This professionally designed climbing itinerary takes you on the hike to the most popular trekking destination of Everest Base Camp and then to Kala Pattar first for the close-up views of Mt. Everest before summiting Island Peak. The name Island Peak was given to the mountain in 1952 by Eric Shipton who thought it to be reminiscent of an island in a sea of ice. It is also known as "Imja Tse" in the Sherpa language.

We take an exciting mountain flight to Lukla and trek up the Dudh Kosi Valley, surrounded by the soaring peaks of Thamserku and Kusum Kanguru. It’s a steep ascent to Namche Bazaar, capital of the Khumbu Sherpas, where we are again greeted by spectacular mountain vistas. A rest day here aids acclimatization and there are great optional walks to enjoy the area.

We continue trekking to Tengboche, then to Lobuche and accommodate at high altitude in Gorak Shep. After enjoying magnificent views of Mt. Everest and the surrounding peaks, we continue descending to Chukhung to prepare for the ascent of Island Peak. After a day of walking from Chhukung we reach the Island Peak Base Camp to prepare for attempting the peak. It may take an additional day or two to scale the peak depending on weather conditions. For some people reaching to the summit from the base camp is a day activity. However, some climbers prefer alpine style camping at high camp which adds the joy of climbing and also helps a safe ascent. After a successful climbing we return at our leisurely pace back to Namche and Lukla for our return flight to Kathmandu.

After hiking for a while, we come upon Sagarmatha National Park and go through entry permit verification in the Everest region. We arrive in the charming Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar in the early evening.

Trekking at higher elevations can lead to altitude sickness and other severe illnesses. That is why it is a must to acclimate to the increasing elevation. The initial acclimatization day on the Everest Base Camp Trek is scheduled in Namche Bazaar. It is the main trading center in the Everest Region run by the Sherpa people. Here you can purchase various things such as trekking equipment and local handicrafts and find accommodations like hotels and guesthouses.

On this day, we acclimate at Namche Bazaar by hiking to nearby destinations. We make our way to Sherpa Cultural Museum and discover the history and culture of the Sherpa community. Afterward, we hike up to Syanboche Airport (the highest airport in Nepal) and Hotel Everest View (the highest hotel on the planet). Gorgeous vistas of Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse, and other peaks can be seen from here.

Overnight at a guesthouse. Meals excluded.

The trail to Tengboche is rocky. The route descends early in the day and then climbs up to Tengboche.

Begin the trek advancing along the Dudh Koshi River. Witness the enchanting sight of the mountains along the way. Advance to Phungi Thenga, passing through the lovely rhododendron forest. Moving further, you arrive at Tengboche with an astonishing view of Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and Nuptse. The stunning views of lush rhododendron forest, glacier, rivers, and monasteries along the trek is rewarding.

After arriving in Tengboche, we visit the Tengboche monastery and observe Lamas performing a prayer ceremony either in the morning or evening.

Overnight at a guesthouse. Meals excluded.

After spending a night in Tengboche, we head for Dingboche in the morning. The trek moves on to Deboche through the alpine forest, and we cross Imja Khola via a suspension bridge. On the way, we come across a wall inscribed with stones. Later in the day, you will be rewarded with a captivating view of Ama Dablam. After we ascend to the village of Pangboche and follow the trail leading to Imja Valley. At long last, we reach Dingboche village after making an ascent.

Overnight at a guesthouse. Meals excluded.

After acclimating for the first time at Namche, we will have a rest day today. Adapting to the increasing altitude and changing environment is essential for the human body to prevent altitude sickness.

Today we acclimate by making a hike to Nangkartsang peak. The view of Ama Dablam from the peak is awe-inspiring. After the acclimatization hike, you can explore the village or relax in the teahouse.

Overnight at a guesthouse. Meals excluded.

On this day, we leave for Lobuche by hiking a gentle climb to Thukla. From this point, you’ll be stunned by the splendid sight of Taboche and Cholatse. Continuing, we pass through the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier and stone memorials. These stone memorials are constructed in memory of the departed souls of climbers, adorned by colorful prayer flags. After a brisk hike, we arrive in Lobuche village. The massive mountain vistas of Nuptse, Lobuche, and Pumori can be seen from the village.

