Itinerary

The Everest Chola Pass Trek is an extended form of the Everest Base Camp Trek and is a fully-fledged adventurous trek that takes you above the demanding routes of the Himalayas of Nepal. Along with the thrills of traversing Chola Pass (5300m) that rewards you with glorious views of the astronomical Mount Everest, you will also get the opportunity to experience the various Sherpa culture and their unique traditions and extraordinary way of life at the Himalayas. The Everest Chola Pass Trek also encapsulates the dainty and picturesque valleys of Gokyo, all the while offering you magnificent sights of the mountains, Aegean glaciers and the holy Gokyo Lakes along the trails.

Flying from Kathmandu to Lukla, you will start your trek trudging through lush and vibrant acreages of emerald alpine forests, crossing serpentine rivers that cross the continuity of the land with their essence to reach Namche Bazaar. The trail also leads through Sagarmatha National Park, a conservatory Area which has miles of thick beautiful foliages and habituation of unique fauna which you can get glimpses of while you traverse through it. On reaching Namche Bazaar, the famous hub of the Khumbu region and the gateway to Everest, you will be presented with magnificent mountain views like Mount Everest, Mount Ama Dablam, Mount Lhotse, Mount Thamserku and Mount Nuptse among many others. From Namche, you would be hiking to Tengboche and will visit the elusive Tengboche monastery, richly decorated and intricately ornamented with colorful prayer flags and murals. The monastery is the religious epicenter of the Khumbu region and is one of the largest Buddhist monasteries of the area. The Tengboche monastery also presents beguiling views of the mountains, the golden spire of the monastery contrasting against the navy blue of the sky and the ivory of the snow.

The Everest Chola Pass Trek also allows you to walk alongside the Khumbu Glacier to get to the Everest Base Camp, all the while the trekking trail is adorned by majestic views of the colossal mountains that keep you company. The terrific panoramic views of the mountains like Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, the Pumori and Chagatse among many others from the vantage point at Kala Patthar is one of the most amazing sights to ever grace the eyes!

Traversing along the icy path beside the Chola glacier, you would be hiking on the Chola Pass. Day 1

Arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu.

Escape Himalaya’s airport representative will welcome you as you arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport. We will help you be transferred to your hotel in Kathmandu. You will also get brief description about the trek. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 2

Fly to Lukla and trek to Phakding (2652m/8699ft), Duration

We will fly to Lukla from Kathmandu today; it is a short, but very beautiful, experience. Lukla, lying at the height of 2810m, is the initial destination from where our trek starts. With an easy walk, we will pass through a village- Chaurikharka. We will then walk to the Dudh Koshi Ghat, from where we will follow the shore of the Dudh Koshi River in order to get to Phakding (2652m). Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 3

Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440m/11283ft), Duration

We will, on this day too, follow the Dudh Koshi River which takes you to Zamphuti. From here, you can see exceptional vistas of the Thamserku Peak. We will also pass by Chomoa, where we can see majority of people spending their lives depending on agriculture. Then after, we will move uphill and go into the Sagarmatha National Park which conserves lots of wild lives and plants, covering the area of 1148sq km in Monjo. Continuing further, we will finally reach Namche Bazaar. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 4

Namche Bazar - Everest View Hotel - Return

At Namche Bazaar, we will acclimatize for a day to avoid altitude sickness. We will also climb to Everest View Hotel and experience short hiking on the day. Everest View Hotel presents wonderful vistas of Everest, Ama Dablam and many more. We will also stroll to the Khumjung village where we can visit the monastery. We will, after that, walk back to Namche again. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 5

Trek to Tengboche (3860m/12660ft), Duration

We will leave Namche Bazaar and stroll for some time along the edges of the settlement, and then move down to Dudh Koshi River in Phungki Thanka. We will walk across the river via a bridge and then ascend on the steep trail up to Tengboche where we will get to see wonderful peak views of Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse, Thamserku and many more. In Tengboche, you will visit the largest monastery of the Khumbu region named after the place- the Tengboche monastery. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 6

Trek to Dingboche (4410m/14464ft), Duration

On this day, we will start trekking along the rhododendron woods to Deboche. We will also pass through the jovially intense Imja River by means of a suspension bridge. We will also walk into Pangboche village, the biggest community inhabited mainly by Sherpa people, where we can visit Pangboche monastery, one of an ancient monasteries in the region. We will have fairly demanding walk in the afternoon as the surroundings turns dry and isolated before reaching Dingboche. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 7

