Starting in Tashkent and ending in magnificent Samarkand, discover the culture, history and the present day life of the ancient Silk Road cities with this fourteen days odyssey to the heart of the Silk Road. You will also try the nomadic lifestyle staying an overnight in the traditional desert Yurt Camp and enjoy the overwhelming hospitality of mountain farmers during your stay in an authentic Nuratau Mountain village.

At 9:00 AM, begin your city tour of Tashkent, starting with Independence Square and the History Museum. Continue to the Khast Imam Complex, which houses the world’s oldest known Quran. Next, take a ride on the Tashkent Metro, famous for its beautifully designed stations, to reach the bustling Chorsu Bazaar. Nearby, visit the 16th-century Kukaldosh Madrasa and the 15th-century Juma Mosque, both important historical landmarks.
Tashkent-Khiva
An early flight from Tashkent takes you to Urgench (1hour 40 min), followed by a 30-minute drive to Khiva. Once a key Silk Road trading hub and the capital of the Khiva Khanate, Khiva is now a well-preserved ancient city. After breakfast at the hotel, begin exploring Ichon-Qala, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with stops at Mohammed Amin Khan Madrasa, Kalta Minor, Kuhna-Ark, Juma Mosque, Tosh-Hovli Palace, Pahlavon Mahmud Mausoleum, and more. After the tour, enjoy a free afternoon to explore this magical town.
Around Khiva
After breakfast, take a full-day trip to the ancient fortresses of Karakalpakstan. Built over 2,000 years ago to defend against nomadic invasions, these fortresses are located near the Sultan Uiz Dag Mountains. Travel 100 km from Khiva to visit Toprak Qala, a 2nd-century fortress with temples and gardens. Explore the nearby Kizil Qala, possibly an army base, and Ayaz Qala, a stunning fortress complex overlooking the desert and Ayaz Lake. Enjoy lunch at the Ayaz Qala yurt camp, then visit Jonbos Qala before returning to Khiva.
Khiva - Bukhara
Today, we journey 6 hours (480 km) to Bukhara through the Kyzyl-Kum desert, home to nomadic people, shepherds' huts, and camel herds. The route follows the Amu Darya River. We’ll make several stops to break up the trip. On arrival, enjoy a free afternoon exploring Bukhara’s bustling trading domes filled with crafts and spices, or relax with tea by the Lyabi-Hauz pool under ancient mulberry trees.
Bukhara
With over a hundred unique monuments, Bukhara is known as the “Bastion of Islam” and Central Asia's holiest city. Spend two days here, with the first day dedicated to sightseeing and the second featuring a half-day tour followed by a free afternoon. Highlights include Lyabi-Hauz, the Maghoki-Attar Mosque, Nadir Divanbegi Madrasa, the Kalon Ensemble with its 47-meter “Tower of Death” minaret, the operational Mir-i-Arab Madrasa, and the ancient Ark Fortress. You will also visit the Ismail Samani and Chashma Ayub Mausoleums. The evening is free to explore Bukhara at your leisure.
Around Bukhara
Begin the day at Sitorai Mohi Hosa, the summer palace of the last emir, showcasing a blend of Russian and local designs. Continue to the Kasri Orifon village, stopping at the Chor-Bakr necropolis. Visit the Bakhautdin Naqshband complex, a significant Sufi pilgrimage site featuring mosques, a minaret, and the mausoleum. Return to Bukhara for a free afternoon to explore artisan shops, wander narrow streets, or enjoy a puppet show (min.10 pax) in an old caravanserai or a medieval Hammam.
Bukhara - Nurata - Yurt Camp
After breakfast, travel east from Bukhara to Nurata, stopping en route in Gijduvan, a town known for its traditional ceramics. Visit a local workshop to learn about the ceramics production process, and browse its museum and souvenir shop. After this short stop, continue the drive to Nurata (160 km). Nurata is steeped in history, with origins tied to Alexander the Great's fortress and the holy Chashma Spring. After lunch in a traditional house, explore the 9th-century mausoleum, mosque, and fortress ruins before heading to the Desert Yurt Camp (65 km). Spend the night in a traditional yurt, with separate washing and toilet facilities.
