Itinerary
The Baltic Sea coast in Lithuania with Palanga Resort and the Curonian Spit National Park, designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, explored individually or with a tour guide on very scenic hiking routes. Experience traditional Lithuanian country life and explore beautiful nature and its birdlife when hiking in the Nemunas River Delta. This region has one of the largest populations of storks in Europe and more than one million birds passing through Ventė Cape each migratory year.
The tour begins & ends in the historic coastal town of Klaipeda (known as Memel for many years) which boasts a rich, turbulent history from 13thC. Nowadays, it’s a bustling, modern town offering many excellent leisure options ranging from history tours, to water sports. There’s a wide range of cafes & restaurants & many annual festivals, e.g. jazz, folklore. You can choose to spend extra nights here either at the beginning or end of the tour; and upgrade your hotel from 3* to 4* hotel in Klaipėda (see the pricelist) and even to 4* spa hotel in Nida (prices on request).
During the tour you will spend 3 nights in Nida, the largest settlement on the Curonian Spit and most beautiful resort in Lithuania. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing seaside break on white sand beaches or explore on foot its unique surroundings like the Great Dune of Parnidis (50 m. high); its birdlife, the influence of the Lagoon etc. There are many other gorgeous places worth to see and explore on foot on the Curonian Spit! The Dead (Grey) Dunes near Pervalka and a colony of grey herons and cormorants in Juodkrantė are just a few places which should not missed during the tour.

Walking distances: daily from 5 km/3miles to 19 km/12 miles with a possibility to do one day an optional long distance hike of 28 km/18 miles

Ferry terminal: Klaipėda (DFDS ferries from Kiel, Germany & Karlshamn, Sweden; TT-Line ferries from Travemunde/Rostock, Germany & Karlshamn/Trelleborg, Sweden)
Airport: Klaipėda/Palanga (35 km/22 miles away from Klaipėda, www.palanga-airport.lt). Regular flights from Amsterdam (NL), Copenhagen (DK), Riga (LV), London Stanstead (GB), Dublin (IE), Oslo (NO). Due to many connecting flights (SAS, Air Baltic) it is easy to reach this airport from many cities in Europe via Copenhagen, Riga and Amsterdam.
Parking: car parking is available for extra charge in fenced car parking lot at the arrival hotel (4*) or close to the hotel (3*)

