Combine Laos with Cambodia. Explore the cultural capital of Laos, Luang Prabang, and then marvel at the gigantic temples of Angkor in Cambodia. A beach vacation on the island of Koh Rong rounds off the trip. The return flight home is from Phnom Penh.
Combination trip Laos and Cambodia with beach vacation on Koh Rong On this trip, you combine the cultural and scenic richness of Laos with the stunning Khmer temples in Cambodia and a final beach vacation on the white sandy beaches of Koh Rong. You start in Luang Prabang in northern Laos, whose old town has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A visit to the picturesque Kuang Si waterfalls and a boat trip on the Mekong to the famous Pak Ou caves are also on the program. A short flight then takes you to the city of Siem Reap in Cambodia. The huge temple complex of Angkor is located just outside the city gates and during your 5-day stay you will have plenty of opportunity to explore these impressive examples of Khmer art and take a detour to the floating villages of Tonle Sap Lake. To process the many exciting impressions, a relaxing beach vacation on the white sandy beaches of Koh Rong Island awaits you afterwards. Finally, you will travel to the capital Phnom Penh. From there you fly back home. You will cross the distances between the individual regions by plane, and the tour is guaranteed for groups of 2 or more. The maximum group size is 10 people.

Welcome to Luang Prabang - An ancient royal city
Your driver and tour guide will be waiting for you at the airport and will take you comfortably to your hotel in the city center of Luang Prabang.

Once at the hotel, you are free to choose how to spend the rest of the day. Treat yourself to a massage after the long flight or go on a first exploration tour through the narrow streets of the old town. Spend your first night in the ancient city of Luang Prabang.

Day 2
The UNESCO World Heritage Site Luang Prabang - Pak Ou Cave (F)
Start your day with a guided tour to the Royal Palace Museum (Haw Kham), which is now the National Museum. It houses many religious and cultural treasures, including the royal throne of the Lane Xang Kingdom in its original splendor, and preserves a part of daily royal life until 1975.
Transfer to the jetty to board the traditional longtail boat and start your cruise along the impressive Mekong River. The main destination is the Pak Ou Caves. The caves, locally called Tam Ting, are filled with thousands of Buddha statues in a variety of sizes. As you head upstream, you can watch the locals fishing and listen to the happy laughter of children splashing in the water.
Stop along the way to visit Ban Xang Hai, a unique little village on the banks of the Mekong River, famous for its handicraft products such as distilling and selling whisky, hand-woven fabrics and jewelry.
Return to town where you will continue to visit the magnificent Wat Xiengthong, an outstanding piece of Lao temple architecture that features a curved two-story roof and elaborate mosaics, including a beautiful 'tree of life' glass montage on the rear temple wall. This 15th century wat is the most important in Luang Prabang and one of the most important in the country. Until the 1975 revolution, Wat Xieng Thong was a royal temple supported by the royal family. In the 1960s, Wat Xieng Thong was completely rebuilt and redecorated and became the magnificent temple we see today.
Walk to Wat Mai ("New Monastery"), which was built in 1796. It was given its current name after restoration by King Manthathourat in 1821. The most striking feature of the temple is the gilded relief panels that cover the front façade. The panels tell the story of Vessentara, the supreme incarnation of the Buddha. The gilded door frames merge with the relief panel and form a monolithic wall of gold.
The rest of the evening is at your leisure. Towards the evening, the Talat night market (Hmong Market) is on your program.

Day 3
Kuang Si Waterfalls & Around Luang Prabang (F)
Continue through the countryside of Luang Prabang to the Kuang Si waterfalls. Upon reaching the waterfall, enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings or explore the dense jungle on foot. For the more adventurous, it is possible to walk along a steep path to the top of the falls, where a beautiful view awaits you. These waterfalls cascade down a multi-level limestone formation and form a series of turquoise blue pools, perfect for a swim on a hot day.
There is also the option to hike to the nearby village of Ban Thapene and explore the hidden waterfalls, which are rarely visited by other people.
If you wish, you can also pay a quick visit to the Bear Rescue Center, which is home to a few dozen animals rescued from the hands of poachers and traffickers.
On the way back to Luang Prabang, stop at Ock Pop Tok, which is set in a tropical Mekong garden and opens its doors to you to learn more about Lao textiles and handicrafts. The Living Craft Center (LCC) brings the concept of "East meets West" to life and is a place where you can meet silk weavers, artisans and silkworms and learn about textiles.
You will have the opportunity to visit the traditional art and ethnology center to learn more about the many ethnic cultures of Laos. From there, you will be taken to Wat Prabath to admire the sunset.

Wake up at sunrise and prepare to partake in Laos' most sacred tradition, the daily morning alms offering, which dates back to the 14th century. More than 200 Buddhist monks leave various temples to collect their daily meals from the faithful residents who sit quietly on the streets.

In the late afternoon, take part in a private Baci ceremony with a local family. As a traditional ritual of the Lao people, the Baci ceremony expresses the spirituality of the country and is an unforgettable experience for the participants and a deep insight into Lao culture. Afterwards, you will be served dinner to share with your host family. This is the best opportunity for you to get a first impression of local life and culture.

