Der Himmel an sich ist für die meisten Menschen ungesehen geblieben. Der Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek führt in eine abgelegene Region des Landes, in der sich die Landschaft seit Jahrhunderten nicht verändert hat. Ein geheimes Gebiet in den Ausläufern des dritthöchsten Gipfels der Welt. Man nennt es den Wohnsitz der Götter. Die gesamte Wanderung führt Sie durch geheimnisvolle Wälder und zu den großen Gipfeln des Himalayas.


Eine der am wenigsten besuchten Gegenden des Landes. Abgelegen und wunderschön - eine Chance, die Sie sich entgehen lassen, wenn Sie nicht die Nebenstraßen erkunden und die authentischen Menschen kennenlernen. Ein riesiges Gebiet mit wenigen Einwohnern und vielen Legenden, wo die Natur selbst Kultur ist.


Überblick:

Der Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek führt Sie durch kleine Bergdörfer, wilde Regenwälder, abgelegene alpine Gebiete, vorbei an Flussläufen, Gletschern und Moränen und schließlich zum Fuß des dritthöchsten Berges der Welt. Hier werden Ziele zum Leben erweckt und das Trekking-Erlebnis ist so ehrlich, wie es nur sein kann. Bei diesem Trekking werden Sie nicht von den herrlichen Ausblicken auf die Landschaften beeindruckt sein, sondern von den Menschen, denen Sie begegnen.


Nach einer ausführlichen Besichtigung des Kathmandutals mit all seinen Wundern geht es am nächsten Tag nach Suketar. Ein Rundflug bringt Sie nach Bhadrapur, von wo aus Sie eine lange Fahrt nach Suketar antreten. Suketar ist der Ausgangspunkt Ihres Trekkings. Sie durchqueren die üppige, tiefe Wildnis der subtropischen Wälder und erreichen das Dorf Lali Kharka, das Weideland der Region. Anschließend wandern Sie durch den Urwald und erreichen das Dorf Kande Bhanjyang. Dann gehen Sie in Richtung des Dorfes Phumphe Danda und folgen dabei verschiedenen Flussläufen und durchqueren subtropische Wälder.


Im Dorf Phumphe Danda werden Sie Zeuge der hinreißenden Schönheit der Region und fahren weiter zur Siedlung Yamphudin. Als nächstes überqueren Sie den Lassiya Bhanjyang Pass und erreichen das kleine Dorf Tortong. Am nächsten Tag gewinnen Sie an Höhe, indem Sie auf den Spuren des Yalung-Gletschers bis nach Ramche wandern. Genießen Sie die herrlichen Ausblicke auf die Gipfel von Koktang, Rathong und Kabru, die Bergseen und die kristallklaren Flüsse entlang des Weges. Der Weg führt Sie dann entlang einer weiteren Gletscherspur des Yalung Ri Gletschers zu der kleinen Siedlung Oktang. Sie folgen den Spuren des Berglandes und überqueren Moränen, loses Gestein und trockene Landschaften, bis Sie das südliche Basislager erreichen. Vom Basislager aus haben Sie einen atemberaubenden Blick auf die Landschaft. Großartige Ausblicke auf den Yalung-Gletscher und mehrere Seen. Die Berggipfel des Rathong mit 6682 Metern, die Kabru-Kette mit 7412 Metern, die Südwand des Kanchenjunga mit 8598 Metern und der Jannu mit 7710 Metern.


Dann durchqueren Sie verschiedene Hochtäler und steigen auf bewaldeten Pfaden in Richtung Tsheram ab. Als Nächstes fahren Sie in Richtung Selele und überqueren dabei einen Bergpass, den Mirgin La Pass. Von der Passhöhe aus haben Sie einen großartigen Panoramablick auf den Jannu, den Makalu, den Gyakung Kang, den Everest, den Lhotse, den Chamalang und die entfernten Berge. Dann führt Sie der Weg durch einen alten Wald mit großartigen Ausblicken auf die Landschaft zum letzten Dorf im Tal Ghunsa. Von Ghunsa aus überqueren Sie mehrere Hänge und Gletschermoränen und erreichen das kleine tibetische Dorf Kambachen.


Als nächstes überqueren Sie die Nordseite des Kanchenjunga-Gletschers auf unebenen Pfaden und durchqueren ein flaches Gelände, vorbei am Lhonak-Gletscher, bis Sie das Dorf Lhonak erreichen. Vom Dorf aus haben Sie eine großartige Aussicht auf den Wedge Peak, den Mera Peak, den Nepal Peak und den Twins Peak. Weiter geht es zum Kanchenjunga North Base Camp. Vom Basislager aus haben Sie einen großartigen Panoramablick auf den Kanchenjunga, den Janu Himal, den Everest, den Makalu, den Tharpu Chuli, den Kabru und unzählige andere Bergketten. Am nächsten Tag erkunden Sie das Basislager und besuchen verschiedene Aussichtspunkte, von denen aus Sie einen großartigen Blick auf die Landschaft haben, und fahren weiter nach Ghunsa. Ein kleines tibetisches Dorf im Herzen der Wildnis.