In the late afternoon, enjoy a camel ride, explore the nearby dunes, or visit the Kazakh village of Dungalak. Relax and take in the desert sunset before dinner at the camp.
Yurt Camp - Nuratau Mountains
Today travel via Lake Aydarkul to a village in the Nuratau Mountains, home to the endangered Severtzov’s wild sheep, protected within the Nuratau Nature Reserve.
The journey offers stunning mountain views and a glimpse into the daily lives of local farmers. Arrive at the homestay in Hayat village, where the host will introduce the facilities. Accommodation includes traditional shared rooms with thick mattresses, a separate ablution block, and a shady garden with a river. After lunch with the family, explore the village, visiting the mosque, school, and shop, while meeting the friendly locals. In the evening, help prepare or observe the preparation of the traditional dish 'Plov,' made with fresh, home-grown ingredients. Dinner and overnight at the homestay.
Nuratau Mountains
After breakfast, take a guided walk to the Nature Reserve to see the breeding enclosure for the endangered Severtzov’s sheep, with 95% of its global population in the Nuratau Mountains. Along the valley, view abandoned houses from the 1950s resettlement by the Soviet government. On the return, visit the local elementary school. After lunch, relax at the homestay. Dinner and overnight at the homestay.
Nuratau Mountains - Samarkand
Early risers can enjoy sunrise from the hill or observe the host family’s morning chores. After breakfast, depart the Nuratau Mountains and drive to Samarkand, a historic Silk Road city that flourished as the capital of Timur’s empire. Arrive by lunchtime and check in to your hotel. In the afternoon, begin a guided tour with a visit to the Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum, the final resting place of Timur and his descendants. Then, proceed to Samarkand’s most iconic site, Registan Square, featuring three magnificent madrasas from the 15th to 17th centuries: Ulugbek Madrasa, Sher-Dor Madrasa, and Tilla-Kari Madrasa. End the day with a visit to the Bibi-Khanum Mosque, an architectural marvel built by Timur’s wife, and explore the nearby bustling Siyob Bazaar, a hub of local culture and vibrant trade.
Samarkand - Shakhrisabz - Samarkand
After breakfast, take a scenic drive to Shakhrisabz, the birthplace of Timur and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Start your tour at the remnants of the Ak-Saray Palace, Timur’s grand summer residence. Continue to the Dorut Tilavat Memorial Complex, featuring the Kok Gumbaz Mosque and the Mausoleum of Sheikh Shamsuddin Kulal. Explore the Dorus Saodat burial complex, the final resting place of Timur’s family members. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and some free time to stroll through the historic streets before returning to Samarkand in the late afternoon.
Samarkand - Tashkent
After breakfast, continue your Samarkand tour with visits to the Shah-i-Zinda necropolis, the Afrosiab Museum, and Ulugbek’s Observatory. Begin with the stunning Shah-i-Zinda necropolis, where Qusam ibn-Abbas, a cousin of the Prophet Muhammad, is buried. Then, visit the Afrosiab Museum to explore Samarkand's ancient history and Ulugbek’s Observatory, a testament to Timur’s grandson's astronomical brilliance. If time permits, visit Konigil village to observe the traditional production of famous silk paper. In the late afternoon, take the train to Tashkent and settle into your hotel.

Booking Terms and Conditions
Overview
All tours are operated by Responsible Travel LLC (License № T-0312-14) (us/we). By booking a trip with us you are deemed to have agreed to these Booking Conditions (which constitutes the entire agreement between you and us) and your booking will be accepted by us on this basis. In these Booking Conditions references to "you” and "your” include the first named person on the booking and all persons on whose behalf a booking is made. Please take the time to read and understand the conditions of booking set out below prior to booking a trip with us.
