nestled in the woods. Another charming lake is about 15 minutes farther, with the forest starting to thin out. After the lake, the trail passes a helipad as we near Pisang. On the hill across the river are the grey-brown houses of Upper Pisang, resembling clusters of bird nests. Above, Pisang Peak (6,091m/19,985ft) towers, and to the south rises Annapurna II (7,937m/26,041ft), the world’s 16th highest peak. Pisang village is just 15 minutes from the gateway. The path to Upper Pisang ascends the slope clearly visible from Pisang after crossing the Marsyangdi River bridge.
Trek to MANANG (3540m/11615ft)
The trail climbs to a saddle that separates the Pisang and Manang valleys. From this vantage, we can spot the village of Ngawal with its distinctive yellow-roofed gompa nestled between jagged cliffs. The path then continues straight through the village to Humde, where we enjoy spectacular mountain views. Pisang Peak presents a striking pyramid shape, while Annapurna III dominates the southwest horizon.
After 1km, we cross the Marsyangdi River on a wooden bridge and arrive at Mungji. A little over 2km further, a sign directs us south to Milarepa’s cave. Soon after, we reach the gateway to Braga, where a visit to Braga Gompa is a must, taking about an hour. Manang is just 1.5km (0.9 miles) from Braga, offering a panoramic view that is breathtaking on clear days. Even on overcast days, Manang’s charm is undeniable. The temperature here can drop below freezing in early spring and autumn.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
EXPLORE MANANG
Today is dedicated to acclimatization in Manang. We'll spend the day taking scenic walks around the village, which is ideal for adjusting to the altitude. Climbing higher during the day helps speed up the acclimatization process. From Manang, you can enjoy stunning views of Annapurna II (7937m), Annapurna III (7555m), Gangapurna (7454m), and Chulu East to the north.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Trek to YAK KHARKA (4020m/13190ft)
The trail ascends out of the Marsyangdi valley and veers northwest into the Jarsang Khola valley, leaving Manang behind. As we move through pastures and small forests of juniper, rose, and barberry, we reach Yak-Kharka, named for its yak pastures. From here, enjoy impressive views of Annapurna III. While in Manang, consider exploring options like visiting Bodzo Gompa to the east, trekking to Gangapurna Lake, or hiking up to the Chongkar viewpoint.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Trek to THORUNG HIGH CAMP (4850m/15913ft)
Our journey takes us on a climb out of the Marsyangdi Valley. We'll veer northwestward, leaving Manang behind and entering the Jarsang Khola Valley. Lush pastures and pockets of juniper, rose, and barberry forests flank our path. As we reach Yak Kharka, a place aptly named for its yak pastures, prepare to be stunned by the majestic presence of Annapurna III.
While Manang serves as your base, don't miss the chance to explore! Hike east to Bodzo Gompa, a historical monastery. Or, venture further for a serene experience at Gangapurna Lake. Feeling adventurous? Hike up to the Chongkar viewpoint for breathtaking panoramas.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

This trek conquers Thorung La, a challenging but rewarding climb with breathtaking views. Hike for 3-5 hours to reach the pass, then descend through meadows and a ravine to Muktinath, a temple complex. Explore Muktinath and rest after a tough but unforgettable day.
Trek to JOMSOM (2760m/9056ft)
From Muktinath, we trek to Jomsom and stay overnight. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Trek to TATOPANI (1190m/3904ft)
Our trek follows varied gravel paths, offering stunning views of the Annapurna range on our left. After a descent, we pass traditional teahouses (bhattis) before reaching Tatopani, a trekker haven famous for its rejuvenating hot springs.
Trek to GHOREPANI (2750m/9023ft)
Leaving Tatopani, most trekkers head up to Ghorepani. For those short on time, a quicker exit follows through Beni. Whichever path you choose, two suspension bridges await: first over the Kali Gandaki River, then across the Ghar Khola.
The climb from Ghar Khola leads to Ghara, a peaceful village at 1700 meters (5610 ft) with a non-touristy vibe. Leaving Ghara's farmlands behind, the trail winds along the basin rim, offering beautiful valley views. Sikha, with its sprawling terraced fields, sits 1940 meters (6402 ft) further up. Tea houses pepper the route, perfect for rest stops while soaking in the scenery. As you gain altitude, the mountains become even more impressive. Phalate and Chitre villages lie ahead, followed by a secluded climb through rhododendron, birch, and magnolia forests. Occasional meadows offer stunning glimpses of the peaks before reaching Ghorepani.
Trek to POONHILL (3210m/10532ft);Trek down to POKHARA (884m/2900ft)
Ghorepani, aptly named "water for horses," is our final stop on the Annapurna Classic Trek. Here, the Himalayas deliver a breathtaking farewell performance before we depart.
An hour-long, pre-dawn climb takes us up a steep path to Poon Hill. Despite the frosty chill, the reward is a panoramic vista unlike any other. Southwards, the plains stretch endlessly, while northwesterly to northeasterly, a stunning line of peaks unfolds, from Dhaulagiri to Manaslu. Poon Hill boasts views of three giants: Dhaulagiri I (world's 7th highest), Manaslu, and Annapurna (10th). After soaking in this unforgettable sight, we descend towards Pokhara for our final night's stay.