Day 5
Exploring the temples of Angkor (F)
This morning we visit the legendary Angkor Wat. Inside the temple, the walls are covered with stone carvings and bas-reliefs depicting Hindu mythology and the wars waged by Suryavarman II during his reign. Angkor Wat is famous for the more than 2,000 Apsara dancers that adorn the temple.

In the afternoon we visit the ancient city of Angkor Thom, the last capital of the Great Khmer Empire under the reign of Jayavarman VII. This city is surrounded by an 8 m high wall that draws a perfect square. Enter the city through the old South Gate, an impressive stone gate with elephants and four giant faces. On each side of the entrance path, a row of 54 gods or demons hold the sacred Naga snake.
We continue to the famous Ta Prohm temple, which was built in the mid-12th to early 13th century. Ta Prohm is unique in that it has been left largely as it was found: overgrown with jungle trees and vines, with many parts of the temple razed to the ground.
The evening is at your leisure. For example, visit the local Pup Street, which has several bars, discos and restaurants.

Balloon ride over the temple landscapes of Angkor
Enjoy an exciting balloon ride over the ruins of the temple complexes. From above you have an ideal view of the imposing temple area and the many rice fields and small villages in the surrounding area (except the main temple Angkor Wat).

Day 6
The "women's temple" Bantey Srey, village encounters and monk blessing (F)
This morning we drive to a suburb of Siem Reap and visit the "jewel" of the Angkor region, the beautiful temple of Banteay Srey. The so-called "Citadel of Women" is the best preserved temple in Cambodia to this day. It displays some of the finest examples of classical Khmer art, as this small temple is known for its truly remarkable fine bas-reliefs. Banteay Srey is unique in that it is built of pink sandstone, which is not seen anywhere else in Angkor.
Lunch at a local restaurant (own account).
In the afternoon you will be taken on a drive through the lush countryside to a local village, a beautiful little farming village where life revolves around the seasons and family, about 15 minutes outside Siem Reap. Here you will be taken on a tour of the village and the local community, learning about their simple way of life, meeting locals and probably wanting to chat with them or help grow vegetables in the gardens. You will be greeted by children who will say hello to you. The village guide will explain Cambodian daily life, cultures and superstitions. Then we also stop at a local pagoda for an intimate monk's blessing (water blessing) and wish you good health and a safe journey - a very special experience!
This is a wonderful village tour that offers many photo opportunities and local experiences. Enjoy seasonal fruits and fresh coconut juice at a homestay before we say goodbye.
*** Note: Today we recommend you have appropriate clothing if you wish to attend the monk blessing at the local temple.
We end the day with a beautiful view of the sunset from the Sra Srang water reservoir. Once the sun has set, we drive back to the city. In the evening you have time for yourself.

Day 7
Boat trip on Tonle Sap Lake (Kampong Phluk) (F)
This morning, you will take an interesting boat trip on Tonle Sap Lake (Kampong Phluk area), where you will have the opportunity to learn about life on the lake. Tonle Sap is Southeast Asia's largest freshwater lake, which varies greatly in size depending on the season, as it swells to about four times its size during the rainy season.
Hop on a local boat and visit Kampong Phluck, a village where you will see houses on stilts that are submerged when the lake's water level swells. On the way, you will pass floating houses and impressive flooded forests that depict life on the water.
*** Please note: In the dry season, it is possible that the visit to Kampong Phluk will be replaced by a visit to Chong Knea, another part of the Tonle Sap.
Return to the hotel with a stopover for a foot massage.

Day 13
City tour Phnom Penh with romantic boat trip (B)
First, go to the temple Wat Phnom, the city's founding site on a small hill. Continue along the riverside to the Royal Palace. This palace dates back to 1866 and is home to the Silver Pagoda, named after the over 5,000 heavy silver tiles that cover its floors. Its original name is Wat Prakeo, which means 'Temple of the Emerald Buddha'. See a collection of gold, silver, crystal and bronze Buddhas in this temple.
The next stop is the National Museum, built in the traditional Khmer style, which is considered to house the world's most important collection of ancient Khmer artistic, archaeological and religious artifacts from the 4th to 13th centuries. Over 5,000 exhibits are on display and form a collection of the kingdom's cultural wealth. In addition, the attic room is home to a large colony of bats!
A visit to the Toul Sleng Genocide Museum - formerly a school and a prison during the Pol Pot regime - will give you an insight into Cambodia's history during the Khmer Rouge's period of horror.
In the late afternoon, enjoy an atmospheric sunset river cruise and watch Phnom Penh's popular riverside come to life in the early evening. Enjoy fresh coconut juice on board. After the cruise, we'll head to Phnom Penh's riverside, a pleasant French-style promenade that's great for people-watching. Early evening (and morning) activities include fitness classes, Khmer dancing and plenty of snacks of local dishes. From here you can either be transferred back to your hotel or explore this bustling area on your own and dine at one of the many great riverside restaurants.