Overnight at a guesthouse. Meals excluded.

Today there are two sections of the trek. First, the trail follows the route to Gorak Shep and then to Everest Base Camp.

After having breakfast, we leave Lobuche hiking along the Khumbu glacier while enjoying the magnificent view of Mt. Nuptse. Soon we reach the village of Gorak Shep. From this point, we continue our trek all the way to Everest Base Camp. The trail ahead is challenging as it is rugged terrain. The captivating view of Khumbu Glacier and Khumbu Icefall is visible along the way.

Once we reach base camp, you will be rewarded with a panoramic view of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Pumori, Khumbutse, and surrounding peaks. It’s a great feeling to be present at the base of the world’s highest mountain. In addition, we may encounter expedition teams and climbers during peak seasons.  We then retrace the path back to Gorak Shep.

Overnight at a guesthouse. Meals excluded.

Today we hike to the highest point of the Everest Base Camp Trek, Kala Patthar. The hike begins very early in the morning with a breathtaking sunrise view over the giant mountains. Kala Patthar is an excellent vantage point for the incredible view of Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori, and Mount Everest.

Embrace every moment of joy and sensational feelings you experience while in Mount Everest’s lap. After enjoying quality time, we make our way down to Gorak Shep and resume our trek following the route down to Pheriche village.

Overnight at a guesthouse. Meals excluded.

From Pheriche, we take a route to Dingboche, and then we ascend to the Chukhung valley.

Overnight at a guesthouse. Meals excluded.

From Chukhung we make a leisurely start following the Imja Valley with great views of Ama Dablam dominating the skyline and follow the moraines that flow from Lhotse (8,501 m) towards the sand flats at Pareshaya Gyab. It is only a short distance from here to the Base Camp, which we will reach in the mid-afternoon. Accommodation will be in a tented camp and you will be having camp food cooked by our professional camping team.

Overnight at a Tented Camp. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner included.

We have allowed two days to climb the Island Peak, although we will probably not require more than one if weather conditions are fine. The strategy for the climb will be decided by our climbing Sherpa leader at the time, taking into account the group’s acclimatization, weather, snow conditions, and other factors. He will provide you with ice climbing training to make you skillful in using climbing gears such as ropes, ice picks, harnesses, crampons, etc. The site of the camp is just below the permanent snowline.

In the morning we leave very early for the final climb to the summit. This may take between four to six hours, depending on snow and weather conditions. We will fix a rope on the summit headwall for safety on both ascent and descent. Although it is not a technically difficult climb, the snow slopes are crevassed, the headwall is reasonably steep and a head for heights is useful. To reach the summit, willpower and stamina are required, but the incredible feeling of achievement atop this 6,187 m giant will remain a lifetime memory.

The view from the summit is utterly fantastic! Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Makalu and Baruntse are the dominant giants rising above a sea of smaller peaks. Given good conditions, we should be able to descend back to Chukhung from our summit attempt.

Overnight at a Tented Camp. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner included.

We have this spare day in case of bad weather on Island Peak. If the weather is good on the climbing day, you can use this spare day somewhere else on the trek.

Overnight at a guesthouse. Meals excluded.

Leaving the mountains behind us, our descent takes us through various towns of Dingboche, Orsho, Shomare, and Lower Pangboche to reach the suspension bridge over the Imja Khola River to ascend gradually through Debuche and then to Tengboche.

Overnight at a guesthouse. Meals excluded.

From Tengboche, we descend steeply through beautiful forests of juniper, rhododendron, and fir to Phunki Tenga. After a welcome break and a cup of tea, we cross the Dudh Kosi River and climb to Trashinga. From here the trail contours high above the valley through to Shanasa, where we have the option of visiting Kunde and Khumjung villages before returning to Namche Bazaar – our stop for the night.

Overnight at a guesthouse. Meals excluded.

The adventure of hiking Everest Base Camp ends today once we reach Lukla. We leave Namche Bazaar for Lukla after breakfast. Since this is your last day in the Everest region, take a walk around the village. Enjoy and celebrate the lifelong moments made along trails of the region.

Overnight at a guesthouse. Meals excluded.
