One of the most admired trekking trail by the travel enthusiast and trekkers; Langtang Valley Trekking is favored with picturesque landscapes and exquisite mountain outlooks. Also celebrated as the ‘ valley of glaciers trek’ because the trekking trail progresses across thriving woodlands of pine, rhododendron and oak, tranquil mountain streams, lush green slopes, stone-strewn terrain; extending the outlooks of snow-capped Himalayan peaks as a backdrop. The trekking trail is situated in Langtang Valley, the closest places from Kathmandu Valley where one could witness colossal snowy mountains and spectacular glaciers. At a distance of just 19 miles to the north of Kathmandu, Langtang Valley takes pride to be the first Himalayan national park and provides a safe haven to numerous species of alpine vegetations such as Fir, Hemlock, Chir, Maple etc. together with exquisite wildlife such as Red panda, Snow leopard, Himalayan Tahr and Musk deer. Legend explains that the valley was discovered when a person was searching his lost yak; thus it was named ‘Langtang’, which is derived from two Tibetan words, lang and tang that translates into yak and follow respectively. Overlooked by Mt. Langtang Lirung (7,246m), Langtang Valley flaunts tantalizing mountain panorama including Dorje Lakpa (6,966m), Morimoto (6,750m), Dragmarpo Ri (6,578m), Kimshung (6,500m), Langshisha Ri (6,427m), Ganchempo (6,387m), Naya Kanga (5,846m), Yala Peak (5,732m), Chyarkung Chuli (4,858m) and Cholangpati Danda (4,788m) and Surya Peak (5,144m), Tsergo Ri (4,982m), alongside the amazing Lauribinayak Pass (4,610m).
Langtang Valley is inhabited by the native Tamang communities. Inhabitants follow two sorts of religion i.e. Bon and Tibetan Buddhism or sometimes, a blend of both. Therefore, trek around the valley presents a detailed insight into the native culture, values, and traditions. Furthermore, trekkers also get a taste of gentle hospitality extended by good-natured locals. The actual trekking journey commences from Syabrubesi. From this point onwards, we pursue the leveled trail to Lama Hotel, which continues through rhododendron forest to alluring Langtang Village. We can observe Mani walls, Chortens, prayer flags, stone slab writings and Gompas en route. If lady luck smiled upon us, we may witness the elegant red panda. Gradually, we arrive at to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m). Along the way, we’ll be accompanied by prepossessing vistas comprising Mt. Ganchhenpo and Mt. Langtang Lirung. We’ll explore a beautiful monastery and local cheese factory in Kyanjin Gompa and set off for a hike to Tserko Ri (5,000m). At the elevation of 5,000m, we can enjoy the vistas featuring sublime glaciers and majestic mountains in close proximity. Subsequently, we trek back to Kyangjin Gompa then keep on with the trail beyond Lama Hotel, Syabrubesi and finally return to Kathmandu.
