Day 1

Lençóis, Brazil

Airport Transfer and Walking Tour of Historic City Center

One of our representatives will be waiting for you at the airport to drive you to your accommodation. Later, we will walk around the city of Lençóis getting to know some of its history, its architecture with European influence and some curiosities of this friendly town, famous for diamond mining in the 19th century. We will see why in 1973, it was recognized by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN). Along the path, we’ll pass through the main houses of the time such as the home of Colonel Horacio de Matos and Floriano Peixoto, listening to curious facts as we cross the city along the Praça Horacio de Matos to the coreto of the city. We then walk passing the Rua das Pedras, the churches of Senhor do Passos and Rosário.

Day 2

Lençóis, Brazil

Full-Day Excursion to Poço Azul and Igatu(B/L)

We leave Lençóis in the morning on the way to Poço Azul, an impressive blue water pool inside a wide limestone cave. Inside, after a few steps, there’s a good comfortable platform to take pictures from the pool and get set for the snorkeling. On the way up we will have a delicious lunch. After lunch, our next stop is the charming village of Igatu, known as the City of Stones because of its peculiar architecture and the exclusive use of stones as building materials. This cozy village used to be a strong diamond mining area, that left many historical marks, such as the ruins that we will visit and the local art gallery, that has an interesting collection of old objects and tools from the mining period.

Day 3

Lençóis, Brazil

Full-Day Hike Mosquito Waterfall and Serra das Paridas (B/L)

Mosquito is an amazing 50m high waterfall, the name was given because the area used to be an old diamond mining place and “Mosquitoes” were actually the tiny diamonds found at that area, too small to be shaped. It is located at the end of a beautiful canion near Lençóis. We will leave in the morning toward a local farm, where the hike begins at the top of the falls. We will walk down through a trail from top to bottom (1.5km) where we’ll take a break for pictures, to rest and to enjoy a swim at the bottom. On the way back, we will enjoy a delicious home cooked lunch. In the afternoon, we will visit Serra das Paridas, an archaeological site surrounded by impressive ancient rock paintings. Then we return to Lençóis.