1. DEPOSITS & FINAL PAYMENT
You are required to pay 20% non-refundable deposit (but not less than $100) per person/group per trip for your booking to be confirmed. Payment of the balance of the trip price is due 60 days before the departure date. If this balance is not paid on or before the due date we reserve the right to treat your booking as cancelled. Full payment is due at the time of booking if the booking is made 60 days or less prior to departure. We might provide (operate) certain products or services without deposit payment (paid on departure date), we will advise you of any such conditions prior to confirmation of the applicable booking.
2. BOOKING
Your booking is confirmed and a contract exists when we issues a written confirmation after receipt of the applicable deposit amount. The client confirming the booking must be 18 years of age and above at the time of booking.
3. CANCELLATION BY TRAVELLER
If you cancel some or all portions of your booking cancellation fees will apply. A cancellation will only be effective when we receive written confirmation of the cancellation.
If you cancel a trip:
• 60 days or more prior to departure, we will retain the deposit;
• Between 31 and 59 days prior to departure, we will retain the deposit or 35% of the total booking cost; whichever is greater;
• Between 14 and 30 days prior to departure, we will retain the deposit or 50% of the total booking cost; whichever is greater;
• Between 7 and 13 days prior to departure, we will retain the deposit or 80% of the total booking cost; whichever is greater, and
• 6 days or less prior to departure, we will retain 100% paid by you in connection with the booking.
If you leave a trip for any reason after it has commenced we are not obliged to make any refunds for unused services. If you fail to join a tour, join it after departure, or leave it prior to its completion, no refund will be made.
4. CANCELLATION BY US
We may cancel a trip at any time up to 60 days before departure, in this case we will refund in full the amount you paid for the trip. We may cancel a trip at any time prior to departure if, due to terrorism, natural disasters, political instability or other external events it is not viable for us to operate the planned itinerary. If we cancel your trip, you can transfer amounts paid to an alternate departure date or receive a full refund. In circumstances where the cancellation is due to external events outside our reasonable control refunds will be less any unrecoverable costs. We are not responsible for any incidental expenses that you may have incurred as a result of your booking including but not limited to visas, vaccinations, travel insurance excess or non-refundable flights.
5. CHANGE OF THE ITINERARY
We do our best to operate all trips as described but also reserve the right to make changes in the itinerary. We will offer refund for the changed portion of the itinerary or offer alternative tour if the change is initiated by us. The itinerary can also be changed due to circumstances or events outside of our control. In such emergency circumstances the additional cost of any necessary itinerary alterations will be covered by you.
6. TRAVEL INSURANCE
Travel insurance is mandatory for all our travellers and should be taken out at the time of travel. We are not responsible for unforeseen circumstances such as flight or train delays or cancellations; the failure of embassies or consulates to issue visas; the inaccessibility of certain tourist attractions due to the actions of government bodies; the actions or services of accommodation and other facilities visited during the tour; or incidents such as injury, illness, or loss of personal belongings.
If you do not have travel insurance at the beginning of the tour, please inform us and we will arrange coverage with a local insurance company for an additional fee.
7. PRICE
Tours are priced and advertised inclusive of applicable taxes. We reserve the right to increase the cost of the tours/services on the following conditions:
• new taxes imposed by government
• currency fluctuations
• increase in fuel surcharges
The increase on the cots are only possible before full payment is done, we will not increase the price of your tour/service after you have paid in full.
8. PHOTOS AND MARKETING
You consent to us using images of you taken during the trip for advertising and promotional purposes in any medium we choose. You grant us a perpetual, royalty-free, worldwide, irrevocable licence to use such images for publicity and promotional purposes.
9. APPLICABLE LAW
The laws of Republic of Uzbekistan govern these Booking Conditions to the fullest extent allowable. Any disputes in connection with a trip or these Booking Conditions must be initiated in the courts of Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan
