This impressive diversity makes the Tauern Cycle Path a true feast for all the senses.
Details of the route on the Tauern Cycle Path to Passau
Krimml is your starting point in the Hohe Tauern, from where you first reach Zell am See. Even in the summer months, you can enjoy views of snow-capped mountain peaks from the lakeshore, while numerous water sports options await you. The pointed church tower in Maria Alm or the mystical Seisenbergklamm gorge are just a few popular photo motifs on the way to Lofer. Salzburg doesn't make it any easier for you - do you visit the fortress first or the Getreidegasse?
Along the Inn, the landscape becomes increasingly flat as you pass picturesque Burghausen, baroque Obernberg and the magnificent Reichersberg Abbey. Don't leave Schärding on the left before you roll comfortably towards the city on three rivers. Here, student flair meets Bavarian culture and Venetian esprit - the perfect end to a successful vacation.
The highlights of the trip from Krimml
The Krimml Falls: Don't leave the starting point of this trip without a visit to the famous waterfalls. After all, with a drop of 380 meters over three levels, they are the largest in Europe. And they are good for your health, as the water particles in the air are said to have positive effects on the respiratory tract. Incidentally, the waterfalls have been considered particularly worthy of protection in the Hohe Tauern National Park since 1984.
Picturesque Burghausen: The castle in the Bavarian town of Burghausen is just over a kilometer long - few other castles in the world can compete with it and it is even the largest castle complex in Central Europe.
The baroque town of Schärding: Plan a stop in the charming town of Schärding on the last few kilometers of your cycling vacation. The Silberzeile with its many colorful town houses is a real feast for the eyes - a stop at one of the many restaurants on the town square is a treat for the palate. Learn interesting facts about the formative craftsmanship in the granite museum and visit the love-struck Frenchman in the castle park.