Dann folgen Sie der tiefen Wildnis aus Wacholder-, Kiefern- und Rhododendronwäldern und erreichen das Dorf Amjilosa. Tag 1

Ankunft in Kathmandu (1400 Meter)

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by a representative from Alpine Club of Himalaya who will drop you off at our hotel. After checking in, you take a rest or stroll around the streets of Thamel, a tourist hub in Kathmandu. In the evening, join in for a welcome dinner hosted by the Alpine Club of Himalaya.

After breakfast, head on a guided tour of the valley towards various historical and spiritual attractions. Some of these landmarks are considered World Heritage Sites including the historic Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the famous Monkey Temple (Swayambhunath), and the Buddhist shrine of Bouddhanath, the largest stupas in the world. In the afternoon join in for a short briefing regarding the trip with your trekking leader and other team members. Overnight in Kathmandu.

After breakfast head towards the domestic airport and catch a flight to Bhadrapur a bustling town located in the southeastern region of the country. Upon reaching Bhadrapur proceed towards Suketar. The drive takes around seven to eight hours taking you from the plain lands of Terai to the youngest Hill line present in the southern part of the country.

Today is your first day of the trek. Start the trek by following the forested trails. Traversing across the lush deep wilderness of sub-tropical woodlands. As you gain altitude you will come across pasture land. A brief walk and you will reach the village of Lali Kharka. Upon reaching Kharka head towards your accommodation. Later head out to explore the area.

After breakfast follows the ascending tracks to the tiny village of Simbu. Next, walk through the old-growth woodlands on an ascending route to reach Kande Bhanjyang Village. Along the trail pass through several small villages dotted along the hillside and deep wilderness of central Nepal.

Duration: 5-6 hours

Today’s trail takes you traversing along steep hillsides passing terraced farmlands high above the rapids of the Kabbeli Khola. Then the trail takes you passing through valleys and across hillsides. As you progress on the trail you will eventually reach Anpan Village. From here head on descending tracks to Kashawa Khola. Next, cross the rapids and begin an uphill climb through the terrace farms and lush agriculture fields. Following the trail, you will finally reach Phumphe Danda Village.

Following the ridge section high above the Kabeli Khola start the trek. Crossing several small river networks and lush valleys. Following the ravishing beauty of the landscape traversing across impenetrable jungles reach the settlement of Yamphudin.

Traversing through the old-growth forest start your trek. Following the forested trail covered with wet sub-tropical woodlands of rhododendron with moss and orchid draped trees and miles of undergrowth. As you gain altitude witness grand views of the Himalayas. Following the rapids of Amji Khola upstream head towards the base of Lassiya Bhanjyang Pass. The climb to the pass is non-technical from the top witness grand views of the landscapes and the Himalayas. Next following the descending routes reach the tiny village of Tortong.

Start today's trek traversing across the riverbank and crossing through lush and deep rhododendron and conifer woodlands. Next, the trail takes you on a rapid descent towards the valley of the Simjua Khola (river). Then traversing across the base of the Yalung Glacier and through valleys reach Ramche. Along the way witness magnificent views of Koktang, Rathong, Kabru peaks, alpine lakes, and crystal clear rivers.

Wake up early and witness the grand views of the sun rising. After breakfast start your trek, as you progress witness the close-up view of Mt. Kanchenjunga and Jannu. Following the stony and arid trails of Yalung Ri Glacier reach Oktang. From the village witness grand views of the greater Himalayan range.

Duration: 4-5 hours

Today's trek will take you to the southern base camp of Kanchenjunga also known as Yalung Base Camp. The trail is non-technical but altitude may be a problem for some. Following the tracks of mountain country traversing across moraines, loose rocks and arid landscape reach the base camp. From the base witness astonishing views of the landscapes. Grand views of the Yalung Glacier and several Lakes. Mountain peaks of Rathong at 6682 meters, Kabru range at 7412 meters, the south face of Kanchenjunga at 8598 meters, and Jannu at 7710 meters.

Following the tracks across the mountain country start the trek. Along the way witness grand views of the greater Himalayas, frozen lakes and the icefall of the Yalung Glacier. As you progress on the trail cross various high valleys and descend down to forested trails. Traversing along the dense woodland you will finally reach Tsheram.


