Itinerary

For the adventurous, exploring Borneo's wild interior, its local markets, cultures, natives, villages, waterways and unique cuisines.

Tour program

Day 1

Kuching – Sarikei (Ulu Sarikei) – Sibu (338 km)

Transfer to Kuching Airport for your morning flight from to Sibu and proceed to the countryside upon arrival. (Recommended flight: Kuching – Sibu: AK 6462 0700hrs/0740hrs).


Enjoy the scenic views hilly landscapes along the way and passing by some pepper vineyards by the roadside. Walk and discover the Longhouse nearby the countryside, farms, and clear water stream (subject to weather conditions). Prepare and enjoy BBQ lunch along the clear water stream. Follow the villagers to experience local rubber tapping activity. Afterwards, head up to Sibu, known as the Heart of Sarawak. In the evening, explore the fascinating Night Market.


Day 2

Sibu – Sungai Kut – Dalat – Oya – Mukah (244 km) [B/D]

Discover Sibu’s rich heritage in a walking tour. Visit the century old Tua Peng Kong temple, Seven Storey Pagoda (Kuan Ying), Sibu’s “Floating Market”, Sibu Heritage Centre, and the biggest Central Market in Malaysia, which consists of 1,200 stalls and varieties of commodities including jungle produce.


Enjoy a 1½-hour speedboat ride to Dalat, cruising through the mighty Rajang and Igan River passing Malay villages, shipyards, timber & sago processing factories, Iban longhouses and Melanau village that bring you back to the feel of the ancient Sarawak when water transportation played a significant role. En-route stops at peaceful Sungai Kut Melanau Village for a walk.


Continue your speedboat journey from Sungai Kut depending on the tide, then continue with 15-minute overland journey to Dalat. Visit a Church by the River & the Dalat Icon– The Jerunei Garden. Enjoy your overland trip to Mukah passing through the serene and picturesque town of Oya. Check into the Local Melanau Village house overlooking the river. A brief introduction to the Melanau people and cultures will be conducted. Enjoy an exotic Melanau Dinner.

Day 3

Mukah – Bintulu (217 km) [B/L]

This morning, go for a village walks and experienced the mystical past believes of the Melanau community by visiting ancient Jerunei (Burial above ground coffin). Visit a sago bake house, a cottage industry of Processing Sago Pearls in traditional method.*Note: Sago processing factory & sago bake house are closed on Sunday.


Take a boat ride along the Tellian River and Misan River. Along the way, you might encounter villagers busy tying pieces of sago palm trunks before leaving them to float downstream like a raft on the river. Take the opportunities to enter sago forest and search Sago Worms. Return back to village and visit the Local Textile (Batik) processing by applying Sago Starch. Melanau Traditional Food and Pastries demonstration before lunch to be served. Continue the Melanau Handicraft Making demo before bid farewell to the locals and proceed overland to Bintulu. 

Day 4

Bintulu – Niah National Park - Miri (225 km) [B]

Explore the spectacular Niah National Park- a UNESCO Heritage Site. Take the long boat ride at Pangkalan Lobang to cross the river where we will start off with a visit to the Niah Museum. The oldest human remains were found in Niah making the park one of the most important archaeological sites of the world. The tour of the cave will take you through the Great and Painted Caves as well as allowing you to witness the age-old remnants of bird’s nest harvesting equipment inside the cave (now a government-controlled activity). 

Proceed to Miri, the second largest city in Sarawak. The rest of the day is at leisure in Miri. 

(Note: Guests are advised to bring some packed food during the trip due to a late lunch in Niah.)


Day 5

Free at leisure until departure transfer to the airport for your onward flight.

Cancelations made 60 days or less prior to arrival:  subject to cancellation fee (by the hotel)

Cancellations made 30 days or less prior to arrival: subject to 50% cancellation fees.

Cancellations made 21 days or less prior to arrival: subject to 75%  cancellation fees.

Cancellations made 14 days or less prior to arrival: subject to 100% cancellation charge.

No Show/ Shorten Stay: subject to 100% cancellation charges.

 


Do note that Cancellation fees are levied by Asian Overland Services in cases where charges arise from outside contractors or where actions taken extend beyond reservation for tours and hotel accommodation. Charges are levied at the sole discretion of Asian Overland Services for operation planning, consulting and ancillary expenses relating to development of services of a specialized nature.


General PAYMENT Term

Non-refundable deposits may be required for certain product (program involving Selingan Island and Mountain Climbing), or if travel during high season. A deadline to make deposit payment will be advice upon booking confirmation.

Full Payment is required to be made for all services at least 30 days before travel period, or by the given dateline.
