Day 2

Drive from Kathmandu to Syabru Bensi (1462m/4795ft) Duration

Your day begins with an early breakfast at your hotel in Kathmandu before departing for a bus trip to the trailhead city of Syabrubesi, where the Langtang Valley Trek begins. This half-day road trip follows the road alongside the Trishuli River.

As you travel through green fields approaching the town of Dhunche, you’ll start to get a good look at the lofty Ganesh Himal range of mountains. The tallest peaks here rise higher than 7,000 meters above the cultivated terraces carved into the hillsides below. Past Dhunche, the road becomes a bit bumpier on the final stretch to Syabrubesi—but with every twist and turn in the road, you’ll glimpse a new and spectacular panorama of green hills and snowbound summits. When you arrive in Syabrubesi, you’ll be on the fringes of the Langtang National Park: a genuine wilderness and the first Himalayan national park established in Nepal. You’ll overnight in one of the comfortable guesthouses here in town; today’s

Day 3

Syabru Bensi to Lama Hotel (2500m/8200ft) Duration

Sit down to a hearty breakfast in Syabrubesi this morning; your adventure on the Langtang Valley Trek is about to begin! Today’s route should take approximately five hours of steady hiking. You’ll begin by following a path alongside the Bhote Koshi and Langtang Khola rivers, periodically crossing suspension bridges to reach the opposite bank. As you approach the village of Bamboo, you’ll notice a landslide zone where falling rocks have cascaded down the steep mountainside. We’ll pass this section of trail to reach the community of Rimche, where you might consider stopping for lunch. Past the village, you’ll enter a forest of oak and rhododendron, along with the occasional waterfall punctuating the greenery. This is prime wildlife habitat: keep your eyes peeled for animals like the rhesus macaque and red panda. Your path continues through the forest to reach the hillside settlements of Gumanechok and Lama Hotel. There are plenty of guesthouses available in Lama Hotel; you’ll spend the night here. Today’s

Day 4

Trek to Mundu (3543 m/11621 ft ) via Langtang Village (3430 m/ 11250 ft) Duration

Ascending from Lama Hotel, your path now rises above the Langtang Khola river and rewards you with a marvelous glimpse of Langtang Lirung. At approximately 7,227 meters, this is the highest peak of the Langtang Himal range.

Trekking on, you’ll soon find yourself in Ghoda Tabela, a region of nomadic camps and farmhouses. The meadows here are dotted with horses and donkeys raised for transportation purposes. After passing through a checkpoint, you’ll encounter more pasturelands, where you’ll get a good look at that iconic high-altitude beast of burden: the yak. From here, you’ll follow the trail past ethnic Tamang households decorated with Buddhist prayer flags and prayer wheels.

The next point of interest on today’s hike is Langtang Village, which sits at an altitude of about 3,500 meters. Pay your respects at the memorial to those lost in the 2015 earthquake before moving on to the town of Mundu.

You’ll stop here for the night to enjoy guesthouse accommodation with great mountain views.

Day 5

Trek to Kyanjing Gompa (3798m/12495ft) Duration

Get ready to feast your eyes on the most spectacular scenery of the entire Langtang Valley Trek! After enjoying a leisurely breakfast in Mundu, you’ll hit the trail and pass through the settlements of Singdum and Yamphu.

Today’s hike will take you across several bridges; one particularly beautiful crossing passes over the glacial meltwaters of the Laja Khola river. You’ll encounter a tremendous variety of prayer wheels, chortens, and mani walls on the way. Mani walls are comprised of stones carved or painted with Buddhist mantras and should always be passed on the left; there is an especially long mani wall on the approach to Kyanjin Gompa.

This village itself is packed with guesthouses and bakeries, but the principal feature of Kyanjin Gompa is the mountainside monastery which shares its name. From this splendid vantage point, you can see the dramatic flow of ice coursing through the glaciated faces of Langtang Lirung.

Enjoy these stunning views before turning in at your guesthouse for the night;

Day 6

Hike to the Chorkari Ri (5050m/16564ft) Duration

Kyanjin Gompa will serve as your base for today’s exploration of the outlying mountains. Before setting out, take some time to visit the local monastery. Its construction is relatively simple, but it’s imbued with an unmistakable antiquity and enhanced by the spectacular backdrop of the Langtang range.

You can also visit one of the local coffee shops for an authentic Italian roast or check out a nearby cheese factory for a delicious sample of yak cheese. When you’re ready to stretch your legs, you can follow one of several routes from town to earn some wonderful views. The best day hike from here takes you to the fantastic viewpoint of Cherko Ri at 5,050 meters. The round trip takes about seven hours and will reward you with a superlative panorama of Langtang Lirung, Gyanghempo, Langshisa Ri, and several other snowcapped giants.

This evening, you’ll return to Kyanjin Gompa to enjoy dinner before spending another night at your guesthouse in town. Today’

Day 7

Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel (2500m/8200ft); Duration

After enjoying two nights in Kyanjin Gompa, it’s time to bid farewell to this uniquely enchanting mountain town. Today’s hike will retrace your steps back to Lama Hotel. Now that you’re descending, the same route that required two full days on the way up can now be accomplished in just five or six hours. As you carefully traverse this steep path through tranquil forests and pastoral villages, you’ll see the Himalayan peaks that rise above the trail from a different direction. In some ways, the mountain scenery takes on a different character when viewed from this fresh perspective. To make the most of these views, you might consider stopping for lunch in Langtang Village.

Today’s trek will come to its conclusion when you reach Lama Hotel, where you’ll overnight in a guesthouse.

Day 8

Lama Hotel to Syabrubesi (1462m/4795ft); Duration

Today is your last full day of hiking on the Langtang Valley Trek. Take the time to savor breakfast this morning; most of your hike today will be downhill, and you’ll only be on the trail for another five or six hours. You’ll pass a number of familiar suspension bridges and waterfalls; if you’re a photography enthusiast, take advantage of this opportunity to capture these sights from a completely new angle.

Your return hike also brings you back through the final stretch of the Langtang National Park. Be on the lookout to catch one last glimpse of any wildlife moving furtively about in the treetops before you return to civilization. When you arrive in Syabrubesi, the comparatively busy streets of town may come as a surprise after trekking in the isolated mountains for a week. Take this opportunity to unwind over a relaxing dinner or drink while reflecting on your trekking accomplishments.

You’ll spend the night in a guesthouse, and today’s

Day 9

Drive Back to Kathmandu

Today you’ll be leaving Syabrubesi after successfully completing the Langtang Valley Trek. The memories you’ve made of quiet mountain towns, glaciated peaks crowned with plumes of snow, and the friendly faces of Langtang villagers are sure to stick with you forever. You’ll have plenty of time to reflect on your fondest recollections during the drive back to Kathmandu, which should take approximately seven hours.

Enjoy this final roadside glimpse of rural Nepal before returning to the country’s capital, where your journey began just one week ago. After checking in at your hotel in Kathmandu, you can make the most of your last night in Nepal by enjoying a celebratory drink or lavish meal at one of the city’s best restaurants.

This is also an excellent chance to grab any last-minute souvenirs or keepsakes to commemorate your visit to Nepal. You’ll spend the night here in Kathmandu; today’s
