Sparkling lakes, green valleys, fortified castles

It will probably be a few years before the cycle path around Italy's largest lake is completed. With us, you can already fulfill your dream of cycling around the whole of Lake Garda. Ride directly along the shore, along flower-decked promenades and let your gaze wander over the wide, glistening surface of the water. Refresh yourself in the lesser-known but by no means less enchanting Lakes Ledro and Idro. The views in the valleys are impressive. Wonderful cycle paths lead you through the fertile Adige Valley, the panoramic Sarca Valley and the romantic Val Sabbia. In addition to impressive scenery, the region around Lake Garda also offers outstanding cuisine. Sample the best olive oil, excellent wines, ripe citrus fruits and tasty freshwater fish on every stage of your journey. So what are you waiting for, it's ready for you!

Details of the cycle tour on Lake Garda

The circular tour starts on southern Lake Garda in Desenzano/Sirmione. You then cycle counter-clockwise around the glistening lake and experience not only the fascination of the water, but also the beautiful regions that surround Lake Garda. The surrounding area is also worth seeing and, above all, tasting. Regional delicacies await you all along the way.

The highlights of the cycle tour around Lake Garda at a glance:

Peschiera fortress: On the second day, our cycle tour takes you to a historical highlight, the fortress of Peschiera. Formerly a stone gatehouse in the town wall, today it is a fascinating gateway to the old town. Completely surrounded by water, the star-shaped fortress impresses with its ancient and romantic charm.

Sarca Valley: One of the largest rivers in Trentino is the Sarca. The Sarca Valley of the same name runs north of Lake Garda as far as the Adamello-Brenta Nature Park. Our tour also offers unique views of the valley.

The Alpine lakes: Two other lakes almost steal the show from Lake Garda on this tour: Lake Ledro and Lake Idro. The alpine lakes have excellent water quality and are surrounded by a picturesque mountain panorama.

Things to know about a cycling vacation on Lake Garda

After your arrival in Desenzano/Sirmione, you can cycle around Lake Garda in just seven days. However, as there is unfortunately no cycle path that runs directly along the shore, this route often takes you inland. But this is not a disadvantage at all, as it also gives you a great insight into the regions that surround Lake Garda.

Tour program

Day 1

Arrival to Desenzano/Sirmione

Take a stroll through the historic centre and along the lakeside.

Hotel (example): Bonotto

You cycle on gently hilly terrain through the wine-growing area of Lugana to the shores of the river Mincio. This river takes you to the historic fortress complex of Peschiera and back to Lake Garda. For a few kilometres the cycle path runs directly along the lakeside and lateron slightly leads you into the hinterland. Through orchards and Bardolino vines you return to the shore, which you follow under shady pine trees all the way into the charming lake resort Garda.

Hotel (example): La Perla

You leave the shore towards the Adige river valley. With this you once again enjnoy the marvellous views across the lake and follow the cycle route through olive groves and vines. At the Adige-cycle path you then continue leisurely northward always accompanied by countless fruit trees. As early as Mori you leave the river again and continue across the Passo san Giovanni to Torbole or onwards to Riva. Shortly before you reach Lake Garda again, you enjoy once again a breathtaking view across the lake and the SValle del Sarca-valley.

Hotel (example): Canarino

One of the largest rivers in the Trentino is the river Sarca. You follow it along a best-designed cycle path from Torbole into the valley until Pietramurata. The village is surrounded by the highest Lake Garda mountainsides and offers a fantastic view. Enjoy the quiet in this nature park and visit the fortress in Arco before you reach the shores of Lake Garda again.

Hotel (example): Canarino

In the morning a transfer takes you up to Lake Ledro. You follow the same-named valley to the next picturesque alpine lake. Lake Idro is your companion for a while. You will be delighted by its outstanding water quality and its marvellous mountain panorama. Along the cycle path through the Val Sabbia-valley you then always cycle slightly downhill until the mighty Lake Garda opens up in front of you again. In Salò stroll along the flower-adorned promenade and enjoy a smooth Gelato.

Hotel (example): Rivalta

The last stage of the bike ride takes you through gently hilly terrain into the hinterland. Lugana, Chiaretto and Groppello are the typical and historic wines of Lake Garda. When you reach the starting point of your journey again, you should toast to an eventful and wonderful bike tour with one of these varieties.
