North West Highlands, Skye, Eilean Donan Castle & Glenfinnan Viaduct

Enjoy the full sweep of Scotland’s beauty with one night in Oban, two  nights on the Isle of Skye and a final night in Inverness, capital of the Highlands. You’ll get to know Scottish history and culture and have time to experience the places you visit.

Tour program

Day 1

Through the Trossachs to Oban

Our wide-ranging tour starts by heading west through the beautiful scenery of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, where you will make a stop on the shores of Loch Lomond, the largest freshwater loch in Scotland by area. This stop will be in the attractive village of Luss, here you will have time to explore the heritage village, or to admire the views across the iconic loch. Our journey will then take you through the stunning scenery of Argyll, including a stop at the the breathtaking Rest and Be Thankful viewpoint, before arriving in the village of Inveraray, druing your stop here you will have time to explore the castle that is the home of the Campbell Clan.

Later in the afternoon, the tour will take you to the fascinating Kilmartin Glen to explore Scotland’s ancient past. With over 5,000 years of history laid out before you, you’ll be able to walk in the footsteps of the first Scots at Dunadd Hill Fort and the Temple Wood Stone Circle. Then it’s on the picturesque seaside town of Oban, which will be your overnight stop for the first night of your tour, whilst staying here, be sure to sample some of Scotland's best seafood.

Day two takes you over the Connel Bridge through Appin to the haunting landscape of Glen Coe (scene of the terrible massacre of the MacDonald Clan), here you will have the time to admire the sensational scenery in one of Scotland's most astonishing landscapes, as well as learning about the tragic history of the area. We’ll stop in the town of Fort William for lunch. You will continue west from Fort William on board your bus, making a stop to view the Glenfinnan Viaduct, made famous by the Harry Potter films. You will also be able to see Glenfinnan Monument - and the gorgeous scenery that surrounds it. We will then have time in Mallaig before (on some dates) we will board a ferry over to the Isle of Skye.

Overnight: Skye

You’ll have the whole of the third day to explore Skye’s mysteries and landscape. Here the mountains and beaches beckon, so lose yourself amongst the Cuillin Mountains, take in the spectacular scenery of the Kilt rock waterfall, The Old Man of Storr and the Trotternish Peninsula, including a visit to the capital of the island, Portree. Your expert local driver-guide will be able to help you explore some of the lesser explored and show you some of their own personal favourite spots on the island.

Overnight: Skye

We’ll leave Skye by crossing the Skye Bridge, heading straight to Scotland’s most photographed castle, Eilean Donan* which you’ll have ample time to explore. This castle is set in an astonishing location, sitting on it's own island in Loch Duich, beneath the mountains of the Five Sisters of Kintail,

We will then head towards the Great Glen and Loch Ness - the world's most famous Loch. Here you can choose to enjoy exploring Urquhart Castle before taking a boat cruise on the Loch (optional extra) The day will end in the city of Inverness, which will be the overnight location for the final night of the tour.

Overnight: Inverness

The final day of the tour will begin with a visit to the battlefield of Culloden the site of the defeat of the final defeat of the Jacobite forces. We will also explore Clava Cairns, a group of Prehistoric Burial Cairns, a site that inspired the Outlander series. On your way south you could maybe enjoy a wee dram at a local distillery. Then you’ll pass the stunning mountains of the Cairngorms National Park and be able to explore the picturesque town of Pitlochry before arriving back in Edinburgh.

Accommodation is included in quality Bed & Breakfasts in Oban, the Isle of Skye and Inverness. Available room types are single occupancy, double rooms or twin rooms. All rooms contain a private bathroom.

  • Transportation included in a modern and comfortable touring vehicle
  • Luggage restritions: Maximum weight:  15kg. Maximum size: 55cm x 40cm x 20cm per person or one larger suitcase between two people.
Insurance is not included. Travel insurance is required for this tour. Please make sure you are adequately covered.
  • Optional attractions, such as admission to Eilean Donan Castle or the Culloden Battlefield Exhibition Centre are not included.

Meals other than breakfast are not included

Breakast is included at your accomodation, this may be a contintental breakfast, a full Scottish Breakfast or a combination of both.