Wednesday: KLAIPĖDA
Thursday: Walking along the Baltic Seacoast to Palanga Resort (~17 km/11 miles/4 hrs., by minivan ~30 min)
9:00 a.m. information meeting at your hotel where you will be greeted by a BALTIC BIKE TRAVEL representative. A short minivan transfer to the Seaside Regional Park (included) where start your hiking tour along the Lithuanian Seaside to Palanga resort. En route visit the Dutchman’s Cap – a 24-meter-high coastal cliff famous for gorgeous panorama of the Baltic Sea. In Palanga you can visit the Botanical Park and Amber Museum, explore J.Basanavičius pedestrian street with many cafes & restaurants and the 470 m pier heading into the Baltic Sea. Return to Klaipėda by public bus (not included). Optional dinner at the hotel.
Friday: Hiking with storks along the Minija River (~13 km/8 miles or ~19 km/12 miles/4 hrs, by minivan ~1 hr)
Minivan transfer takes you inland (included) where start walking along the Curonian Lagoon on small country roads and forest trails. Today hiking in the Nemunas River delta Regional Park. The route to Ventė will lead you along the Minija River and passing by Minija (Mingė) village which is like the Venice of Lithuania with houses of both sides of the river and no bridges connecting them. Finish your walking in the hotel at the Curonian Lagoon in Ventė Cape, check-in and optional dinner at the hotel.
Saturday: Walking along the Curonian Lagoon and crossing the Curonian Lagoon to NIDA (~5 km/3 mi./1 hrs, by boat ~1.5 hours)
Hiking to Ventė Cape where you may visit a museum of ornithology and one of the first bird ringing stations in Europe, the 19th C lighthouse which has a panoramic view of the unique landscape - glistening waters of the Curonian Lagoon and the great sand dunes. Today, one million birds pass through Ventė Cape each migratory year. This region has one of the largest population of storks in Europe. The White Stork truly deserves its place as Lithuanian's national bird. In the evening take a boat to cross the Curonian Lagoon. Arrival in Nida followed by a short walk through the resort village to the hotel. Check-in and optional dinner at the hotel.
Sunday: NIDA – leisure time by the Baltic Sea (~10 km/6 miles/2 hrs)
Free day to explore Nida which is a former old fishermen’s village on the Curonian Spit washed by the Baltic Sea on one side and the Curonian Lagoon on the other. Today Nida is the largest settlement in Neringa region and one of the most beautiful resorts in Lithuania. Walk along impressive sand dunes to the Baltic Sea where you can enjoy white sand beaches and swimming in the sea, visit the most popular places of interest – the Fisherman’s House, the summer house of famous German writer Thomas Mann and the Amber Gallery. Optional dinner at the hotel.
Monday: Hiking from the Dead Dunes to Pervalka and Preila (~9 km/6 miles/2 hrs or ~15 km/9 miles/3 hrs or 28 km/17 miles/5 hrs)
Morning transfer by minivan to the Dead (Grey) dunes (transfer included) where start your hike on picturesque trail in the Nagliai strict nature reserve (entrance not included). This is the place where 4 former villages were buried in the sand a few centuries ago. Strong winds here create a unique landscape – steep sand dunes with hollows and washouts. Finish hiking in Pervalka or continue hiking along the lagoon to Preila en route passing the most picturesque places in all Curonian spit: Horse Cap and Lighthouse, Pervalka and Karvaičiai Bays with towers for birdwatching, etc. From Preila you can return back to Nida by public bus or continue hiking along the Curonian Lagoon to Nida (13 km extra) including a climb up to the highest Vecekrugas Dune (67 m). Optional dinner at the hotel.
Tuesday: Curonian Spit - Juodkrantė Hike (~13 km/ 8 miles/3 hrs, by boat or minivan ~1 hour)
Take a public bus to Juodkrantė (not included) where go hiking on a circular route with a few natural and cultural highlights of the Curonian spit. Start your route at the Amber Bay, continue into the primaeval forest, pass along the mystical wooden sculptures of Lithuanian legends scattered along a forest path on the Hill of Witches, walk through an acid forest shaped by one of the biggest Cormorant colony in Europe. Afternoon is free to spend more time in one of many local restaurants, or just relaxing and taking the sun on white sand beach, swimming in the sea, etc. Finally, take a speed boat from Juodkrantė to Klaipėda (or a minibus transfer, included). Check-in and optional dinner at the hotel.
Wednesday: KLAIPĖDA
Breakfast at the hotel. End of the tour. It is possible to extend your stay in Lithuania.

1. Booking & confirmation
Booking and confirmation is in written form. Receiving from us a written confirmation means that the tour is going to take place. With the confirmation you shall receive the tour information with a list of hotels, travelling tips (pre-departure information) and the bill.
2. Bicycles
Comfortable trekking / hybrid bike with frame of different size and type (optionally with a crossbar or low lady‘s/unisex), flatless tires, comfortable saddle and accessories package is included in the package price of BBT guided group tours (G1, G6).
Our accessories package on guided group tours includes rental of a bicycle pannier (ORTLIEB) with a 12.5 or 20 litres capacity, helmet, a cable lock (normally one for two bikes) and a reusable plastic bottle for drinking water as a present.
On all other tours you can bring your own bike or you can rent from BBT a trekking bike and extra equipment (odometer, waterproof panniers, helmet, child trailer, etc.). It is also possible to rent an E-bike/Pedelec for most tours.