Maximum Altitude: 4840m (Yalung Base Camp)

Duration: 5-6 hours

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Accommodation: Guesthoust



Following the trailhead down into the valley. As you progress the trail leads you to the path to Lapsang La Pass. A trail leading to Ghunsa and to the north side of Kanchenjunga. A brief walk from here and you will eventually reach the base of Mirgin La Pass. The climb to the pass is non-technical, traversing a steep ascending route reach the top of the pass. From the top witness grand panoramic views of Jannu, Mt. Makalu, Gyakung Kang, Everest, Lhotse, Chamalang, and distant hills. From the pass head on a descending trail and finally, reach the settlement of Selele.

Descending through lush pine and rhododendron woodlands covered with miles of undergrowth. Walking amongst the old-growth forest with grand views of the landscape reach the village of Ghunsa, the last village in the valley. Upon reaching Ghunsa explore the charming Tibetan village with wooden houses and colorful fluttering prayer flags. Also, visit the monasteries of the region and attend to monks chanting text and practicing rituals.

After breakfast head on the trail, following through stunning pine and rhododendron forests on the southern banks of the Ghunsa Khola. Along the way witness various Chortens and Mani walls. As you gain altitude the forest thins out taking you to high mountain country with exposed terrain. Progress on the trail crossing several slopes and glacier moraines and reach the tiny Tibetan village of Kambachen. From the village witness grand views of the Himalayas.

Today's trek is short but gains in altitude so take it slow and have frequent rest. Following the arid trail with patches of shrubs reach the source of the Ghunsa Khola. Next, traverse on the northern side of the Kanchenjunga Glacier and then follow the trail on a flat terrain past the Lhonak Glacier. Crossing the glacier reach the village of Lhonak. From the village witness grand views of Wedge peak, Mera peak, Nepal peak, and Twins peak.

Today is the most exciting day of your trek as you will be reaching the base camp of the third highest mountain in the world. Leave Lhonak following the trails of the Lhonak Glacier on the northern ridges. Traversing across stony steps and loose surfaces eventually reach Kanchenjunga Base Camp. From the base camp witness grand panoramic views of the grand Mt. Kanchenjunga at 8,586 meters/28,169 feet, Janu Himal at 7,710 meters/25,300 feet, Everest at 8,849 meters/29,032 feet, Makalu at 8,463 meters/26,247 feet, Tharpu Chuli 5,695 meters/18,684 feet, Kabru 7,412 meters/24,318 feet and endless other mountain ranges.

Wake up early and head towards the northern ridge of Pang Pema. A vantage point of 200 to 300m from the base camp. From the vantage point witness outstanding views of the mighty Kanchenjunga, Wedge Peak, the Twins, and Tent Peak glowing with the rays of sun. After soaking in the grand views retrace your steps back to Kambachen.

Today's trail is most on downward sections. Following the trail reach the lush and deep wilderness of the region. Traversing across this trail get a sense and beauty of the old-growth forest. As you progress on you will eventually reach Ghunsa. A tiny Tibetan village perched in the heart of the wilderness.

After soaking in the grand views of the sunrise head towards the trail. Leaving Ghunsa after an hour's trek reach the village of Phale. Here visit various monasteries and attend to monks chanting prayers and practicing rituals. Next following the deep wilderness of juniper, pine, and rhododendron woodlands finally reach the tiny village of Amjilosa. After refreshment head out to explore the village.

Duration: 6-7 hours

The trek starts with a brief ascent following the impenetrable jungles. Next, descend a steep section. As you progress on the trail reach the confusion of the Tamur and Ghunsa Khola. A brief walk from here and you will eventually reach Sakathum.

Duration: 5-6 hours

Start by crossing the rapids of the Simbu Khola, a river originating from the Kanchenjunga’s south base camp. Then traversing across hill section of lush tropical woodlands. As you progress cross several streams and eventually reach the village of Chirwa. A small village set among large boulders.

Duration: 5-6 hours

Today is your last day of the trek and the trail brings you to impenetrable woodlands with miles of undergrowth. Along the trail witness the extraordinary biodiversity of the region. Traversing across small hillside settlements and wild rain forests reach the picturesque village, Taplejung. Upon reaching the village after a brief rest celebrate your success of the trek with your team.

After breakfast head on a long drive towards Bhadrapur. The drive takes you from the central hills to the southern flat lands of the country. Upon reaching Bhadrapur head towards your accommodation. Later head out to explore around.

Duration: 8-10 hours

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Accommodation: Guesthouse



Catch an early morning flight from Bhadrapur to Kathmandu. The flight offers you grand views of the landscapes. Upon reaching Kathmandu head towards your accommodation. Later head out to explore the valley. In the evening join in for a farewell dinner program to mark the end of your adventure.