Dingboche to Nagerjun (5100m/16728ft) and return

We will have one more rest day to acclimatize properly. Your body will need rest and rejuvenation. We will yet experience another short hike to Nagerjun set at the altitude of 5100m. At Nagerjun, the eye-catching views of Toboche Peak (6367m), Kangtega (6685m), Lobuche West (6145m), Thamserku (6608m), Lobuche East (6119m) and Ama Dablam (6856m) are hypnotizing. Then, we will come back to Dingboche. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 8

Trek to Lobuche (4910m/16105ft), Duration

On this day, we will leave Dingboche and get to Dugla- set at the tip of the Khumbu Glacier. With a vertical and short climb up, we will stroll to Chukpo Lari where we will get to observe memorials built in honor to the ones who lost their lives while climbing Everest. The point also rewards us with a dramatic vista of the peaks. With an easy walk, we will then finally reach Lobuche (4,910m). Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 9

Trek to Everest Base Camp (5364m/17594ft) then back to Gorekshep (5181m/16994ft), Duration

We will have an important and rewarding, yet difficult day as we leave Lobuche today. We will walk along the Khumbu Glacier to reach Everest Base Camp lying at the height of 5364 meters. This is the base of the highest peak on earth, Mt. Everest- where you will be rewarded by majestic views of Ama Dablam, Tawache and Everest itself and several other peaks. The sight of the Khumbu Ice fall from here is extremely impressive. We will return back to Gorekshep for the night. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 10

Hiking to Kala Pathar (5545m/18188ft) - Gorekshep and trek to Dzongla (4830m/15840ft), Duration

Hiking to Kala Pathar is another important day of the trek. Kala Patthar lies at the altitude of 5545 meters. The ascent is quite challenging but the superb mountain panorama of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Pumori, Chagatse, and innumerable others will take away the entire tiring experience once you reach at the apex. We will then descend to Gorakshep and then trek upward to Dzongla which is located at the height of 4830m. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 11

Trek to Dragnak/Thangna (4700m/15415ft) via crossing Cho La pass (5420m/17780ft), Duration

We will, on this day, begin walking on a flat stony path and also walk through the barren valley. Then, we move up in the vertical path to Chola pass which is set at the height of 5420m. We will also pass the icy path along Chola glacier before traversing the pass. From Chola pass, we will move down through the rock-strewn path before we arrive at Phedi. From Phedi, we will walk down to Thangna, a small village holding some lodges and tea shops. Thangna also rewards you with the peak views like Machhermo peak and some others. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 12

Trek to Gokyo lakes (4790m/15710ft), Duration

We will trek for around 3 hours from Thangna today to reach the holy Gokyo Lake which lies at the altitude of 4790m. You will be passing along series of Gokyo lakes in synchrony- Longpongo, Toboche Tsho and Dudh Pokhari, before discovering Gokyo. You can also explore the stunning Gokyo valley. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 13

Hiking to Gokyo RI (5483m/19083ft) and trek to Dole (4200m/13775), Duration

On this day, we will hike to Gokyo RI lying at the height of 5483m, which lies over the village in the northern side of Gokyo Lake. From the crest of Gokyo RI, we can see the stunning views of highest mountains like Everest, Makalu, and Lhotse. The superb views of the upper Gokyo valley, as well as the massive Ngozumpa Glacier, will also allure us. We will also walk down to Gokyo and trek to Dole set at 4200m following the Dudh Koshi River. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 14

Trek to Namche (3440m/11285ft), Duration

We will, on this day, trek from Dole to Namche Bazaar, which takes approximately 6 hours. You will also traverse the Khumjung village en-route to Namche Bazaar. We will walk along the trail, passing the views of the astonishing Ama Dablam and then finally reach Namche Bazaar. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 15

Trek to Lukla (2800m/9184ft), Duration

From Namche, we will walk ahead and traverse the Dudh Koshi River again. After that, we will walk to Monjo. Trekking ahead from Namche Bazaar, we will reach Phakding and carry on walking to Lukla. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 16

Fly back to Kathmandu

With a short and picturesque flight, we will go back from Lukla to Kathmandu. You will be transferred to the hotel from Tribhuwan International Airport. Overnight stay at the hotel. Breakfast included.