Please let us know when reserving your tour, what type of BBT bike (optionally 24-speed Shimano derailleur gears with free wheel or 8-speed Shimano hub-gears with pedal brake) and size (your height in cm), which optional extras you choose (size of helmet or your head in cm is needed if you require our rental helmet).
During self-guided tour, each participant is financially responsible for the rental bicycle (in case of damages or losses).
3. Payment
The first installment is 50% of the tour price and is paid to BBT bank account upon receiving the confirmation. The remaining amount is to be paid at the latest two weeks before the tour. All payments must be effected “without charge for beneficiary" as no “bank charges" have been included in the tour prices. Payments will only be accepted in EUR by bank transfer to:

4. Discounts

5. Supplementary charges
A surcharge of 20% is applied for services during the night hours (23:00-6:00) and during bank holidays.
6. Number of participants
On group tours (G1, G6) with one guide is usually between 6 and 15 people, but groups can be up to 21 people if escorted by two tour leaders.
BBT guided cycle tour G1, self-guided supported cycle tours with luggage transport SG1, SG2, SG11, SG14x and hiking tour SGH1 are guaranteed from 2 people on fixed departure dates!
Guided tours GH1, G6 are guaranteed on fixed departure dates from 6 people, while the self-guided supported tours SG7, SG14, SG14xx, SG16 are guaranteed from 4 people.
All self-guided tours with no fixed departure dates are guaranteed from 1 person upon availability of hotels and other services during defined period of time!
All guided and self-guided tours offered on fixed departure dates are available for exclusive groups and individuals on any other departure dates during the season (May-September), but with different minimum group size. Please contact BBT for prices and other conditions.
7. Cancellation Policy - book with confidence!
Our cancellation policy makes it as easy as possible to change your bike tour to different dates or destinations. Even in uncertain times, you can rely on us to provide flexibility so you can book your trip with confidence. Your trip deposit is fully transferable up until 30 days before departure in case of guided group tour and self-guided supported (half-guided) tour or 14 days in case of self-guided individual tour, and your deposit on file does not expire. Below you will find all options to choose either a refund or future trip credit based on your cancellation date. If you have any doubts, just contact us.
2023 Standard Cancellatioon Policy
The following cancellation fees will be charged by BBT for all standard guided group tour and self-guided supported (half-guided) tour bookings:

30-15 days before departure - 30% of the price
14-8 days before departure - 50% of the price
7-1 day before departure - 80% of the price
in case of cancellation on the day of departure or “No-Show” – 90% of the price

Our Future Trip credit never expires and can be transferred to any other tours, future dates or even other guests. Please note that the price for future tours might differ, due to external or internal cost increases of our tours.
Cancellation Policy due to Covid-19:
Baltic Bike Travel does not typically cancel a trip once it is guaranteed. However, due to the ongoing Coronavirus situation, we will consider cancelling a guided trip and self-guided supported (half-guided) trip in the 30 days or an individual self-guided trip in the 14 days prior to the tour start date based on information provided from the Governments of the Baltic States (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia), Poland or Finland. If Baltic Bike Travel cancels a tour according to the information from one of the governments above mentioned, we will transfer all your credit to use as future trip credit, which does not expire. In the event of cancellation, Baltic Bike Travel is not responsible for any loss incurred for non-refundable travel costs.
Custom trip cancellation policy:
Our standard cancellation policies do not apply for Customized or Bespoke tours, and will be communicated on a per project basis.
8. Liability
The tour operator is liable for:
selection of service providers and supervising of services,
gathering the services altogether,
description of services in catalogues or brochures,
processing of travel reservations,
organization, reservation and confirmation of the travel services,
informing the participants about the travel documents such a passport, visa, customs, foreign exchange and sanitary regulations of the countries they are visiting.
For non-compliance with the above-described provisions the tour operator shall be liable to participants.
9. Limited liability
The liability of the tour operator is limited. BBT acts only as an agent for the customers and performs the following functions: provides hotel and other accommodation services, restaurant and other public catering services, excursions and transportation services and is not responsible for any unforeseen incidents such as injury, loss, damage or delay, in cases of higher violence, governmental orders or significant policy changes (wars, riots, natural disasters, epidemics, etc.), or reasons that are not under the control of the tour operator. The tour operator is not responsible for additional costs incurred as a result of the schedule change, and for other similar incidents, which have not been caused by the tour operator. Rarely, we come to a situation where we have to change the programme, or the place of accommodation without notice. We ask for your understanding on this matter.
10. Complaints
If you feel you have a reason to complain on our services, please write us immediately. Please do it at the latest one month after the end of your tour. The seat of the operator is relevant in case of legal arguments.
