Itinerary

Experience the spectacular wildlife of Manitoba with an adventure from the dense forests of Riding Mountain National Park to the colourful tundra of Churchill. The Frontiers North Big Five Safari is a nod to the incredible array of megafauna that populate the forests, tundra and rivers of this beautiful province.

Our journey begins in Winnipeg, the geographic center of North America. We travel over-land to Riding Mountain National Park where the bold boreal forest, expanses of meadows and lakes, lofty heights and deep gorges of the Manitoba Escarpment are home to moose, black bears, a captive bison herd and more.

From there our adventure takes us to Churchill where the boreal forest gives way to the rugged and barren tundra and where we will set out in search of mighty polar bear and beluga whales.

Deposit and mandatory insurance policy

A non-refundable deposit of $750 CAD per person is due at time of booking. Reservations must be accompanied by the guests' full names.

For travellers who book any 2021 or later Frontiers North package tour with initial deposit on or after June 1, 2020, comprehensive travel insurance coverage is mandatory, including without limitation medical, emergency evacuation, trip cancellation and interruption insurance. It is the responsibility of the traveller to secure adequate insurance coverage for the level of protection they desire. Additional expenses or losses sustained by the traveller as a result of the traveller failing to obtain proper insurance coverage shall be the sole responsibility of the traveller; Frontiers North will not be held responsible for missed connections, incorrect check-in times, improper documentation and/or lost, stolen or damaged luggage. We strongly encourage travellers to purchase a trip insurance package through their provider of choice at time of booking to maximize individual insurance benefits.

Evidence of insurance policy documentation will be required no later than at time of full payment, 120 days prior to departure.

True North Assurance

In the event that after booking the guest is no longer able to travel with Frontiers North Inc., the guest may, at any time up to the date that is 121 days before their scheduled departure date, request in writing a transfer of the full amount of the original deposit to a future Frontiers North Inc.-operated departure, subject to availability, or request in writing that the original deposit be kept on file for an unlimited time as a True North Deposit for future use on any Frontiers North Inc.-operated tour. If the guest would like to transfer or gift their True North Deposit to another person, provided that the transferee meets the requirements of travel and is at least 18 years of age, such a transfer or gift will also be permitted at no charge. If no written request is made by the guest or agent/wholesaler on or prior to the date that is 121 days before the scheduled departure date, the cancellation policy will apply as set out below. This applies to all active Frontiers North Inc. bookings with initial deposit paid on or after Oct. 1, 2021.

The True North Deposit has no cash value and is valid on new bookings only. True North Deposits may not be combined with any other offer or promotion. Only one True North Deposit may be applied per guest per booking. If the value of the True North Deposit exceeds the total value of the per person price of the new booking, the unused portion of the True North Deposit shall be forfeited.

Age Requirements for Multi-day Adventures

Our Multiday Trips have a minimum age requirement of 8 years, which is essential to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants. This mandatory age limit reflects the nature of these excursions, which involve extended durations, a steady pace, and deep engagement with the environment. These journeys provide unparalleled opportunities to immerse yourself in breathtaking northern landscapes and observe unique wildlife—experiences that older children and teens are especially well-suited to fully appreciate.

Please Consider:

Extended Duration and Remote Environment: Multiday Trips require endurance and adaptability as they involve consecutive days in remote, rugged landscapes. The challenges of the northern climate, combined with the physical requirements of extended travel, make these tours best suited for travellers aged 12 and older.

In-Depth Learning Opportunities: These trips are designed to offer a deeper understanding of the ecosystem, wildlife behaviours, and local culture. Older children and teens are typically more equipped to engage with the educational aspects, which enrich the experience and allow for meaningful interaction with guides and experts.

Mature Group Setting: Multiday excursions often involve small-group interactions, enhancing camaraderie and shared learning experience. Participants aged 12 and up are better able to engage respectfully and contribute to a group setting, ensuring that all travellers can fully enjoy the immersive experience.

