ACCRA CITY TOUR

Welcome to the thriving metropolis of Accra, which today combines modern buildings with those from colonial times to offer you a wonderful experience. After a lavish breakfast at your hotel, you go out to see this 120-year-old city’s historical attractions. The W.E.B. Du Bois Center, which honors the life of the well-known Pan-Africanist who decided to reside and work in Ghana, will be our first stop. We’ll keep going to Independence Square, where you can see the encased African Liberation Flame, established there in 1961 by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. The first president of Ghana’s last resting place is the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. ACCRA | MANKESSIM | CAPE COAST

Following a leisure breakfast, we will depart for yet another adventure in the Coastal lands of Ghana - Cape Coast & Elmina. This region has had the most significant effect on the lives of Africans in the diaspora. En route, we shall make a stop at Mankessim, a famous settlement of one of Ghana’s Akan tribes, and you will see the Posuban Shrines.

Upon arrival in Cape Coast, visit the Cape Coast Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The castle is a thought-provoking monument to a harrowing period in the region’s history. You will take an emotional journey through the castle, which held more enslaved Africans than any other in the region, viewing the dungeons and the infamous “Door of no return”.

There is a significant historical museum inside, which explains the history of the castle and of Cape Coast itself. You can purchase literature on Ghana’s forts and castles, as well as the cultural history and traditions of Ghana. You will be transferred to your hotel. Dinner at the hotel.

Go to the canopy walk now. Africa’s only aerial walkway across the forest canopy, a 1000-foot path with seven bridges and viewing platforms that rise more than 150 feet above the earth, is located in Kakum.

This evening you will enjoy a performance by the local bamboo orchestra, Mesomagor group consists of young villagers who have revived a traditional art by performing music and dance with bamboo percussion instruments. CAPE COAST | ASSIN MANSO | KUMASI

After a well-deserved breakfast and check out, we depart for Kumasi, the seat of the Ashanti Empire, where legend is still evident today. The Ashanti form the biggest Akan ethnic group in Ghana. For centuries, they were the rulers in this region because of their well-organized society. En route, stop at Assin Manso, where two former slaves from the United States and Jamaica were re-interred in August 1998 as part of Ghana’s first Emancipation Day celebration. You will visit the “Slave River,” which was used to wash captured Africans before they were held in slave castles and prepared for transport to the Americas and the Caribbean.

Upon arrival in Kumasi late afternoon, we will tour Manhyia Palace, which served as the Asantehene’s formal residence until 1974. The palace is now a museum that houses precious artifacts from the Ashanti Kingdom.

KUMASI & VICINITY

After breakfast, embark on a fascinating cultural journey through the renowned Ashanti craft villages, where centuries-old traditions continue to thrive.

Your first stop is Ahwiaa, Ghana’s celebrated woodcarving village. Here, skilled artisans transform locally sourced wood into beautifully crafted royal stools, walking sticks, fertility dolls, masks, and other traditional creations. Watch the craftsmen at work and browse a wide selection of authentic hand-carved souvenirs and gifts.

Continue to Ntonso, the home of traditional Adinkra textiles. Discover the art of hand-stamping symbolic patterns onto cotton cloth using natural dyes made from tree bark. Learn about the meanings behind the Adinkra symbols and their cultural significance, particularly in ceremonies and special occasions. Enjoy a hands-on experience as you create your own Adinkra sash to take home, and explore a variety of handcrafted textiles available for purchase.

The final stop is Bonwire, the birthplace of Ghana’s famous Kente cloth. Witness master weavers skillfully creating intricate and colorful Kente fabrics on traditional looms, preserving a craft that has been passed down through generations. Gain insight into the history and symbolism of this iconic textile and take the opportunity to purchase authentic Kente products as memorable keepsakes.

After lunch, return to your hotel and spend the remainder of the day at leisure, relaxing and enjoying the hotel's facilities at your own pace.
