Itinerary

Are you thinking about combining your beach holiday in Agadir with a city break in Marrakech? Then why not see some Highlights of our beautiful country Morocco as well!

This oneway-trip from Agadir to Marrakech takes you to the real Moroccan Sahara Desert - the dunes of Erg Chigaga.

Marvel at the beautiful sunset, discover the Milky way with its thousands of stars, and dance around the camp fire!

This tour also brings you to UNESCO-world heritage Ait Ben Haddou, movie city Ouarzazate and over the High Atlas until you reach the "red city" of Marrakech, with some hidden gems along the way.

Tour program

Day 1

Agadir – Tiznit – Anti Atlas – Tafraoute

Let’s start our adventure! Soon after leaving Agadir, we will see the Western Anti-Atlas mountains in front of us. In Tiznit, you can explore the small Medina inside of the old city walls. The city walls are 5 km long with 9 gates and around 30 towers, and you can climb them for a panoramic view over the old town and palmeraie. The souk of Tiznit is famous for its shops where you can buy local silver Berber jewellery.

Enjoy the drive through breathtaking landscapes until you reach Tafraoute in the valley of Ameln, a Berber town surrounded by pink granite mountains. You’ll see valleys dotted with small villages, Argan and Almond groves and you can spot some tree-climbing goats along the road.

A little outside of Tafraoute we’ll drive over the hills on a unpaved road until we reach the „Pierres Bleues“, a fantastic artpiece made by an artist from Belgium in 1984. The natural rocks are painted in blue, pink and black and look like from another world. Impressing! Overnight in a Riad in Tafraoute with dinner.

Start point

Agadir, Souss - Massa - Draâ, Morocco

Day 2

Tafraoute – Tata – Foum Zguid – Erg Chigaga

Start of your tour through the Anti-Atlas mountains after breakfast. This region is far away from the tourist hot spots but still truly worth a visit. You'll pass through the city of Tata, which lies at the feet of the mountain Jebel Bani and was years ago an important stop for the caravans of the west african trade routes.

Lunch will be served in the berber village Foum Zguid. This small town is famous for its berber carpet cooperations. You are welcome to attend a detailed demonstration of how the women of the area are producing the colorfully masterpieces which can also bring some oriental flair to your house.

Discover the the old Paris-Dakar road to Foum Zguid and cross the Iriki lake, which is a temporary wet land during rain periods. In this national park you’ll have the chance to spot some wild animals like lizards, snakes, gazelles and even hyenas with a little luck.

After passing the dry salt desert of Iriki, we will soon reach the immense sand dunes of Erg Chegaga. You can spot nomads living with herds of camels, donkeys, goats and sheep. Enjoy the rough beauty and the endless vastness of the Sahara.

We’ll arrive in your desert camp before sunset. Hop on a camel and walk at the desert pace along the dunes with its diverse colors. We’ll arrive at the desert camp where you’ll pass the night in a nomad tent or under the shining stars in the middle of impressive sand dunes.

Day 3

Erg Chigaga – M'hamid – Tamegroute – Zagora – Agdz – Ouarzazate

Enjoy your berber breakfast in the desert camp, before your adventure continues.

We drive with your 4x4 through the desert until M'Hamid, where we take the road again. Follow the Draa river in direction Zagora.

Along the way, we stop at a Saadian town of the 16th century which is called Tamegroute. There, we are able to visit an old coran library and a subterranean Kasbah together with a local guide. Tamegroute is also famous for its pottery shops.

Enjoy the panoramic views of the River Draa with the Oasis and date palm trees in Zagora and Agdz.

Evening arrival in the "movie city" Ouarzazate, where you'll spend your night in a Riad.

Day 4

Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Ounila Valley – Telouet – High Atlas – Marrakech

A little outside of Ouarzazate lies Ait Ben Haddou, the fortified clay city with its numerous Ksars and Kasbahs, where several famous movies such as Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven and Prince of Persia have been shot. This photogenic city is also listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site. After the visit and enjoying your lunch in Ait Ben Haddou, we take a detour to the bizzare Telouet Kasbah which once belonged to the great Glaoui family and has a stratetic position with a fantastic view. Nowadays, it is fast crumbling into the red earth, but still an extraordinary site to visit. After we pass the High Atlas mountains over the Tizi n’Tichka pass with scenic views along the road and many opportunities to take photos. Early evening arrival in Marrakech at your Riad, Hotel or Airport and end of your tour.