Day 17

Leisure day

This is a spare day you will spend in Kathmandu. You can either walk around Kathmandu or go for shopping. Overnight stay at the hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 16

Farewell

Today, the airport representative from Escape Himalaya will help you transfer to the Tribhuwan International Airport. And, you will leave Nepal, hopefully with beautiful memories of your trip.

General Booking Conditions

For Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan Tours: Provide us a photocopy of your passport and 20% of trip cost as a deposit while booking your trip with us. The deposit amount is nonrefundable.

Risk and Liabilities

All the Nepal, China and Bhutan Tours are conducted under the strict rules and regulations of the tourism board of the respective countries. We are not liable for any changes or cancellations of the trip under unavoidable circumstances like the change in rules and regulations of Country, Government restrictions, natural disasters, political instability and cancellation of flights, delays, sickness or accident and breakdown of vehicles. Any extra cost incurred due to such circumstances shall be borne by the clients themselves. Therefore, Travel Insurance is mandatory.

Last Minute Booking

We accept last minute bookings. You can book a trip to Nepal 7 days prior to the trip departure dates. Last minute booking may not be acceptable in the cases of Bhutan or Tibet Trips.

Postponing the Trip

A written notice should be sent to us 30 days prior to the trip departure date.

In case of postponing of Nepal Tour, minimum USD 150 will be charged as a current trip cancellation charge and the remaining amount will be transferred for the postponed trip.

In case of postponing of Tibet and Bhutan Tour, a trip cancellation charge will be charged as per the trending market rate of those countries. It solely depends upon the ongoing policy of our agents in Tibet and Bhutan. For now, 20% of trip costs and 50% of trip costs will be charged in case of postponing of Bhutan and Tibet Trip respectively.

Trip Cancellation (Nepal)

In case you intend to cancel your trip for any reasons, you need to write it to us 14 days prior to your trip departure date. We shall approve it as canceled only after receiving a valid written notice from the client. If the reason for your cancellation is genuine like injury or serious illness, you can postpone your trip or transfer your booking to another person who meets all the requirements for the trip. However, a fee of USD 150 per person will be charged if you postpone or transfer your trip within 15 days prior to your trip date. As per our policy, the deposit amount is non-refundable, therefore, you can utilize the amount to book a trip with Escape Himalaya next time.

Trip Cancellation (Bhutan)

A valid written notice of cancellation should be provided 30 days prior to your trip departure date. In case you cancel your Bhutan Tour, 20% of the trip cost will be charged as a cancellation charge (even in case of postponing or transfer of a trip to another person). The remaining amount will remain secured with Escape Himalaya as a deposit from you. You can utilize it to book the tour with Escape Himalaya next time. The amount is non-refundable.

Trip Cancellation (Tibet)

A valid written notice of cancellation should be provided 30 days prior to your trip departure date. In case you cancel your Tibet tour, 50% of the trip cost will be charged as a cancellation charge (even in case of postponing or transfer of a trip to another person). The remaining amount will remain secured with Escape Himalaya as a deposit from you. You can utilize it to book the tour with Escape Himalaya next time. The amount is non-refundable.

Incomplete Tour

We are not liable for any refunds in cases of any incomplete tour, trek or expedition whatever the reason.

Unforeseen Circumstances

If your trip gets canceled due to any unforeseen circumstances like natural disasters, war or unfavorable climatic conditions, we will arrange another trip for you. Thus, even if your trip isn’t the one you chose, your money will not go in vain.

Price Changing

We reserve our rights to change the price under various circumstances. Though our action will be reasonably pertaining to cases of some circumstances such as the drastic change in exchange rate, inflation, government actions, and others, we are not liable to answer to anyone for our action.

Travel Insurance

We highly recommend a comprehensive travel insurance package to all our clients. The insurance must cover all the medical expense, personal accident, emergency evacuation, and trip cancellation, loss of gears and natural calamity, theft of or damage to baggage and personal effects and helicopter services in the mountains.

Flight Delay/Cancellation

Flight delays and cancellation tend to happen quite often during bad weather conditions in remote areas, particularly in the Everest region, the Annapurna region, Dolpo, Simikot and Jumla region. Therefore, it is advisable to carry some extra money to buy food and accommodations in case of delays. Escape Himalaya will not be responsible for any of the additional expenses. Therefore, please plan accordingly.

Your Personal Belongings

We are not liable for any damage or loss of your luggage or property. They are at your own risk.

During the Tour

In case you commit any unlawful act during your tour and you are compelled to leave Nepal, Escape Himalaya is not liable for any kind of refunds.