Families with Younger Explorers:

For children travelling between the ages of 8-12, we highly recommend our Family Learning Adventures, designed specifically for families seeking a combination of adventure, cultural discovery, and bonding in the Canadian North. These adventures are crafted for children aged 8 and up, balancing outdoor activities and educational elements to create unforgettable experiences suitable for all adventurers.

We ask that all participants on Multiday Trips and Family Learning Adventures observe our key safety and environmental policies:

Quiet Observation During Wildlife Encounters: Wildlife sightings are often best enjoyed in silence to avoid disturbances. We request that all guests practice quiet observation to enhance the experience and show respect to the wildlife.

Leave No Trace: Please refrain from littering and use designated waste receptacles provided by guides. Protecting these pristine areas is a top priority, and we appreciate all guests' commitment to responsible travel.

Single supplement

Tour prices are based on double occupancy. If you are travelling alone and would like us to arrange a suitable roommate for you on the trip, we will make every effort to do so. If a roommate is not available, or you wish single accommodations (where available), we must charge a Single Supplement that reflects additional costs we incur for a singly occupied room. Please contact an Adventure Planner for further details.

Cancellation and refund policy

This applies to all package tours, unless otherwise noted. In the event that you must cancel your reservation, refunds will be made according to the following schedule:

Booking – 121 days prior to departure: $750 CAD per person, non-refundable True North Deposit

120 – 61 days prior to departure: 50% of total invoice, non-refundable

60 – 0 days prior to departure: 100% of total invoice, non-refundable

No partial refunds or credits will be given for services not used.

As many advance logistical arrangements have been made prior to the operation of these trips, we must adhere to the cancellation policies.

The guest or agent/wholesaler is responsible for advising of cancelled space requests and for relaying accurate guest arrival information and special requests for the guest in a timely manner. The guest or agent/wholesaler is also responsible for having the guest complete the Frontiers North Adventures Tour Registration and Waiver Forms and for having these forms submitted to our office in a timely manner.

Rates are subject to change and if necessary, these changes will be passed on to you and your guests.

FLIGHT CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY

The following applies to all tour bookings that include flights organized by Frontiers North Inc.  Unless your booking specifies travel to Churchill, Manitoba as being included, it is excluded and you are responsible to make arrangements to arrive in Churchill, at your own cost, prior to commencement of the tour.

You acknowledge that flights are provided through a third-party airline and are not provided by Frontiers North Inc. directly.  Frontiers North Inc. shall not be liable or responsible for any flight cancellation by the airline, or for any disruption or delays in the flight schedule.  In the event your departing flight is cancelled by the airline, Frontiers North Inc. shall either work with you to reschedule, or will cancel your booking and issue you a refund, at the option of Frontiers North Inc.

Frontiers North Inc. reserves the right to cancel any booking in the rare event of insufficient enrollment.  In that event, booked guests will be notified no later than thirty (30) days prior to the booking start date and a refund of any payments made by you to Frontiers North Inc. will be issued.

FORCE MAJEURE

A “Force Majeure Event” is any act that is beyond the control of Frontiers North Inc. including, without limitation, acts of God, labour disputes, strikes, lockouts, the inability of a third party (such as an airline or rail carrier) to provide services, fires, war, national emergency, storms, floods, inclement weather conditions, mechanical breakdowns, fuel shortages, pandemics, or orders of any governmental body that result in an interruption, delay or cancellation of your booking.

Frontiers North Inc. shall have no liability to you in the event of a Force Majeure Event, except that, if there is a Force Majeure Event that results in the cancellation of your booking prior to its commencement, Frontiers North Inc. will either work with you to reschedule, or will issue you a refund, at the option of Frontiers North Inc.  Other than as expressly set out in this paragraph, Frontiers North Inc. will have no liability to you if there is a Force Majeure Event. For greater certainty, under no circumstances will Frontiers North Inc. be responsible for additional expenses or arrangements incurred by you, including accommodation, transportation, travel visas and/or vaccinations.
