About Patundas Trek
Patundas is one of the most rewarding pastures in Gojal region of upper Hunza. Once you reach patundas after a strenuous trek, a world of infinite glacier ranges opens itself to you. More than 16 gigantic 7000m high mountains can be seen from the campsite in Patondas. You have a great view of Batura Peak (7500m), Passu Peak (7284m), Dstegi Sar (7885m), Momil Sar (7342m), Rakaposhi (7788m), and many more 6000m peaks all around you. On the right, you can see the 6th longest glacier Batura Glacier and on the left, the scenic Passu glacier. Imagine, having seen the highest mountain ranges surrounded by you making a panorama of gigantic mountain glaciers. This is what makes Patundas one of the best treks in the Karakoram range to do.
Patundas is a pasture with a lush green plateau where the local villagers take their cattle in summer. It's also best for stargazing as you will be at an altitude of above 4500m.
How to reach Patundas?
Patundas is hardly two days trek from Hunza. You will have to cross Passu glacier and camp at Lazdhar, hike up to Patundas.
Is the trek to Patundas difficult?
The glacier crossing part of the trek is more technical. Some parts of the glacier have crevasses and are slippery. Make sure to carry trekking shoes with proper grip. You do not need crampons or an ice axe to cross the glacier.
What is the best time to visit Patundas?
The best time to visit Patundas is July and August when the temperature remains mild and the pasture gets lush green. However, the recommended time to visit Patundas is June to October.
What is the Temperature at Patondas?
Patundas is located at a hilltop of over 4500m surrounded by massive glaciers. So the temperature remains low. You need to carry warm clothes. Make sure to carry a raincoat if you wish to enjoy the rainy days also. Nights are super cold, particularly after late September. So make sure, you carry cold endurance suits if you are visiting any time else than July or August.
