Your journey begins as soon as you land at Colombo’s Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB). Our friendly tour leader will greet you with a warm smile and a traditional Sri Lankan welcome. From there, we’ll take you to your first stop, the charming coastal town of Negombo, just a short 20-minute drive away. If you are already staying in Colombo or Negombo, we offer pickups from those locations too.

We understand that travel can be tiring, so we’ve made your first day nice and easy. There are no scheduled activities today. You can arrive at your own pace since we provide 24/7 airport transfers and start soaking in the tropical vibes. 

Once you’ve settled into your stylish beachfront hotel, the rest of the day is yours to relax. You can lounge by the pool, take a nap to shake off jet lag, or dip your toes in the Indian Ocean. Your first stop is Polonnaruwa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most impressive archaeological cities in South Asia. Once the royal capital of King Vijayabahu I in 1070 AD, Polonnaruwa features beautifully preserved ruins, ancient shrines, giant Buddha statues, and timeless stone carvings.

Instead of touring by car, hop on a bicycle and ride through this ancient city. It’s the best way to fully experience the grandeur and layout of what was once a thriving kingdom.

In the afternoon, switch gears and head into the wild. You’ll go on an exciting jeep safari in either Minneriya or Kaudulla National Park, based on elephant migration patterns and current wildlife sightings. This area is known for the “Gathering” of wild elephants, where large herds, sometimes over a hundred strong, gather near water sources. Keep your camera ready for unforgettable encounters with elephants, deer, birds, and maybe even a leopard if you’re lucky!

Evening: As the sun sets, retreat to your peaceful nature resort near Sigiriya, surrounded by greenery, birdsong, and the soothing sounds of the wild.

Day Plan: Dambulla Cave Temple, Temple of the Tooth & Cultural Show

On the way to Kandy, stop at the stunning Dambulla Cave Temple, the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. Rising 160 meters above the plains, this ancient rock features five impressive cave sanctuaries. Each sanctuary is decorated with detailed wall paintings and over 150 statues of Buddha, kings, and deities.

With red-brick post offices, rose gardens, and grand mansions, it’s easy to forget you’re in South Asia. 

Day Plan: Gems, Gardens & Tea Trails 

Start your day by visiting a local Gem Museum. You’ll explore the stunning world of Sri Lanka’s top exports. Learn about the rich history of gem mining, how traditional techniques remain in use today, and see the craftsmanship behind famous sapphires, rubies, and moonstones.

As you leave Kandy, stop at the beautiful Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya. This is one of Asia’s top botanical spaces. Walk through carefully arranged gardens that feature:

• The unusual cannonball tree, once planted by King George V

You can lean out the open train door to feel the cool breeze or simply look out the window as the hills pass by. This journey will be one you remember forever.

Day Plan: Trains, Views & Peace in Haputale

This slow train ride offers more than just a way to get around; it’s like a moving postcard. The track winds along tea-covered ridges, past small railway villages, and through clouds that drift low enough to touch. It’s a genuine Sri Lankan highland experience.

When you arrive in Haputale, go to the famous Haputale Viewpoint, where the world appears to drop away into a sea of green. On a clear day, you can see all the way to the southern coast. It’s a calming place to breathe in the crisp mountain air and enjoy stunning views of the valleys and tea estates below.
