Salkantay Trek & Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

• After breakfast, we begin our ascent toward Salkantaypampa, inching closer to the towering Salkantay Mountain (6,271 m / 20,574 ft), a revered peak symbolizing nature’s raw power. We continue to Pampa Japonesa (4,600 m / 15,091 ft), our campsite for the night, situated near the glacier. Here, you’ll experience the glacier’s icy surroundings, with the distant sound of avalanches adding to the dramatic atmosphere.

• Our trek continues toward the high pass of Incachiriaska (5,338 m / 17,513 ft), one of the trek’s most challenging yet rewarding moments. From here, we descend into a picturesque valley, where the trail becomes gentler. Along the way, we may spot majestic Andean Condors soaring above. After roughly 3 hours of descent, we reach our camp near the Canal Inca, where you’ll enjoy dinner under a breathtaking night sky.

• Today, we officially connect with the Inca Trail, starting with a visit to the Paucarcancha archaeological site. As we descend, the environment transitions to the lush Andean cloud forest, abundant with waterfalls, flora, and fauna. After lunch, we’ll continue to Ayapata (3,300 m / 10,827 ft), our campsite for the night, surrounded by stunning views of the Andes.

• After breakfast, we begin the ascent to the Warmiwañusqa Pass (4,200 m / 13,779 ft), also known as the "Dead Woman’s Pass." This challenging climb rewards us with spectacular views before descending back into a queuña forest filled with hummingbirds. After lunch at Pacamayo, we continue to Runkurakay (3,760 m / 12,150 ft), an ancient astrological temple, before reaching our campsite at Chaquicocha (3,400 m / 11,154 ft).

• Our trek continues through fascinating Inca sites, including Phuyupatamarca, a ceremonial site renowned for its impressive terraces and water channels. As we descend, the environment transforms, offering views of the Sacred Valley and Urubamba River. We reach Wiñaywayna (2,650 m / 8,692 ft), the "Forever Young Mountain," known for its stunning aqueducts, terraces, and temples.

• We rise early to hike to the Sun Gate (Intipunku), where you’ll witness the first rays of sunlight illuminating Machu Picchu, a truly magical experience. After taking in the views, we’ll explore the citadel during a guided tour, visiting its most important areas.
• After the visit, you’ll have time to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain (optional, with prior permits) or explore further on your own. In the afternoon, we’ll descend to Aguas Calientes for lunch before boarding the train back to Cusco, marking the end of this unforgettable trek.
